rumored new DC

the recent bowl game is troublesome, if he is the new dc, one can only hope it will be ash's defense and he will just implement ash's scheme

The NUI defensive performance ( or lack thereof) vs. Boise in the Bowl game was indicative of the Defense problems all year long at NUI. NUI finished 10th in the MAC in Defensive Yards Allowed this year ( just One Yard per game better than UMASS....ummmm). Perhaps they new personnel this year ???

If you watch that game I think their squad was completely interested, after losing the MACtitle game, both sides of the ball. They did hold Ohio State to 20 points this year, don't forget that, you know?

There is NO question I'm my mind hex was brought in for 2 major reasons:

- does it need to be taught how to run a defense from the administrative or coaching side of things

- to install and run Ash's D

Ok with this hire but like others not wowed. I actually think our new defensive backs coach might have been a good DC choice.

My only question is will there be a little more diversity with the remaining hires?

This hire was always the least important since we have Ash, but he looks like a solid hire. #oldandhungry

Well, you're not gonna win over the people sexed up by Mike Vrabel and high-priced former power five head coaches that are available , but here's a guy that's been doing it for years and probably knows exactly what Ash expects and wants, which is all that matters.

initially the prospect of Vrabel was interesting - potentially attractive .... no ..incredibly attractive!

...but - when seriously, seriously pondering "fit" ... "alignment" ... "spotlight sharing" ... and how well it would work ... well, then it began to look a little less attractive ... Vrabel is a great guy, his history should be an asset - but with such a high profile & with the community having such lofty expectations for him - it might be somewhat disruptive of the vision that Ash has - - and Vrabel could be quickly wooed away by a larger opportunity. Ash want people who are going to be able to stay with the program for the full climb to the top - -
Niemann - Knows what he needs to do - he has extensive experience as a "coordinator" & is ready to be in this through to the finish.

Didn't we also hear Taver Johnson and Larry Johnson's names mentioned as well? Hopefully this guy works out but right now there is not anyone with local connections on this staff and I would think that needs to be a priority for at least one of the remaining slots to be filled.

We should hire the brother of one of the top high school coaches in the state, then watch the recruits flow. Right?

It looks to me like Ash has written off NJ for this year. Not that he won't make an attempt at grabbing a few up-in-the-air guys, but he seems more concerned with building a staff and then working the NJ HSs, with the target of building relationships for 2017. My guess is they will try to bring in some guys from the midwest along with these coaches to round out this year's class.

I'm supportive of the hires so far. I'm not knocking this hire especially in light of the fact that it will be Ash's D and the DC will implement it. But it just seems that defense is so much about fire and passion and having guys run thru a brick wall. Watching those videos above, it seems like it might be tough to stay awake in the meeting room let alone going out and knocking the snot out of QBs RBs and the guy across from you.

How about just somebody who has recruited the state in the past? I don't think Campanile got it down and was not sorry to see him go but to have a full staff with no local relationships would not seem desirable to me.

Hello Niemann.

It does? Based on what?

Not writing off recruiting NJ players, but not spending a lot of time this recruiting season schmoozing HS coaches, based on limited time. Just based on some quotes re: hiring midwest coaches, where it seems he has a short term plan for 2016 and a long term plan going forward.
