125lbs: McCabe: Looked very stale out there.Has made very little improvement.Ty Agaisse is a very good wrestler, but nowhere near the beasts McCabe will face.Kind of wish DelV would make the cut too 125lbs( if possible).Wrestles with no sense of urgency. In fact,He looks like he regressed.

133lb: The unsung hero of the team. What a Trooper this kid is...doing the unthinkable.Goes from 149 too 133,to now being ranked and undefeated. If he stays healthy and adjusts,I can see him winning some nice matches come NCAA's

141lb: How did I know it was going go down like that.Ash was controlling him the whole match, and the Dubuque clone would score in the last 15 seconds.Ash can't let up against a kid like that.I still wager Ash finishes much higher at NCAA's

149lb:Kenny looked very tough and in control with a very good and underrated Laster. As strong as Laster is,Theo looked like he was toying with him.

157lbs.JVB is the real deal.Everyone hyped him up and I was like "here we go,another hyped up kid for RU goes 10-10 if he's lucky"..but JVB put an arse whipping on that kid. He's something special.

165lbs: Richie Lewis is a stone cold, relentless killer..end of story

174lbs: Bak should not have even wrestled, and we should have replayed 50 of his other matches that went down that way. It's almost like he's thinking"Ok..I'm in overtime in a low scoring match..let me get taken down again, off of my attacks".He's like in Billy Smith mode all the time.Great kid who can't beat a top 15 kid

184lbs: Pure phenom. The pride of this RU team, plain and simple

197lbs: Messner deserves a a huge pat on the back for actually stuffing and wearing down Harner.Did you see Harner on the sidelines?? He looked like he was having stroke, he was so outta breath.Great job by the coaching staff for picking the right guy in a Messner, and staying with one of the top1-3 guys in the land.

Heavy: We are hurting in this weight class..badly! O'Donnell from Princeton looked like some looter on Black Friday in WalMart, grabbing a TV the way he was holding too MCDonald.Terrible match, but at Least we prevailed.

125-133: Dippery has been a pleasant surprise. Can't wait to see how he stacks up against other top 20 guys; hammer on top. I was fully expecting Del to be starter at 33 preseason and.... If Del can safely get to 25 I'd like to see him in the starting lineup again.

141: Kol took one shot the entire match.... and made it count.. I really hope Ash uses this as learning lesson and motivation.. got Ash in the rematch. Kol is the real deal.. I predict he's going to AA this year.

57-65: JVB has also been another pleasant surprise. Does he move up to 65 now and challenge Willie Scott for a spot? Glad to see Richie Lewis wrestling this season.

84: I got a man crush on Gravina. Might have inspired and helpd fire up last two match.

97-HWT: Are these guys the new starters or wrestler by committee? I'm getting images of how when football coaches use multiple running backs depending on matchup/situation. Either way, very positive sign we were able to keep hammers from getting bonus points at these weights.

I havent been able to see us wrestle live this season yet, but let me ask, are dip, theo and gravina looking like possible all-Americans to you guys?

They really have all progressed in our program and seem to have grinded their way to contention.

Looks like we have 6 potential all-Americans in our room now. That is great growth and improvement for Rutgers/NJ wrestling.

Im almost happy Ash lost like that. It'll be a good lesson for the season. If you want to be The National Champ at your weight, you have to be a killer - relentless for 7.

Intermat has us featured on the front page. Great job by everyone including all who attended, it's a big story when it's the second highest attendance.

So was Lewis at 165 just for this match? JVB looked good at 157 and we maybe stronger with this combination although not sure it is in Lewis's best interests from an AA perspective.

