Rice getting second chance?

wow interesting that he is being considered. I doubt he gets it though. I have always thought that Rice will get back in the college coaching ranks by being an assistant first so people get used to the idea of him on the sideline without freaking out. But not totally surprised, the guy knows his coaching and everyone deserves a second chance

Let those without sin cast the first stone. (er..Basketball)
Good luck. Everyone does deserve a second chance (save murderers and terrorists and folks who text while driving and cause an accident :cop:)

Someone will take chance on him, not sure it is Quinnipiac or not. He deserves a second chance and is a very good coach. I still say the only difference between him and many other coaches is that he was caught on video.
If there is one thing people should learn from the two Rices is that video is everything. You can get away with ALOT, as long as there is no video. But once there is, expect it to get played over and over again until you are about as low as you can get.

He deserved to go when he was sent packing (actually a few months earlier when SOMEBODY saw that video).

He deserves another chance now. Best of luck to him.

I have always been convinced that Coach Rice was the product of all the tough coaches who came before him who learned back from a chain of coaches leading back to WWII era boot camp graduates.

That's when "hazing" became popular on college campuses.. as most of the nation's men got "hazed" in boot camps during WWII and with the GI Bill they headed off to colleges.. and fraternities and sports teams. The majority of the male population had that in common... and if the later generations sons didn't join the military.. the fathers probably instilled some boot-camp-like discipline at home.

Over the decades this kind of thing has become more and more rare.. and now "tough" coaching.. even physically abusive coaching.. is seen as a crime. As is "spanking".

I think Mike Rice was "fixed" by that timeout and forced counselling and $50,000 fine Pernetti gave him. That we got rid of him AFTER we "fixed" him.. damn shame. But probably the only thing that could be done.

He should get another chance.

They could do worse

that's good question.

Now , about Mike Rice:
I think he should have been fired when video ca me out , only if Barchi took the time to look at it.
Once Pernetti disciplined Rice and it was over, termination should have been off the table.
Mike Rice deserves another chance, he failed by today's standers by running his RU practices more like yesterdays standards were run.
Slice is an interesting candidate from a recruiting standpoint.
But as a HC his time as Manhattan's HC wasn't a winning one and around 6 years later seems like a long time to get back in the HC hunt.
But his time at St Johns might have made him decide he wanted to be the one in charge again.

agree

Slice would be better off staying as an assistant, I do not know what kind of job Quinnipiac or the challenges they face but it could be a career ender for him. Some guys like Fred Hill are better off as the sidekicks

There are also whispers of some more prominent programs having serious interest in Rice as an assistant coach. His connection to some high profile Patrick School players is very attractive to various programs.
