Rutgers 2017 Recruiting Class Now #16 in the country

That bo doesn't have his 4th star is pure negligence on rivals' part. if he'd committed to oregon, he'd have 4 stars today. His ability is off the charts. When people say the rankings are sometimes biased by where a plater committed, bo's 3* rating is proof of that. Melton is a borderline 5* talent. I'd settle for 4.

Agree 100% with this. His skill set is reminiscent of Percy Harvin. All-around game, explosiveness to the hole or to a seam in in the defense, decisive cuts and breakaway speed.

I don't usually hype to much but when you watch Bo, it is hard to imagine anyone dominating teams better then he does. And just like DH before him, Bo's dad has been diligent in teaching him technique. I don't think rivals would even consider a 5th star but if they ever did, you would not find anyone who said he was overrated

Well the rankings has a lot to do with quantity as opposed to average ranking per player. We will not end up having top 20 class.

We have this discussion almost every year.... Your point rings true, but every year some go off the rails by these early rankings.... 30 is a decent target, hopefully we land a couple of 4 stars added on here to put us in position to finish that high.

Read my post. That's where we should land unless we lose 3-5 recruits or we add 2-3 4 stars.

We are recruiting like Flood never existed.

Did read your post and thought you probably were spot on. Hope you get a couple more four-stars. I'm just speaking from experience at Northwestern. It's also interesting to observe the phenomenon, which often happens at Rivals, of a guy who is a three-star at Northwestern suddenly flipping to OSU or Michigan and becoming a four-star. I actually feel good about some of our three-stars at NU this year. We have a guy at DE that Harbag has been trying to flip to Michigan for the past several months. So far the kid has held firm.

You misspelled Hairbag.

We'll be ranked between 28-32th in the overall ranking by signing day. Taking into account that some teams have smaller recruiting classes right now I expect teams like Auburn, , Ol' Miss , Florida, Oregon, Texas, Iowa, North Carolina, Nebraska and Penn State to have better classes. This is 20 times much better than a Flood recruiting class. I am not dreaming like some fans and want to bring some of the fans back to reality just like I spoke about Flood class last year. Everyone should be happy since no one expected more from coach Ash. Most probably expected a class between 40-60th.
Nothing wrong with Dreaming and Wishing. Remember:" Wishes are the Dreams you Dream ,when you're awake".

I would be happy if Ash can just keep this class come signing day. The team has a very tough schedule ahead and if the record starts to mirror last year, there may be problems. However, I am hoping for the best.

Shameen Jones was given a 5.6 3* while Duggan and Hayek were given 2*, moving us up a smidge. On the whole I think Rivals rankings for our class are pretty much fair, but here's three names who I think should move up.

Johnathan Lewis - 5.6
Jonathan Taylor - 5.6
Jaohnne Duggan - 5.4

Duggan, Hayek, and Naijee Jones are our only 2* commits and I think Duggan has the best case to move up and be a 3*. Meanwhile of all our 3* commits, I feel Lewis and Taylor have the strongest cases for a 4th star. Melton and Vretman are closer at 5.7, but Lewis and Taylor have done really well for themselves of late. Taylor won the NJ 100 meter meet of champions as a junior which is very impressive, while Lewis impressed at the Elite 11 Finals.

-------------------------------------------
Rankings at this time are inaccurate. We're benefiting from having a lot of commits.
Let me know if we crack the top 30 in Feb signing date...

Given where your current total points on 247 (180) and how many committs you have I think the likely landing spot for this class ends up around 210 points which will be your best class since 2012 (219 points). 210 would have been #29 last year, and #31 the year before. So that my prediction for Feb 6th or whatever NSD is this year. Between #29 and #31.

They adjusted the points from the upgrades to 2 star and 3 star increases

The 2016 season will determine where we finish in recruiting. If Ash can coach UP the current roster we'll be fine. If we get blown out a few games and/or lose the last 3 or 4 we are toast, again.

I don't see it that way. These guys committed knowing that there is work to be done. We are coming off a 4-8 season.

Bo Melton is a high 4 star type talent. Whoever did his ranking is really not appreciating what this kid does. He dominates both offense and defense, is very technical in how he runs, catches and tackles, he is a high character kid and he comes from an athletic family.

The kid's name is Bo for crying out loud. That isn't your name unless you're a badass athlete.
With two former athletes as parents, a legacy kid, high character and one of the best players in south jersey in some time - he is easily one of the best recruits in the country .

Real glad he's with us.

16 is a bit misleading, but I'd rather be in that conversation than this one:

I don't care if it's a mirage of numbers....cracking the top ten even for a minute would be pretty dang cool. I don't remember that EVER happening even in 2012, or 2014 when we were on fire in the summer.

We are now up to #11, I don't see anyone upgraded over the weekend, what happened?
Wow I thought when they moved us up to 16 it was because of the adjusted ratings but I guess I was wrong. Incredible!

I agree. Ash is giving them a vision of how Rutgers can be in the Top 4-5 of the Big Ten. Two more classes like this one and we will be competitive or better than Penn State, Neb, Wisconsin, or Maryland. We need to be ranked around 23-33 next two years. The next question is can Ash actually coach which everyone believes he can?

Then the next question is when does Meyer and Harbough retire?

Ash, in his first full year of recruiting, is destroying the game. Wait until his vision starts to be seen on the field and the relationships he is building with the younger classes start to mature. Get used to recruiting well, fellas. The best part?

It's only going to get better.

I will remain cautiously optimistic regarding next year's results. I know that many on this board feel that this is a 3 or 4 year project, I say it is a two year project. Coach Ash will get a reprieve for 2016 regardless of record. In 2017 the bar will be much higher.

What would you expect to happen in year 2? His own recruits will be freshman and hardly able to impact the results enough. Our best recruiting class from 2012 will have graduated.. Even year 3 wouldn't be a 100% clear picture of what ash brings to the table since his guys will be Sophs.
Patience my friend

If we get adequate quarterback play, huge if, we can pull off a winning season. I always felt like one of the biggest things we lacked was physical size to compete with teams in The BIG10. From the looks of things, we now have the size to compete. If we can stay in games physically on defense and continue to run the ball well then we have a shot at a win.

While what you say is true there are other considerations one should take into account when grading coach Ash's performance. For starters, how about coaching up this year's Sophia/Junior's to a level where they might be competitive next year. If we are only to judge him solely on his recruits we'll be here for 4 or 5 years looking for a winning season.
