RU-Wake game thread

I agree with this. The kid seems limited but he does have a nice stroke. I think if he can get some confidence, he can contribute a lot eith this team. We have no shooters!!!

Eddie had him in there for extended minutes. Looked more in control than most. I've seen this before where the one spot up guy doesn't feel like he belongs even though he is in there for a reason.

Just started watching....quick observation about the thread, those that post about bad plays don't post when the team is playing well.....Where are they during the 2nd half ???

Defense is good and Rutgers is outscoring WF by 11 in the 2nd half.
My theory is that the kids saw that blowing a big lead against Maryland helped the football players get a new coach and so Williams, Daniels and Freeman tanked in front of Hobbs so he'll quickly end the long, national nightmare of "Eddie Jordan -- College Coach"

Doesn't Eddie have a chance to go 1-0 against SHU on Saturday?

Few things...Freeman was awful defensively, rebounding and hustle before he was hurting. He was limping late 1st half and rest of the way. He didn't play because he was hurt I believe.

2 mistakes Jordan made....1. sticking with a hobbled Freeman way too long in the 2nd haf 2. taking the air out of the ball in the possession with 70 seconds left

Having said that....Daniels sits and Foreman loses his job is EXACTLY what this team needs. Freeman losing his job needs to be next step. WHEN he wasnt limping in transition I saw Lewis blow by Freeman getting back on D twice early in the game. Freeman needs to understand what he did at the JUCO level on defense and rebounding wont cut it here. Message has to be sent. He has done it with Foreman and Daniels

Also I was VERY happy with the substiution pattern tonight. Disciplined, got players rest in both halves and stayed with sanders on the bench.

Eddie was very angry at the Sanders trust and was still very upset in the radio interview. I am glad to hear this.

I asked for a game in the 60s and got it. Hated the result, but left satisfied.

FIG....it's good to hear a comment from someone who knows the game....instead of the idiots with their Jordan sucks, team suck, etc.

The team played a good game, showed some youth, made some mistakes, but, that's basketball. A game of runs and momentum....just fell a little short. They missed a few key shots down the stretch, the Sanders shot and the Williams shot.

Of course the possession when Sanders held the ball too long really hurt.

Freeman was inexcusably bad in every facet for the entire game. Offense: Lazy, selfish jump-shooting & wild runners. Zero hustle or effort on defense. There was a loose ball under our basket on defense & instead of diving on the floor like a real baller, he half-assed reached his arms down. His body language was awful. When he mistakenly thought he was subbed out (leaving four guys on floor), he gives Laurent crap for the miscommunication, instead of being happy to stay in the game, and running back onto the court.

I was effusively praising this kid after the first couple games, but this just made me furious. I'm glad he sat late in the game; he should have been on the bench sooner.

Typical Rutgers - a guy comes in & looks like the offensive & rebounding spark that we've long needed. And then he proves to be someone who takes an inordinate number of plays off every game. In the first half he let his man shoot a wide open perimeter jumper uncontested because he was fixing his hair. For real.

All the money donated & spent on tickets. All the time spent attending games, and I have to watch someone expend minimal effort like they're hanging out in their driveway trying not to break a sweat.

If he was sick or hurt, he should've been on the bench.

He was definitely hurt, but you highlighted one of the plays that tells you a lot. Loose ball and he wasn't on the floor. Jordan MUST reprogram him now before it is too late. He can't be allowed to play in spurts. he can't be allowed to jog back in transition and end up taking the wrong man or watching his man stuff home an offensive rebound as he jogs towards the paint.

that possession late with the shot clock violation is just so inexcusable...up 1 I think and you are running the play in front of the bench. How in the world could the staff not communicate what needed to happen there. That and the last possession to me were brutal. Tight games are won and lost by coaching down the stretch...this was a case of Rutgers losing because of coaching. And I was given Eddie a lot of credit for his halftime adjustments which perked up the offense and for the great defensive effort in general at least for the first 30 minutes. But those last 7 minutes were awful, cannot let your team not hit a basket.

Corey Sanders has played tons of basketball in his life. Unless AAU games have a shot clock, he has never played with one. Right now his internal clock isn't working very good. I think he needs to start at 10 on the clock so the ball has a chance to get moved once or twice. if he starts with 5 he must finish or deliver ONLY to a target that has a clear close shot opportunity.

also the shot right before halftime....awful... dribbled for 25 seconds and waited until 5 seconds left on shot clock to take long jump shot that bricked and RU couldn't even get the inbound right after the rebound and almost let Wake get a bucket before half

players faults or coach not drilling into these guys heads what you need to do.

Very bad sequence. Should have been 2 WF FTs and a game where we could have cut the lead to 2 or 3 should have been turned in to a -7.

I expect by mid january Sanders will get it right with the timing. Sanders has probably played in over 500 basketball games in his life. This was his 7th with a shot clock.

Are you blind? Freeman was hurt. Stupid Eddie left him in the game for way too long and forgot about Grier.
Freeman is one of the unselfish , high IQ players we have. In the first few games he passed well but Lewis or Diallo would drop the ball. Would not be surprised if Eddie and the staff told him to be more unselfish. You and GRF have to get off his back. Without Sanders and Freeman healthy the rest of the way , we have no chance. As in Zero chance to win games. Open your eyes !!!

No...we don't turn the corner as a program until Freeman brings it more on the defensive end....or else he should sit next to Daniels.

Can't jog back on D, lose your man every third possession, and not go hard after loose balls.

Probably too harsh on my end, but I'd rather watch a guy go 1-10 from the field and play his hardest on the defensive side of the court.

Not blind. I see pretty well sitting near the court. As I stated above, I have previously heaped praise on Freeman for several aspects of his game. But taking plays off on defense & loose ball situations has happened on several notable occasions (eg late vs Central Arkansas) prior to yesterday.

Are you going to defend his numerous first half 19-footers that were taken early in the shot clock?

Do not disagree that he has to pick it up on defense. Early games he was rebounding and coming from the weak side to block shots. Defense is not his strong suit but don't call out a guy that was hurt and that is why he didn't dive on the floor. You are right you are a little too harsh on him.

We agree that Grier should've played major minutes in the 2nd half. I was yelling his name out at the bench in despair. kid gave us a real spark in the first half & was rewarded with the bench. puzzling.

I like Goode & Laurent though. I feel ok with them on the floor late in the game. as long as Laurent isn't shooting a jumper.
