RU vs Purdue 1/2/22

might have lost the game in the end , but shown heart and a no give up spirit. .
But in the final tally, still a loss.
Exactly still a loss and we probably won’t win another game the rest of the way hopefully Hobbs is working on his coaching replacement list

We can’t get down by 21 and then claw back only to lose it on a steal and layup at the buzzer. Feel badly for the girls.

To paraphrase both CVS (many times) and Arizona Coach Adia Barnes (in an article in today's local paper) -

They did not lose it on a steal and layup at the buzzer. They lost it in a series of plays during the game that got them down by 21 in the first place.

That said, the comeback is impressive and folks need to stop deciding the team will not win another game. The comeback was suggestive that they may. Note this is not touting any kind of a successful season or commenting on the coaching. I am simply saying that the probability at this point is that they will have some further wins, and saying they won't would only be appropriate if they had lost this game by the 20.

I didn't follow the game live. Tough to see the familiar pattern of winning the 4th quarter after getting outplayed in the first three. What will it take to compete from the start?

Great comeback but difficult to win games when the team only scores 58 points.

Just watched the game late last night. The way I see it, the players just can't get comfortable out on the floor and get in a groove because they are looking over their shoulder wondering if they are about to be subbed out. Tim is not going with his best from the start......for whatever reason. He doesn't seem to know how to take advantage of any mismatches or get the right people in the best position to be effective.

How many more games will we see Osh with the ball on the perimeter with no defender within ten feet because she doesn't want to shoot from there. To me, she should be operating from the baseline-in the paint rotation. Meanwhile, Lasha can't get shots. The aggressiveness is being coached out of her. She is one who could be a regular double figure scorer for us.

Tiya is teasing us with a good game when she is about to be sat down, only to follow it up with more subpar play. Chyna is showing that she deserves to see the floor and Sakima only played 5 minutes yesterday. I thought we could have had an advantage against Purdue early if we played Sakima and Tiya/Chyna.

Why was Lasha not starting? Was it Joiya's birthday or something? Tim's coaching of Lasha seems questionable to me. Yes, she needed to adjust from taking the majority of her teams shots last year, but she should be featured more on this team, not asked to blend in as a role player. He's not putting her in positions where she can excel. Toward the end of the game yesterday, I saw the team look to her to make a play offensively on consecutive trips down the floor. She scored on a tough layup and then passed out to Sayawni for an open three that missed. Bottom line, she got good looks each time she touched the ball.

Went back to her on the last play, and it didn't work out, but if you are allowing your best to get into a flow from the beginning, then we probably don't fall behind by 20. This year's talent is being wasted because of lack of clear direction from a coaching standpoint. SB, PSU, and Purdue were games we had to have because we are more talented than each of them. I tell you, it sometimes feels like Tim is not trying to win. His concern of playing everybody because they practice everyday is going to ensure misery for everyone involved.

Let them be 100% focused on the court and not distracted by the sideline/sub patterns.

On our last O chance Petree was wide open from about 12 feet but tried to force a pass inside.
Why? I suspect she was following orders from the bench of what the coach wanted our last attempt to be. He has coached the natural talent out of the team. They play scared, looking unsure of themselves. First few games as the players were just getting familiar with each other...OK. But it is January. I fear they will never come together. Coach grades out as a Fail.

I agree with the unsure nature in which they move,....all of them except Victoria. Just my opinion, but down the stretch it was Victoria's decisive play, like I said before, her No nonsense, let's get it done! attitude that would have told me as coach to go to her on the high screen play from the top of the key that seemed to work that whole quarter. She was the hot hand and primed for that moment.

I'm not mad at going with Lasha in that moment either, but Tim's got to plan the play more clearly so that Osh takes her girl away so Lasha has the clear path. Lasha beat her defender nicely but Osh and her defender were right there in her path. If Osh faded over to the opposite side of the basket, her girl would have had to go with her or leave Osh open for the easy dump down pass which Lasha is capable of making in that situation. It was a case of poor spacing at THE worst time.
