RU vs Michigan State 2/18/16

This is supposed to NOT happen with our women. Our men? That's another story. But we've led in double digits all game, and now we choke at the end. Unconscionable.
Happens in every sport ... Getting used to it ... This one really freaking stings.

Don't see any conference title in any sport in next ten years while on the B1G

I hope that CVS doesn't blame the officials, because we know in women's BB the officials are always terrible. The blame should be placed on the was Stringer coached in the 4th quarter. Period. To let MSU get to the line as much as they did and beat us at the FT line is unconscionable to me. No excuses. If you want to get to the dance, you have to win games like this. We didn't. NIT here we come.

What just happened? I was thinking, throughout the entire fourth quarter, that they will find a way to lose this one, and they did. Not surprised. The defense disappeared, no rebounding, and cold shooting. Unbelievable.

It is so hard to keep rooting for this team.

Men and women's soccer; men's wrestling; men's baseball; track events. I see it. With the main revenue sports? No. You're right. Sadly.

MSU scored 29 in the 4th quarter and 19 in the last 4 minutes....they scored only 4 points in the 1st

RU was crushed on 2nd chance opportunities. RU used to have players like Powers now they are soft

Agreed. What happened to our toughness? And please don't mention Laney graduating. We ALWAYS had tough play. It sounds like not tonight or this season for that matter.

I suspect if was the fouls. Could have all been legitimate for all I know, I'm not blaming the referees. I remember one game where all the RU fans blamed the referees and Chelsea Newton's comment was "we played defense with our hands and not the way we were supposed to, and the refs saw it" (against, IIRC, Temple). But never-the-less, it was the fouls. They made more free-throws than we took, shot the free-throws better than we did, and likely didn't have 2 very important players foul out at a key time.

Of course it is CVS's fault - she didn't tell them to stop committing the presumably stupid fouls (just kidding). I don't know whose fault it was, but the coach doesn't actually play the game, I always say.

I'm sad about losing to MSU, but will not give up hope that better days are ahead in the B1G Tourney and the team will two of the 3 remaining games.
Would be nice to say three, but upsetting Maryland will be a hard task .
Maybe home cooking will help beat a great team like Maryland and be the edge that brings the win against Michigan.
Beating Purdue at their house is needed and can be done.
I'll save the woe is us for others.

Copper and Hollivay are our 2 toughest players and they both fouled out. When the 4th started, 4 of our 5 starters had 2 fouls already. The refs called both ways but ours were concentrated on the same girls and that's why we lost 2 of them. Needed them both down the stretch.

and the zebra's foul Copper out. TOTAL BS call.
Lousy call. On the replay it looks like the MSU player went over her back. On one of Copper's other fouls, the replay showed no contact by either player. Overall, I think that the refs called a good game, but those 2 calls really hurt.
I think that Hollivay played a great game. I was somewhat surprised when she fouled out, because she was mostly playing under control.

I have always thought officiating of women's basketball left a lot to be desired. Did not see the game but based on reading this thread it sounds like a terrible loss. Amazing how far this program has fallen and next year looks worse. This was one program one program I thought would compete for conference championships. Women's soccer is our best hope short term.

Excessive fouling and long scoring droughts have been the downfall for this Rutgers team all season.Michigan State plays there usual ugly game and when it gets to crunch time they just keep driving to the basket because they have outstanding foul shooters.
In the end Rutgers lost the game because nobody stepped up and made a basket to keep the lead.Copper is a very talented player but she always seems to be in foul trouble which puts a big burden on Scaife as the only other reliable scorer.

Losing at home when you have dominated the game for three quarters is unacceptable because it shows a lack of fight, discipline and players that know how to win under stressful situations.Coach Stringer had no answers at crunch time and the players were equally missing in action. The loss of a player like Laney was readily apparent in this game because she was a big time player both on offense and defense. The talent on this squad is heading in the wrong direction with each successive season.Next season there only will be Scaife and a lot of question marks. Not a pretty picture moving forward.

Which adding to your previous post means it is time for a change. What was once our best hope for a national championship has now become a program mired in mediocraty and headed in the wrong direction. Hobbs has to make a tough decision here like he had to at Seton Hall for the womens program.

Tough to watch. Seems like this has happened quite a few times this year -- we can't close out. What should this be attributed to?

We are really going to miss Holivay. Moreso than anyone else who graduates. Anyone. Sanders and Parker have progressed nicely as the season has worn on, but we have nobody to replace Holivay, not by leaps and bounds. What she means to the defense is incalculable. She covers up so may mistakes by others.

Kopper will paly at the next level, but this team goes as Holivay goes.

How many second chance points did they score in their rally?
Were we playing a four guard line up at the time?
...once Copper fouled out was it Canty, Sanders, Scaife, and Parker?
