The 1969 Tournament of Roses Parade was a phenomenal experience, though an exhausting one - it's a long route. We were told that it was 7 miles long and we were a high-stepping band back then.
We left the UCLA dorm where all the bands were staying at 4:00 a.m. for the drive to Pasadena. And that was after welcoming in the New Year in all four time zones in the Lower 48 states. Our invitation to participate in the parade that year was to kick off the year-long observance of the centennial of college football.
Congratulations to this year's RU band! I hope they had a great experience in one of the greatest parades in the country and they all remember it 50 years from now like I remember marching in the Tournament of Roses parade.
