Ron Harper Jr.

I personally want to see him keeping shooting them. He was a damnnnn good 3 point shooter in high school, if he finds his shot were a different team. If he was even shooting 30% from 3 were a totally different team and hes playing 25 mins a game
30% would be fantastic. Esp in comparison to his current 12% clip (4 for 31). It's ugly dude.

Outside of his outside shot not falling hes been a plus player. Always in the right position, good handle, plays solid D, boxs out, passes well. Once that shot starts falling we are a different team. Hes also shooting like 59% inside the arc

RU doesn't just miss shots, these misses are ugly - over the rim by a foot, to the left by 6 inches, off the back the rim or backboard. And Harper is the worst offender. I don't think it's just going to start falling - needs to do something with his mechanics I assume.

Sometimes it’s as simple as having fun again. You cant be tight when you shoot, gotta be loose. When my shot is off personally, I just keep playing and putting up shots. When it starts falling, you start realizing what youre doing differently. I know this is very unconventional but I actually think if he played some pick up ball over this next week between now and Maine he could find his shot. Hes in a funk, hes a great shooter, just gotta shoot more. When he was at his best in high school, it was aau when he was playing 6 games a weekend. Its one of those things when you find your shot no one can tell you nothin

sorry I dont, he needs to be reined in and his poor shooting is hurting the team right now

Think his D has been poor. Gets beat.

He had a terrific defensive possession today where a kid eventually got past him at a poor angle and one of our bigs didnt step up to alter the shot and kid made a tough bank kinda layup. Hes been fine on D

Harper is a great player and I’m confident his shoot will start to click. He has good numbers against good competition in HS.

And this RU team is COMPLETELY different and improved if Harper gets his threes to a 30%+ clip.

I'd prefer to see Harper shoot 10-12 footers and or drive to the basket. Once he settles in with the mid range shots then shoot the tray more consistently. What I see so far from Harper is that he is rushing his 3 pointers

I have been to 9 practices so far. Harper hits like 4 or 5 threes in a row in practice from the corner. In games it is totally different. It must be in his head. He is a good 3 point shooter and had many huge games shooting threes at Don Bosco. He must relax. Hopefully he will start to hit them real soon.

Sample size is now 11. The reality is if he can't knock down shots he can't help us right now. If he doesn't have a green light to shoot perimeter shots at this point in his career he isnt good enough to play.

Personally I want him on the court and taking uncontested 3s. I find it tough to believe he wont turn it around.

Issa hits 3's in practices too. Meaningless. Harper and Mathis need to focus on everything but 3 point shots the rest of the season.

If we hadn’t heard that for 4 years with Mike Williams...not giving up on Harper as a deep threat in the future, but he has not inspired confidence.

I could never figure why he stayed home and went to RU now I know, nobody else wanted him.
Clueless - the kid's going to be a very good player for us - and he was a very good 3 point shooter in high school, and guess what - it's the same distance.

I know it's less than 2 months into elite basketball at the highest league in college hoops. There's a large jump from playing overweight a bit at Don Bosco and trying to play your way into shape, weight lifting, running and catching up to the speed of the game.

Kyk is right overall....Harper's other aspect of his game are better than expected...his BB IQ is better and when his conditioning truly catches up with his game, his shooting will improve.

There are hundreds of freshman that are playing at Harper's pace and shooting poorly from 3. Harper will be fine. Players that play to their rankings 10 to 15 games into their careers, are usually Top 40 -50 players or nationally.

He has a strong basketball IQ - something we always yearn for in players. He was probably the only other player bedsides Geo who I trusted to take the ball up (before Caleb’s showing yesterday). He does a lot else “right” and for a freshman. Also his mid-range jumper is really good, let him hit some more of those and work his way back, once he hits just a single 3 it’s game on I think

All 3 freshman are now showing signs of being good players. Let them play and learn this year. We are going to need contributions from all 3 in the future. If we have a team full of Macconnels and Mathises and harpers, we’ll be a good team.

Love Harper’s game and always feel confident when he’s on the court for us.

Lots of theories as to why he knocks down midrange jumpers but airballs his threes. I’ll add a theory: maybe he needs glasses?

Harper and Mathis both look like the game hasn’t slowed down yet offensively. At the same time, I think both have grown tremendously on the defensive side of things. I think both are going to be defensive studs. I’m hopeful the game starts to feel a bit more natural offensively by the end of the year.

The kid is a very smart basketball player. He understands the game. Also an excellent shooter in HS. As soon as he settles down his shooting will be fine.

Thank you Hawk! Harper has flashed skills. The first game this year my reaction when I saw him was: "this young man has a high school body." He needs to lean out and get stronger and he will pop.