I can see Goodale mixing and matching at 149-165 for the season depending on matchups-Sometimes moving Theo and Lewis up and slotting Giraldo in at 149 or just moving Lewis up and slotting Van Brill at 157 or going with Theo and Lewis at their normal weights and slotting Scott in at 165. We have already seen some of those moves.
There is probably a two fold strategy. How to get the best results in the duals but also how to maximize the chances at getting on the podium in March.

ruready07,this has been the constant question asked every year and it is always hit or miss.At this point,Gravina is definitely on track too AA.It all depends what type of Gravina shows up.Is it going too be the Gravina that beat Dudley last year and tech'd the kid from Princeton yesterday? Or is going too be the Gravina that got tossed around by Valencia at Midlands? If Nick peaks at the right time,I see him getting very far in the NCAA tournament.I would say low AA at best.Theo, like Gravina has got too come full force. This is a kid that was riding and turning NCAA finalist Sorensen, getting back points!.So yes,Theo can AA,if he wrestles tough, maintains position and sticks too his type of wrestling. If tries too be slick and score lots of points, that will be too his disadvantage.Dippery, again, like the others aforementioned, has got too be on and ready too maintain his position in neutral( where I think he struggles the most, because would get out muscled). This year however,is not the problem .He's dropped 2 weight classes, and has too be more worried about maintaining weight and his strength. As far a top position ...well..you see most kids will not choose bottom against him. He's arguably one of the top 2-3 riders in the country at this weight class, and one of the top 10 in the whole country. If Dip maintains a slow, steady improvement over the season,I see him reaching round of 12,or maybe catching some high seed who lost in the quarters on the back end of the blood rounds, who is out of steam, and a "charged up" Dippery takes him out too AA.Anything is possible.Look at us now as a team, from 10 years ago.35-40 people when I wrestled, showed up,to having crowds 3 times the size of a Don Bosco Vs Bergen Catholic football game.

But you can only qualify for the post season at one weight class right? Do you need to have a minimum body of work at a weight class to even be considered? This would seem to be the case of the B1G tournament as well.

IMO, this match might have been Coach Goodales best in regards to making moves. JVB at 157 and Lewis at 165 simply brilliant. Then putting Messner at 197 and McDonald at 285 sheer genius after seeing what Correnti and Gross would give us in the Cali road trip.

Ashnault vs Kolodznik could easily be an NCAA semi final come this March. Gravina has looked like he took a big step up from last year, and could contend for AA this year along with Ashnault, Lewis, and possibly Theobold, and maybe even Dippery as a longer shot.

I have to agree with Creedo/Legit- that Joe Dubuque is just as talented an Asst coach as our Donny Pritzlaff. It was a long time ago I saw both wrestling at the same NJ Region. Dubuque at Glen Ridge, Pritzlaff at Lyndhurst . Both going on to multipe state and National Championships. Living about 5 miles apart. Heck I even remember Pritzlaff going through the regions with a huge facemaks protecting his broken nose, lol. I imagine both will be Head Coaches at big programs soon.
I guess I'm old, lol.

Coach Goodale was brilliant yesterday. Rutgers won due to skillfully coaching and building the right lineup to maximize team points and minimize major points by Princeton.

Have too agree with you Bigmatt.Brilliant tactical plan on Goody's part.I would like to see Goody leave Messner in there and see what he can do this season. He's a really gamer and that was no slouch he stayed with.I'm sensing everyone, including Messner underestimated what more he could have done yesterday.I think he played it safe and "took one for the team" so too speak ( which was the plan from the beginning).I bet if he wrestled balls out,he could of kept that closer.I was not all impressed with Harner or Schleifer yesterday.I thought Schleifer was a big, immobile moose out there, with limited technique. Harner also looked worn down.In fact,I think if Messner pressed the action more,he very well might have gotten some takedowns on him.

Very bad example. Everyone gets tossed around by Valencia.

Im curious to see if Delvecchio is able to cut down to 125. If McCabe keeps struggling I would consider it if I'm Goodale.

BigMatt- I doubt Del can make 125, he tried his true frosh year and only made it a few times and then could not make it any longer. That was 3 seasons ago, he has put on even more weight since then.

