Rutgers at Michigan game thread

Breathing a big sigh of relief. In the end, they took care of business. Now, you can focus on the Terps.

RU wins 57-50 !

I was surprised to hear our pep band play the RU fight song at the end. We travel the band to the away games?

Hey... a road win is a road win. Playing down to your opponent's level is dangerous. I think that the word for oopnents is to take RU into deep water. At 5 minutes with 1 5 point lead I cringe because RU has to eat up clock and work half-court. They a run and gun team. Late in the game when you have to foul RU you know they will miss the FTs ( especially 1 and 1's) and give you a chance. Not winning tournament games like that.

A road win over an RPI top 50 opponent is more than just a win; last year RU didn't have any of those.

Not that I was worried, but I think this basically is the win that puts the team in the NCAAs. From now on, they're really playing for seeding.

Not pretty, but the team is learning out to close out games. And we have to remember that this is a coach who knows our team well (from her time with St. John's). Overall record is now 18-5, 9-3 in B1G, and a very impressive 10-1 on the road.

Now let's go get some turtle soup. :-)

Nope we don't travel. In fact the majority of us are currently getting ready for the ohio state game tonight for the men. We will be traveling for the B1G tourney and ncaa but that's it.

That is a very good win and an important one. I really didn't have a good feeling about this going into the game. Michigan had been playing pretty well of late and had defeated OSU plus Michigan State twice. So to win on the road was a good accomplishment. It puts us at 9-3 in the conference and, together with the win over Nebraska and several of the teams ahead of us losing games this week, it could help push us up a bit in the polls.

Nicely done, ladies!

Anyone know if they're heading directly to Maryland today? If they don't, they might not get there for Tuesday's game, given the predictions of an elongated weather event.

Real happy with Hollivay' defense today, She shut down Goree soon as Rachel got into the game. Rachel also rebounded well today.

We have made it an art form to surrender big leads but to grit it out at the end.

I was happy to see many of Michigan's shots rim out towards the end, but they sure can hit their foul shots.

After the game the announcer said Michigan was sloppy and kept giving the ball to Rutgers. Funny, people still have to realize that it was Rutgers who forced the turnovers. The big reason teams are missing so many shots is because our defense got into their heads.....some of those threes were hoisted up too quickly.

Still, Michigan is a dangerous team, could have been a different result if their post didn't pick up four fouls or if they made a few of those threes.

I mentioned the word "turnovers" several times today so I won't comment.......have to be positive.

Rachel did a good job swatting shots and rebounding even after picking up an early third. In fact I don't recall seeing much of Ariel or Christa in the second half.

Ugly win but our ladies are demonstrating their athleticism and dribbling skills. Copper made two highlight film plays.

I was glad to see an off-Tyler hit a critical late jumper!!

Finally, it appeared that some of you were getting results a couple of minutes before those of us on BTN plus did. Interesting.

Ugly, good win!!

Again they gutted it out. Not a great shooting night for anyone. Scafe MUST limit her turnovers and STOP trying to pass on a jump. She gets in the air and has no where to pass the ball.

Give credit to the other coach, good game plan. And, no she doesn't have Stringer's number.
Did anyone notice the larger bandage on Laney's hand. Not a good sign. Has the burse now moved up to her wrist?

A Knight can kill a turtle any day............

That's a really impressive line. keep closing out the games ladies! nice win..

If you believe in RPI, maybe we won because we played up to our opponent's level. Going into the game, Michigan was at 39 and RU at 41. That will be reversed tomorrow.

That said, any ranking system that has UConn at #8 is inherently flawed IMO.

Hope Laney is OK she seemed to fall hard on her back and was stretching it out prior to her free-throws...

Something that I've been very impressed with over the past two games is how Rachel has played once she gets her 2nd or 3rd foul. You could tell CVS wanted to take her out in the 1st half against Nebraska when she got her 2nd, but Rachel told the sidelines--"I got this"--and she did. Today she got her 3rd foul and never got another--26 minutes she got 4pts, 7 rebounds, 4 blocks. We need at least 25min from Rachel every game, and it seems like she's learning how to keep herself in the game.

Another good win for us! Rachel's defense really is pretty great. I'm not expecting big offensive games from her, but whenever she's in the game, we're a different team on the defensive end... she's a shot-blocking machine! I'm truly surprised she only logged 4 blocks today - it seemed like double that.

On to Maryland... We can do this! I don't think playing on the road fazes us at all this year.

Good road win .Moving forward the performance of Scaife is a big concern. In this game Rutgers only had two double digit scorers .Laney and Copper.Against Maryland the lack of scoring will result in a ugly loss because they like to roll up the score and that certainly will be the case against rival Rutgers.

Felt the same nervousness about this game as I mentioned in the prediction thread.

The team is headed directly to a Maryland from Michigan. They actually may be there by now.

yes and Im not going to get on this team for blowing the lead...tough game on the road against a tough team and coach, Ill just take the win anyway we can get it. I didn't have a great feeling about this game coming off our poor offensive performance vs Nebby

Still Scaife needs to get back on track, shes been off 4 of the last 5 games and Cantys non production is a concern as well

Actually saw Tasha Pointer at Thomas Sweets tonight, or at the very least someone who looked exactly like her.

She was on leave because she had a baby. I don't know when she's coming back.
