wow they were down 14 in the 3rd...good thing I didnt tune into until now..wow

Indy is decent but RU should be playing better at home. Cant skate by on the road and against better schools...not sure why they are having difficulty

For some unknown reason Giurantes didn't play in the first half which impacted Rutgers offense.Rutgers switched to a pressing defense in the third quarter causing turnovers and easy baskets .The fourth quarter was a back and forth performance with Rutgers finally taking the lead and holding if for the remainder of the game.Indiana is a tremendous foul shooting team which was a big part of their offense. Two technical fouls for taunting after making baskets gave Indiana 4 made foul shots. To their credit Rutgers withstood all the ups and downs of the game and found a way to win. They stay in first place and haven't loss a B1G game at home.

Go RU! w00t!

Now they need to take care of business at Minnesota on Sunday and not get caught looking ahead to Maryland!
Of course RU could lose on Sunday. That's competitive sports. But it they do lose, it won't be because they got caught looking ahead. Not while CVS is the coach.

BTW, Purdue is about to lose at home to Nebraska, by 20. Stuff happens.

CVS was not pleased with the intensity and execution against PSU, and it seemed to carry over into this game. Agree with bac that at home particularly, we need to be "on" right from the beginning, but if I'm not mistaken, this was our first major come from behind win this year? So in that sense, the team showed a lot of grit to turn this around.

Nice to see Calhoun hit the big three to tie the game. Also when Indiana refused to go away at the end, RU stayed calm and hit their FTs (in final 90s of game, RU went 9/10 from the FT line--turning around what had been a terrible FT game). Maybe this is the wake up the team needs--no game the rest of the way will be easy.

and its great that they cameback....and resisted an Indiana comeback late, that is what is very different from some previous teams...they were not able to seal the games late...namely Iowa last year which kept them out of the tourney. All I am saying is when RU goes to Minnesotas of the world its going to be tougher to come back if you are digging holes...also Maryland at home is coming up...huge game have to bring that focus from the get go. I am sure some of that comes from the team adjusting to the role of the hunted rather than hunter

As proof, MN just beat Northwestern on the road; and Nebraska hammered Purdue on the road. So once again, it seems that any team in the B10 can lose to anyone.

For all the analysts (who weren’t there) dissecting this game, I gotta tell you - that was a helluva game. I got upgraded to court side seats, and holy cow, that was as intense a game as I’ve ever seen. Indy is very good and well coached, but as I told the guy sitting next to me, if we throw the press on them in the 2nd half, we will win. Congrats to the team. Arella was the catalyst we needed.

huh? If you want to be a championship team you cant find yourself down 14 at home against a good but not overwhelming Indiana, I am sure CVS would be the first to tell you that.
Good teams sometimes fall behind bad against programs they are considered better than.
The difference between a good a team and one that's only pretty good is : the good teams improve as the game goes on to make up for starting off badly and pull the game out.

I won't claim Rutgers is a good team because of this win , but will claim by the end of tonight's game they played like one.

Indiana isn't a slouch , not with an 16-6 record after this loss to Rutgers on the road.
I look at this game as a hard fought battle between to programs that can't be looked down upon and both possible NCAA teams if things go right for them the rest of this season.

Arella sat most of the first half since she was being disciplined by CViv for an unknown reason, according to Nadine Domond in the post game interview on WCTC

AP Knight, couldn’t agree more. That was one heck of a dog fight. It just didn’t seem to be going RU’s way...some terrible officiating & a lot of balls just weren’t going in the basket. Indiana is a great foul shooting team and their balls were just the opposite of RU’s, every one was finding its way into the basket. Unreal. Wasn’t until the semi-masked 55 defense rattled Indiana off their game that rallied RU back in it. Full credit to the RU players for never losing their cool & kept grinding it out. They stayed calm and got re-energized and found a way to win. Kudos to CVS & the Lady Knights. Take a bow! Indiana was no slouch of a team & wanted this win badly.

Go RU!
Diane

I agree with your comments. The difference this year, however,is that Rutgers is winning games that in previous seasons would have been losses. There is more scoring options which results in more substitutions during the game.Long scoring droughts still remain a concern as Stringer tries different player combinations.

I missed the first half (thank goodness), but I will say when I watched the second half, even during our comeback, I thought we were getting some good shots that just weren't falling. Stasha was posting up well and making solid moves to the basket, her shots just didn't fall as well as they have been. (Side note: it says a lot about the type of B10 season Stasha is having when she goes for 13pts and 9bds and it seems like a big off game)
