Russo to announce on Monday

God help this board if Russo chooses Temple or uconn.

You beat me to that.
It's a no-lose situation for me. If he commits to Rutgers we get a nice prospect for a key position 3 or 4 years down the road. If he doesn't pick RU I get to laugh at all of the Chicken Littles crying about the disaster.
Too funny.

That is unpatriotic.

Not really. Russo had an offer, there for the taking, BEFORE either Guarantano or Haskins committed.
Yea and the staff was not recruiting him 1/2 as hard. Both JG and DH were on campus within days of their announcement and you can imagine how many times coaches were checking in at their school or home. Just because a recruit had a offer does not make them a priority. Again it was well published by several tecruting outlets JG/DH were top priority recruits. Haskins was the top QB recruit for Notre Dame, Florida, Maryland, Alabama, PSU

It would be nice if he commits and then develops over his next year.

One thing that I'd like to know is if he is a D1 talent level QB then why was his HS team a run-first team? Wouldn't they want to take advantage of their QB? Looking at their 2015 grad class and their 2016 class, they had 2 stud OL but no RBs who had/have offers.

They rushed for over 2K yards, averaged 240 yds./game and averaged 8 yds./carry. Not too shabby and it worked as they won a state championship. This is no knock on the kid who threw for 21 TDs in the season in his first season as a Varsity player. When you stack up his numbers against JG and Haskins, they look good except he got it done with a lot less attempts than Haskins. Some coaches prefer to run and if the opposing team can't stop it, then why go away from that strategy?

If he commits to Rutgers it will be fun following Russo this upcoming season and to see if Archbishop opens up the game plan more, especially with the 4 star WR they have in play.

They are taking advantage of their QB. As soon as Russo got the job this past year they greatly transformed the offense to take make use of his throwing ability, which is basically unheard of at that school. They now mix in the pass/play action more because of him. Equivalent to having an RB so gifted that an air raid offense became a not-as-much-air-raid offense just to complement his talent.

Anthony Russo threw for 21 TD's and only 2 INT's last year, while
leading Archbishop Wood to a PIAA AAA State Football Championship.
Ben McDaniels and many of Rutgers potential Wide Receiver recruits think very highly of Anthony. He is a great fit for Rutgers offense. Anthony is also a good student. He is a legitimate 6'3 and he is very coachable.

I think Russo has the potential to be a really, really, good QB.

He's got the prototypical pocket quarterback size, he's a winner (3A Championship) and he's got the stats (21-2 TD/Int) to back that comment up. And he looks pretty darn good on tape.

I'm keeping my fingers crossed that he chooses Rutgers tomorrow.

And as far as being rated as 2-stars, I wouldn't be the least bit surprised if he has a monster senior season and winds up a 3-star. If that happens, let's hope he doesn't flip to another school when they suddenly realize how good he is and he starts getting late offers from Pitt or Iowa or whoever. It wouldn't be the first time our coaching staff spotted an overlooked talent only to have other schools swoop in at the last minute.

The only negative about Russo is that his opting for Rutgers( if that's his decision) is that it will be met with little fanfare and much skepticism. And it's not likely that recruits will regard it as a significant commit and thereby spur other three and four star commitments. Fair or not , that's likely the case. That being said, I respect Flood and the staff in their ability to recruit possibly overlooked talent. Give the kid a chance.

Russo > JG
This can't be. We all know truly great QBs have to drag us through a ton of prima donna driven drama first for at least a year before choosing a place to play. They then succumb to deceitful, negative recruiting that convinces them that some storied program of the past is still a power even though it's not. They then hide in, say, the mountains of Tennessee because they never really had the courage to lead their home school under the scrutiny of family and friends.
You are suggesting this Russo kid is impossibly mature beyond his years to know what he wants and that's a team coached by quality people that actually consider their players students too. And on Monday, he might reveal he savors the closeness of a school with huge potential instead of fearing it? Can't be.

Smell the sarcasm. I hope it is us. Sounds like a kid with a ton of potential that doesn't need the spotlight.

It's not a put down of any player it's the overwhelming glee that some folks have with Flood's recruiting. This is all setting up for a disaster for us in the B1G in 2016 and beyond.

Interesting take. I'm hard pressed to find all the gleeful people whooping up the loss of Haskins. Perhaps your perception is askew. Seems that people think it's ok to denigrate another recruit as a reaction to other posters being able to move emotionally forward more quickly regarding something completely out of their control.

It's times like theses that almost make me wish our board was run like the PSU boards, so we wouldn't have to deal with so many bellyaching whiners over here.

Almost.

Anthony Russo is needed and should be appreciated if he decides to become Sir Anthony
