Just watched the game late last night. The way I see it, the players just can't get comfortable out on the floor and get in a groove because they are looking over their shoulder wondering if they are about to be subbed out. Tim is not going with his best from the start......for whatever reason. He doesn't seem to know how to take advantage of any mismatches or get the right people in the best position to be effective.
How many more games will we see Osh with the ball on the perimeter with no defender within ten feet because she doesn't want to shoot from there. To me, she should be operating from the baseline-in the paint rotation. Meanwhile, Lasha can't get shots. The aggressiveness is being coached out of her. She is one who could be a regular double figure scorer for us.
Tiya is teasing us with a good game when she is about to be sat down, only to follow it up with more subpar play. Chyna is showing that she deserves to see the floor and Sakima only played 5 minutes yesterday. I thought we could have had an advantage against Purdue early if we played Sakima and Tiya/Chyna.
Why was Lasha not starting? Was it Joiya's birthday or something? Tim's coaching of Lasha seems questionable to me. Yes, she needed to adjust from taking the majority of her teams shots last year, but she should be featured more on this team, not asked to blend in as a role player. He's not putting her in positions where she can excel. Toward the end of the game yesterday, I saw the team look to her to make a play offensively on consecutive trips down the floor. She scored on a tough layup and then passed out to Sayawni for an open three that missed. Bottom line, she got good looks each time she touched the ball.
Went back to her on the last play, and it didn't work out, but if you are allowing your best to get into a flow from the beginning, then we probably don't fall behind by 20. This year's talent is being wasted because of lack of clear direction from a coaching standpoint. SB, PSU, and Purdue were games we had to have because we are more talented than each of them. I tell you, it sometimes feels like Tim is not trying to win. His concern of playing everybody because they practice everyday is going to ensure misery for everyone involved.
Let them be 100% focused on the court and not distracted by the sideline/sub patterns.
