Lax Vegas Lines Twitter has RU as -4.5 point favorites with an O/U of 20.5 goals. I think we will see more offense this time around as the team was a bit sloppy outside of a dominant 4th quarter. Wonder if Pounds is between the pipes and we save Edelmann for Army next week or does Max make his debut? SJU is getting better but not good enough to threaten RU for more than a half IMO.

Rutgers 15, St. John's 8

St Johns will be a step up. It’s our first away game. I’d be surprised if we see Max. I’ll go with 16-9. Any weather expectations?

AccuWeather has 36 and sunny with some wind in Jamaica, NY on Saturday. Wind would blow some shots off course which could make the scores lower.

Wind sucks for lacrosse. Bad. Especially if you have a run and gun style. Long passes are harder to make.

Cali...I'm a bit closer to you this week...I'm out in Vegas...sunny here today

My prediction for Saturday is simple...just win please...teams tend to make big jumps between games 1 & 2...

I expect to see things getting progressively better...a steady upward improvement trajectory is good for teams...better than flashing big and then taking a step back...

Guys on both offense and defense get another week together and continue to get a better feel

I'll just take a win...a 4-6 goal win would be great....I know RUFamily says watch out for SJU...boys better be ready

I agree. And I agree with Family too. This isn't a lay up. They will be better than Lafayette, that is a guarantee. I don't expect them to win their conference, but I do expect them to compete and make some noise.

Full agreement. I want to see improvement across the board. Fewer unforced turnovers and better shooting, in particular. This is our first away game and St. John's, at least when I was in school, was a quirky place to play.

The squad better be ready.

Enjoy Vegas! Cold out in these parts, though I am sure you'd disagree!

RU 24 - SJ Red Breeze 11. We are waaayyy better than them. AC game 2 = 10 points for him.

I love that Duke lost but you could see the possibility of that happening. HP had a good year last year and has bee a tough team the last couple of years. Duke has also been one of the slow it down teams. The shot clock was definitely going to affect them. Don’t be surprised to see a number of big name teams that played stall ball have bad years.

Not waorried about us vs SJ.

Also, OSU will be winless in B10 play this year. Mark it down.

OSU, Army and Denver are gonna be WAY down this year in the shot clock era. RU dominates OSU last year if they had a shot clock on the whole game.

Duke will be fine, they have had early season losses like this before, it will be interesting to see if Duke starts to play faster, they certainly have the athletes to do it. I Like your confidence but, we are not Duke, we can not afford an early season misstep against St. John's. That being said I think our issues last week are fairly easy to correct and if we fix those issues and continue with the strong faceoff work we should be ok. I would love to see OSU go winless as that would mean we beat them at the SHOE.

High Point just went into Durham and handed Duke a 4 goal L tonight. Need to stay focused especially vs a minor rival this weekend.
Like a dad, I've already pointed to the Duke game last night as a friendly reminder to one player on our team...

With that said, I've seen both sides of this...being part of a mid major program and now a power 5 team...while the larger programs/schools get the higher end talent, these kids at the mid major schools can play...really the biggest factor is depth...

You go to sleep at the wheel against perceived smaller school...you can take a L and it will happen before you know it

Last year I watched two games as examples...Detroit was tied deep into the 4th qtr a ND before ND won by 3...and Detroit had the ball with three straight attempts with under a minute vs OSU to tie the game...OSU ended up winning by 1...

Point is, you take a day off, these smaller schools have enough "guys" to bite you...talent is everywhere

Golfer, while I agree with the premise of what you wrote, look at your two examples. ND and OSU slowed the game down last year to a crawl with the objective of getting a one goal lead then watching paint dry. Teams like this can no longer play keep away thereby giving the smaller schools more opportunities to score and possibly win. It's going to happen a lot this year. RU on the other hand, is built to play fast and is going to be extremely successful this year. AC is the key this year and it will show.

I still don't know how we kept that game close. I think we won 2 faceoffs the whole day.

Hopefully the High Point Duke game serves a little notice. If you don't come to play in NCAA D1 lacrosse now, every game, you will lose.

I caught a little of that game. I wasn't impressed with Duke's team play. Their D seemed to be a bit of mess.

While I hope that you are right, I think the Lafayette had an excellent plan for slowing the game down against us and for the most part it worked. They took very long possessions, on many occasions not starting their offense until there were 25 seconds left or so, they would then run their offense and look to get a shot off Their first three possessions of the game all resulted in shot clock violations, including one while man up. When they played defense they packed it in and played a lot of zone concepts which forced us to take bad shots or shots from outside our comfort zone. go back and watch the third quarter of the game, Lafayette changes their approach at the X and holds the ball and our possessions save one are short. This will be the way that slow down teams will attack the shot clock. In the first 7 minutes of the 3rd quarter Lafayette had 4 possessions and never shot the ball before 45 seconds were run off the clock and on a couple, it was more like 55. Look for this to be the game plan for St. John's as well.

Anyone know if the game is steamed on Sat v St Johns? If yes, what's the network or source...thanks

ESPN3 according to the sk.com calendar that day.
It is not on the ESPN3 schedule I see it on SK.com but when you go to the ESPN3 schedule it does not show Rutgers v St. John’s. It does not show any streaming coverage on Inside Lacrosse either.

Yea, it's weird. I noticed this too. The release even has a the play by play announcer listed. Weird that they would have this granular information but not see it listed on ESPN's site.

Fam- I am sure it will be cold, but text updates if you can!

I'm gonna be pissed if I can't watch...I'm skipping like 3 games and now one of them isn't streamed!!??

I figured every game would be streamed somewhere...

The close defender #2 for Duke looked terrible all game long. I was really unimpressed with Duke's defense.

Not being streamed anywhere that i can find. My son and I will be taking the trip to Jamaica NY

I just came in from walking the dog, you better dress warm, cold and windy out there . An all day lead and win will make it warmer, Ha
