What else would a professor say?
I'm sure he is, but the facts are the facts.Huh. Guy is a douche, but have to agree with just about everything in that article.
What is he wrong about?
RU is dead last in fundraising in the conference. RU is also tops in school subsidies.
I never thought I would agree with anything that Killingsworth has to say, but this piece is spot on. The necessary increase in funding for athletics must come from donors, not the universityI didn't say he was wrong. That's what you'd expect him to say
Key info in the article - most fans of other B1G school donate $30-35m to the sports programs, but RU giving is only $8m. To be a serious player in the B1G, this gap has to close.
I'm stunned. That was a perfect opinion piece.
[laughing][thumb2]this motivates me to setup another fund and spend every spare minute trying to raise funds.
get over yourselfYes, the problem is you - the 150 or so caustic, disrespectful posters on this board that shape the impression that RU athletics are a joke or worse. I never post what I really think about players and coaches performing badly because I know that would only make me fell better short term, but hurt the school long term. Besides, it happens all the time. Pointing out a flaw in sports does not make you astute or a sophisticated observer. And no, your embarrassing, dumb ass, cheap skate financial strategies will not do it. The joke impression you people create is what keeps the larger population from getting behind the school. You are the fuel that the Negative media survives on.You would all have to bite your tounges and say something positive or nothing at all when things get tough. Nick-naming Flood Fudd does nothing, really.
Yeah, but OSU could raise $8MM in 2 minutes without making a phone call or any other public appeal, as their boosters would be calling the AD to make the coaching change happen. Article was spot on.We raised 8k in 2 days for a fire flood...they took it down because they didnt want to be attached to that movement with the coach under contract and still coaching games...what i think is we should have kept it up and just changed the title and say we r raising funds for Rutgers Football... Let it sit for a couple months and i think would have raised a lot more money...granted a many donated but more didnt because it was for a negative cause...granted we can all donate at any time but something like that would be fun for the fans to band together and watch their cause grow
He was on Fios Channel 1 a couple weeks ago, and I gained an appreciation for him. He is a big sports fan, has NO problem with Rutgers playing in the Big Ten and hopes we become competitive. His problem is the subsidy, and frankly, we should all be concerned with the subsidy.
That being said, he's using figures from our last year in the AAC when we had something like 3000 donors. I know I'm giving 3 times what I gave in 2013, the number of donors has increased by several factors, and Rutgers has found several ways to monetize football. When the numbers for 2014 are released, a lot of these criticisms will be quieted.
It's unrealistic to expect fans to donate huge amounts of money to a football program that doesn't give them much in return.

So we should have seen a spike in donations after 2006. Instead we got Richie Rutgers complaining that he should keep his 50-yard-line seats and Scarlet parking without donating because he bought a $20 ticket to watch Temple in the rain.
