Shameen Jones was given a 5.6 3* while Duggan and Hayek were given 2*, moving us up a smidge. On the whole I think Rivals rankings for our class are pretty much fair, but here's three names who I think should move up.

Johnathan Lewis - 5.6
Jonathan Taylor - 5.6
Jaohnne Duggan - 5.4

Duggan, Hayek, and Naijee Jones are our only 2* commits and I think Duggan has the best case to move up and be a 3*. Meanwhile of all our 3* commits, I feel Lewis and Taylor have the strongest cases for a 4th star. Melton and Vretman are closer at 5.7, but Lewis and Taylor have done really well for themselves of late. Taylor won the NJ 100 meter meet of champions as a junior which is very impressive, while Lewis impressed at the Elite 11 Finals.

I look forward to all the Debbie downer posts downplaying our class. :flush:

I can barely believe this
I always said it would happen once we got into the B10
and
it has happened !!!!!!!!!
We are a recruiting power....in NJ...and as a NY guy,,,I would say NYS too !!!

We'll be ranked between 28-32th in the overall ranking by signing day. Taking into account that some teams have smaller recruiting classes right now I expect teams like Auburn, , Ol' Miss , Florida, Oregon, Texas, Iowa, North Carolina, Nebraska and Penn State to have better classes. This is 20 times much better than a Flood recruiting class. I am not dreaming like some fans and want to bring some of the fans back to reality just like I spoke about Flood class last year. Everyone should be happy since no one expected more from coach Ash. Most probably expected a class between 40-60th.

#15 on 247. 19 total verbals. Two 4* and the rest 3*.

247 does a better job than rivals on recruiting rankings.

Not trying to rain on the Rutgers parade, but that ranking will drop as some of the other schools rake in the big names out there. Our class at Northwestern is rated at 19th on 247 and is a similar slot at Rivals, largely because, like Rutgers, have a large number of commits (17 at present), but we'll probably sink somewhere into the 30s-40a. I'd like to think we'll outrecruit Florida and some of the other schools presently ranked behind us, but doubt it will happen. That said, Ash seems to be off to a good start for Rutgers and it looks as if he's bringing in more in-state talent. Good luck down the road.

It's almost impossible to end up in the 40's at this point without decomits.

You're also assuming we don't land any more 4 stars which is a bad assumption.

We all get that, but given the past few years, it shows an improvement and the excitement is warranted. I think this class will be somewhere in the 25-30 range come February. Good luck to you as well.

Read my post. That's where we should land unless we lose 3-5 recruits or we add 2-3 4 stars.

We are recruiting like Flood never existed.

Duggan and Hayek were give 2 stars because they really haven't been evaluated by rivals. A 5.4 2 star is the default ranking for a recruit who hasn't really been on the radar.

Sounds about right and will be happy with that.

Should be better than 30. With a couple breaks, top 25

Get us 2 more 4 stars and we'll be in the Top 25. I don't know if we get 2 more.
I think we have three already. Bo should get a fourth star at some point. Couple more after that and we'll make it. Think there's a good shot we get there. Heck we might get four more after that, especially if a rb or vretman earns another star.

Sucks we will still be behind Michigan Ohio state penn state and Maryland and sparty. We r in one tough division of the BIG

Brutal, but we have have a chance to finish higher than some. Definitely first two and most likely the others will be higher, but lots of time and lots of things can happen, especially something dramatic as a coaching change.

We are ahead of PSU, MSU and Maryland.
we are ahead of Auburn and USC too but it's July 1st. I hope I'm wrong but I doubt we will be ahead of these teams in February. Our class is 4/5 done Lets see what happens hopefully we are competitive this season and we keep the class together.

That may be true, but right now we are ahead not behind those schools.

Why will our ranking drop? The schools that will "rake in" 4* and 5* players from here are all ranked ahead of us by now already.

It's July. Who gives a sh$t what our recruiting ranking is. It means absolutely nothing. Even after NLI signing day, a recruiting rank is of questionable value. It's exciting to have players offer verbal commits right now, I get it. But quit brandishing rankings like it means something.

Duggan and Hayek were give 2 stars because they really haven't been evaluated by rivals. A 5.4 2 star is the default ranking for a recruit who hasn't really been on the radar.

This is not true any longer. Rivals will not rank a player now unless they have seen them live or watched all the tape there is available on them. There is no default ranking any longer. They will leave a player unranked until they can review their film. If a player commits that they haven't ranked then they will watch their film ASAP so it keeps the team rankings correct. Any player with a star ranking has been reviewed.

Here's a quick, eyeball analysis of the recruiting classes ranked behind and ahead of us.

Currently ranked behind RU but should finish ahead:
North Carolina
USC
Florida
Nebraska
Auburn
TCU
Penn St.
Mississippi
Texas
Stanford
Oregon

Currently ranked behind RU and may or may not finish ahead:
South Carolina
Iowa
Oklahoma St.
Michigan St.
Maryland
Texas Tech
Washington
Arkansas
Wisconsin
Virginia Tech
Colorado
Missouri

Currently ranked ahead of RU and may or may not finish behind:
Arizona
Houston

So if you put the first group of schools ahead of us, that would put RU at 27. If we split the other two groups fifty-fifty, that would put RU at a 32 ranking. Of course, this is all just a very rough, early projection. The most important factor is how many more four stars Ash and company will be able to pull in. They'd probably have to get another four or five to have any hope of finishing ranked at 16.

Actually the best job of ranking players in respect to us is NJVarsity.com, who specializes in rating all the New Jersey prospects. They make it a habit of trying to see every major NJ football prospect on a football field, not from a 2 minute highlight tape or from a camp or combine when they are in shorts and a t-shirt.

They have long stated Melton is way underrated and also think CJ Onyechi is underrated as well who they rate higher then for example 4 star Harrison Hand and high 3 star Tommy Devito.

I guess the person they think is the most underrated is a person we lead for but has not committed to us yet, Mike Tverdov. They rate him as #7 in the state where Rivals rates him as #27 in the state.

It's all about perception baby. Recruiting means something (everything) in B1G time college athletics, therefore the rankings definitely do mean something. Bo, vretman, Lewis, 2 RBs are definitely under consideration for amended rankings. Keep it going CA!!

Well the rankings has a lot to do with quantity as opposed to average ranking per player. We will not end up having top 20 class.

However I think this is enough to have us end is the low 30's and if we are lucky in the high 20's. Which is a huge huge deal.

Not a bad point to be honest and I didn't really think of it that way. At best, there are 5-10 teams behind us who may jump us and a little less if we pick up another 4 star or two and Bo(100%) gets his 4th and maybe one more does as well.

I would guess about the same. But it still comes down to performance and we will have better idea how good this class is in about 4 years.

That bo doesn't have his 4th star is pure negligence on rivals' part. if he'd committed to oregon, he'd have 4 stars today. His ability is off the charts. When people say the rankings are sometimes biased by where a plater committed, bo's 3* rating is proof of that. Melton is a borderline 5* talent. I'd settle for 4.
