this week is a huge test for us and will ultimately show us where we stand against a solid G5 team. Cant come out slow this week as New Mexico scores in bunches. What do you think about this week and what are you looking for?

It's the truth. We could easily lose IMO. We are not talented enough to sleep walk through another 1st quarter. 24-0 and 14-0 last 2 weeks.

Gonna watch the UNM NMSU game tonight. i read earlier in the year that they were so-so up front

I like who we will become. Look for this week to be a step in the right direction. Continue to improve upon execution and performance

Where can you watch? YouTube?
I believe espn3 allows you to replay it if its not on youtube. I quite honestly havent checked yet though. But after the giants game I plan on doing that

I initially had a hunch that New Mexico wins by double-digits (1st half defense looked awful against an awful Howard squad, and I don't think Laviano should be starting anymore) but I will say this; I think NMS' win last night changes the complexion of our game a bit. Im now starting to see it as a game we sort of better win. NMS hasn't won more than 4 games in a season since 2004, and New Mexico is traveling like 2.5K miles to play here.

Big key to the game- d-ends and linebackers. The DE's were terrible with keeping the edge in the first half. If that happens again we could get toasted. I agree that this game goes a long way in defining this season and is an early litmus test for our staff. A poor or great performance here could reverberate; we need to take this one.

I have to be honest, after watching just the first few minutes of their game from last week I dont like our chances. The run a very legit read option with a qb who runs in the 4.6 range I would guess and he runs it well and a very shifty quick rb

What helps us is I think their D is worse than ours, but will our offense actually be able to take advantage of that?

You should have watched the 2nd half, they were a gassed, out of shape team, that was cramping up all over the field. And, played accordingly. Main reason NMS beat them.
But, I agree with a previous poster, our two DEnds MUST contain the outside! That is the key. Do that and we win by 10.

New Mexico will look at the film and be all smiles after looking at Howard's first possession. The RU DC will earn his stripes on Saturday.

Can not find a single New Mexico Lobos football connection (coach/staff, player, athletic director) to NJ and/or Rutgers. Is this a one-time money game? Did Lobos coach Bob Davie suggest the game? Does Rutgers basketball return the favor by playing at Albuquerque?

Not much love for RU in this one from our board posters.

The Wash and Howard games appear to have drained much of the enthusiasm from our fanbase.

Need a big effort with positive results vs NM going into the Iowa game.

Don't think I can stomach a loss to NM at home.

Other games of interest

FSU -3.5 Ville
PSU -9 Temple
USF -12.5 Cuse
Neb -3 Ore
ND -7.5 Mich St
Ohio St -2.5 Okla

My best bet is taking Colorado +19.5 against Michigan

We need to show up ready to play but we have more athleticism and size than these guys. The huge test will be on our LBers. Lots of motion and read option will put a strain on a very very inexperienced LB core. If we pressure a lot we'll be fine. Just need to peck away and wear them down with our depth in the 2nd half. But also need to show up to play in Q1, not like the 1st two games.

I wasn't expecting much this season at all but I was expecting us to look better than we have. I'm with you on that last point as well.

No offense, but what is a G5?

I agree we really have a huge talent gap compared to the opponents we play .

It would also help if a crowd shows up. Except for the student section the Howard game was a morgue.

South Dakota ,plays in the Missouri Vally Conf & they are simply awful
yet they hung 21pts on New Mexico
SD also had a runner run for 131 yds on NM

NM only passed for a paltry 180yds against a perfectly awful SD secondary
while SD passed for 130yds on NM

The ESPN power rating matchup predicter has RU at 73.8 and NM at 27.2
I think we will do just fine against UNM

I just can't see this game being too much of a problem. UNM just got embarrassed in a "rivalry" game, which might be an issue if we had to go there, but they have to come here. Can't see that emotion traveling more than 2,000 miles -- or overcoming the talent gap. UNM is better now than a few years ago, no doubt, but let them get untracked against somebody else.

Agree that this game will be a test and will say a lot about our season. I'm confident that we pass the test 31-17 but our starting QB will not be the QB that finishes the game.
