Rutgers baseball coaching search: 11 potential candidates, including an early favorite

this should be NJ field not just RUTGERS field With events there during the year. Used for HS championship, Camps all year around and tons of other stuff to get the kids there
I wouldn't want it as an NJ field as that would be controlled by the state, and they do such a great job running things. No reason, though, a Rutgers field couldn't be used for other events besides RU games.

Nebraska - 4203

This goes beyond baseball, but Nebraska seems to get big attendance for virtually all their sports. Ever seen their sold out arena for woman's volleyball on the B1G Channel ? Of course football is a huge generator of revenue, but these other sports get turnouts that minimize their need for subsidies.
Nebraska has exactly one pro sports team, the Omaha Golden Spikes a Triple A affiliate. You want to see sports above the high school level, your options outside of the University of Nebraska-Lincoln are nearly nonexistent.

Imagine If Rutgers was the only option in the State of NJ. The Giants, Jets, Knicks, Nets, Mets and Yankees all played in Albany or the Adirondacks. The Sixers, Eagles and Phillies all played in Pittsburgh. Every minor league team moved out of state by at least 100 miles except the Trenton Thunder. What do you think Rutgers attendance would look like across the board?

This also helps Nebraska.

I'm watching the Regional game with Duke playing at Vandy. Vandy is loaded and won 50 some games this year. Do you know what their facilities are like?
Their baseball stadium is right up against their football stadium and their basketball arena.

I tried to find their softball field but couldn't. That's because they don't have Softball as a sport.
Their 9 Women's sports are: Basketball, Bowling, Cross Country, Golf, Lacrosse, Soccer, Swimming, Tennis and Track & Field.
They only have 6 Men's sports. Football, Baseball, Basketball, Cross Country, Tennis and Golf.
We have 9 Men's sports and 13 Women's sports.
There are many Universities that don't have the # of teams we have and they don't have the expense of having to pay for those facilities and scholarships.
Unless folks start giving, Rutgers may have to look to cut 3-4 sport within the next 5-6 years. Seeing how painful it was to go from 30 to 22, will be even more interesting to see how we go from 22 to 19 or so.

IMHO, outside of football, basketball and possibly baseball I doubt there would be much of a difference.

It is beyond absurd that a state with NINE MILLION people does not have a TV station.

It is opinion, but not improbable.

I’d say “highly doubtful.” We would have done it by now. Which, obviously, is opinion as well but I just don’t understand what would make you come out and make a statement as such In the first place.

With B1G checks coming soon, that with some winning in football and basketball will help move to highly doubtful. But do need alll three to converge quickly.

Again until you hear something factual this conversation is a non-starter my friend. Actually, as has been discussed elsewhere, look for RU to POSSIBLY AADD women’s wrestling in a few years.

With Big Ten revenue increasing every year and many sports improving and positioning themselves to increase revenue thru tickets sales and with athletic donations increasing and all of that to improve when football gets resolved, I think we will add sports.

No need to add sports.

The weather is freaking horrible in the Northeast in the winter and spring. Any decent high school player with options is crazy to stay in the Northeast for college .
Michigan’s team this year is an outlier, maybe once a decade one Northern team make some noise at the College World Series .

Build a nice stadium, but with this awful weather, nobody is coming to watch for the majority of the season .

IMO, Hobbs should make modest improvements like Stadium seating behind home plate, a small press box and lights for the few nights late in the season it’s warm enough to play at night.

Same for Softball .
Need a stadium that is comparable with the others in the Big Ten. They face similar or worse weather issues

No need to add sports.

Disagree. Women’s wrestling would be a very cheap addition and could potentially be a championship caliber sport, almost immediately, in Piscataway. IF the SKWC gets behind a push for this don’t be surprised IF it happens

Until other Big10 schools add Women's Wrestling , I doubt RU is going to add it. Right now NO other Big 10 schools have a women's wrestling team, as far as I can tell. U Michigan at Dearborn has one, not sure of their affiliation with U Michigan Ann Arbor.

But personally , I'd like to see it. NJ has some good female wrestlers. Princeton Coach Ayers daughter won a NJ State Championship this year. His wife seems to be a big proponent behind women's wrestling. There is girl at Phillipsburg, Jewels Gonzalez, who was a phenom at this years tourney, with a big upside. I hope it keeps growing.

I would bring back men’s swimming first We are already paying for a coaching staff and a facility.

OR we could add men’s hockey and have the best funded women’s wrestling program in the country to meet the Title 9 rules !!!

No we should NOT cut sports. Hire good coaches and win at the existing sports. Examples: women’s rowing, softball and field hockey are sports that we were poor in until we made good hires and now we are successful. Hobbs is continuing on this path thankfully.

Never will happen. Hockey is insanely expensive. Women’s Wrestling a very low percentage possibility in the very distant future.

Off campus club sports possibly, funded Big 10 sports, forget about it.

Abro, there will be Rutgers Hockey at some point in the future. We will likely start out playing at either Trenton or Newark. Currently, we are putting 50 New Jerseyans into the Division 1 level. I don’t know when we will start a program, but it will happen.

We will never have a B1G hockey team.

This is ridiculous. Won't happen any time soon nor should it.

Hockey won't happen until someone drops an 8 figure donation to fund it. Don't hold your breath.

Mdk, agree we will need major donations. As I have said before, I hope Pat Hobbs has preliminary plans in place once the money is available, whether it is three years from now or fifteen.

Outside of volleyball (will never happen) what are we cutting?
Why can't we cut volleyball? That seems to be a top candidate (perennial loser) along with Mens Cross Country and maybe Mens Golf. All non-impactful sports in attracting money to university.

Title IX?