JerseyDevil-not my opinion about Lewis at 165, it was what I was told.

So who do I use then? Geez, even when I'm positive, you guys have too pick out one flaw.Bunch of a-holes.Typical with guys who are jock sniffers who never set foot or had limited time on the mat.

That seems a lil shocking as he only weighed in at 162 yesterday...

Had plenty of time on the matt thanks though. i wasn't trying to pick you comment apart. Valencia is a jr world medalist for god sake. That's all. I could care less if you positive or not. Just wanted to clarify.

That sounds like the most probable scenario. Lewis at 165 for deals, 157 for tournaments.

Rutgers best NCAA Tournament hopefuls in order:
Ashnault at 141
Lewis at 157
Gravina at 184
Theobold at 149
Dippery at 133
Lewis at 165(not his best weight class)
Delvecchio at 125(if possible)
Bakuckas at 174

Yes, he played it smart those final 2 minutes but he got into his head in that first period and let it be known he would not be pushed around nor would he be intimidated. He got into his face a few times yet didn't get sloppy. Just a great approach to that match and he was my MVP.

One other thing. I was flat out wrong about Dippery. I thought Delvechio was prime to run with 133, but Dip appears to have new life at 133. I just hope he can hold the weight because he has looked fantastic so far and is a bull on top at this weight. If he doesn't get sucked out he could make a sneaky run this year.

I personally would like to see Messner start at 197 for at least Grapple at the Garden. If he is serviceable like he was vs Harner then start him and let Correnti RS to gain the weight needed to be a Heavyweight.

Too late for Correnti to redshirt.

Correnti just need time I think. Messner is a good guy to have and adds toughness and heart. Good problem to have.

The big difference this year is the depth we have amassed especially at the middle weights. Both Van Brill brothers, Delvecchio, Giraldo, Pagano, DeLuca would be legitimate starters on most teams. And next year once our blue chip recruits finish RS we could have no holes in our lineup except maybe at Heavy, and perhaps by then Gross will be back in wrestling shape. If not I'm sure we can secure a Grad Transfer or JUCO Heavy while Correnti RS in 2017.

I just took a look at the Iintermat rankings. Dippery is at 13 at 133 but only 8th in the BIg Ten. The Big Ten has the top four spots and 6 of the top 10.

The Van Brill brothers look like they are going to be special before their careers are over at Rutgers.

Cornell will be favored when they face Rutgers at the Garden.
Cornell is particularly strong in the heavier weight classes.
174 Brian Realbuto
184 Gabe Dean
197 Owen Scott
285 Jeramy Sweany
Hopefully, Rutgers can win 4 of 10 matches against Cornell.

If it is true about Correnti's redshirt, then I would think he should start hitting the grease trucks and go back up too heavy. He's struggling at 197lbs,and if Messner can keep the momentum, and get some more mat time,he might be a surprise at the end of the season.Correnti wrestling 197lbs is just absurd. You can see he's lost a little "pop"out there from the cut.McDonald, although a gamer,is not big enough or strong enough too man heavyweight right now.Same with Gross.I wish Gross would make that cut too 197.It's only 30 lbs and he could do that in 3-4 weeks. He's be dynamic at 197lbs.

JVB reminds me a lot of Perrotti in the way that he wrestles. He's a gooer, a bit funky, and not afraid to scrap. Very entertaining!

That seems a lil shocking as he only weighed in at 162 yesterday...

That's probably b/c he was targeting to wrestle at 157 and didn't make the cut. I'm guessing Lewis will be at 165lb this year - and he may actually be more effective at 165, b/c at 157, you'll see Giraldo (at 133) all over again - weak and sluggish.

I'm excited about this team! I agree with many of you thinking we have as many as 6 AA in the room with Ash, Theo, Lewis, Dip, Gravina, and yes, Bak. Bak is a one tough guy there, and I think he has what it takes to AA with little luck going his way.
