RU vs. Wisconsin wrestling thread

This is redundant but feel need to say it:

1. The Badger announcer was so annoying, like he was leading a class of 4th graders in cheering. Before, during and after the match, no less. His style did remind one of a carnival barker... really doesnt mix well with wrestling

2. I dont know if the idea of REPLAYS during live wrestling is new... hopefully it is because they can stop it now. Who in their right mind came up with this idea?? Certainly couldnt be a sports enthusiast.. The most ridiculous thing I can imagine... Ive never seen it done purposely before in any sport. Just happy it didnt cost us missing a lat drop or something important.. other than anxiety waiting to return to live action

They were simply broadcasting the in-venue video board show. That’s why the “commementator” was just one PA announcer and why there were replays being shown while the match was ongoing (designed for fans at the event that would then have the option to continue watching the bout on the mat or look up at the video board to see the replay).

Who has been the best 174 pounder the last 5 years for RU (Phill Bak?). Is he better than him? Our staff's job is to turn the marginal NCAA qualifiers into All American or contenders. I like Grello, i think he will be a blood round kind of wrestler by his 3rd of 4th year. I have only followed college wrestling since Goodale has been at RU so i dont have many years of following NCAA Wrestling

Ok, but didnt someone make the decision to show those replays in place of live action to the viewing audience on BTN?

Well, considering Bak started last 4 years prolly him or Pagano... Pagano was slated as a lock to qualify and dark horse to AA at start of the year.. so I am hopeful grello can continue to develop since he beat out Pagano for the spot.. maybe they should have another wrestleoff?

I just don't see him AA in his time here.

Fair enough, but what you said below was harsh. In totality I've seen steady improvement from him this year that gives me hope he can step it up a level next year. No, he may not AA but that describes the majority of RU wrestlers throughout our long history and we've had some pretty darn good kids who never AA'd for RU.

Sorry, but Grello is nowhere near good. Terrible.

Tough call here because you know the development between freshman up to senior can be monumental. Given his age I’m confident. We were all talking about Pagano and his abilities this year and Grello went out and took his spot. Feel much more comfortable about 174 than 195

No, the schools simply push the video/audio they’re capturing to BTN2GO which then makes the stream available on their platform. There was no TV producer in this case who is deciding which cameras/graphics/audio is being trafficked to BTN2GO (and then subsequently to the viewer), which was pretty evident due to there only being one camera and a PA Announcer.

My guess is Wisconsin’s “Student U” team was short-staffed for the event and didn’t have the bodies necessary to provide a more sophisticated broadcast, so they simply pulled the video board feed and streamed that to BTN2GO.

Ok, thanks for the explanation

I like in the SDV match he explains what short time is after no one gets it.

God, "short time!" is going to be in my head all day now.

But our long history isn't something to write home about. To move the program forward we need those pretty darn good kid's to become AA's. So pointing to a history of mediocracy as the bench mark should not be used as the status quo. With that said, I've seen some good wrestling from Grello, he just hasn't figured out how to close out matches yet. I think he will in time.

Uhh... I think you completely missed my point in context of the discussion.

Lehigh, Cornell and Missouri as well. Still seems odd seeing Mizzou wrestlng in the MAC.
I don't consider Lehigh, with a max capacity of 1,800, as a big time atmosphere for Wrestling, went last year & it reminded me of a good sized HS facility.

To get a win and get a pin that won the match. Also good pressure experience to see what he has to contribute.

It’s too bad that they didn’t realize how long NS would be out, they could’ve used him for the prior match as well.
