The message is that we need to improve OOC schedule. We also did not do well enough against the best teams in our conference, which overall was not highly regarded by the committee.

I'm actually shocked. I thought they had it locked up after the 3 wins in the B1G tournament.

I guess when you mix a very weak OOC schedule, losing 2 of 3 to both MD and Michigan at the end of the year and two horrible losses, it was too much to overcome for the committee. I think they should have gotten in, but I'm guessing that was the rationale. It sucks.

An absolute farce. An equal farce is the Big Ten not having a representative on the committee. Athletic leadership continues to be a joke, not that I’d ever expect anyone at conference headquarters to do anything to benefit or support Rutgers.

you can be sure that if Ohio State or Michigan was snubbed, they would be very vocal

I looked at the list of teams that made it. Only five Rutgers opponents in the field, three of them only becuase they won their conference tournament. Strength of schedule killed us

I understand a 1 game B1G Championship was established years ago but the logic still makes no sense to me. Going undefeated prior to that provides no reward once the Championship game arrives. I'm not complaining and I know we can't change the format but someone should reconsider this process.

Grand Canyon someone wrote beat Stanford. Think we have win as good as that? Also beat Texas Tech.

A Farce
Rutgers is first in NCAA runs per game, finished second in the Big Ten, played in the final, and lost one tournament game.

The ACC (ESPN Property) got (9) teams into the NCAA tournament.
Really?

Florida State (33-23; 15-15 conference) bowed out early in their tournament and was mediocre in their own conference. See the other mediocre teams in the ACC Conference that got at-large bids below:

Big Ten basketball got 9 teams in. Better baseball conference. Runs per game? Scored 24 runs versus a horrible Iona team. My point is people probably think Big Ten bb did not deserve 9 bids.

Agreed, the ACC is a better baseball conference, but wins and losses on a field should count more than RPI Rankings.

It seems like the selection committee took the at-large teams from the RPI Rankings order.

Rutgers RPI was 42 on May 29, 2022.

The Big Ten need representation on the selection committee.

It took a few years of success to get Lacrosse over the hump, looks like it’s the same for baseball.

Maybe playing Miami early in the season is not such a bad idea after all? Fred Hill regularly scheduled tough OOC slates and took his chances with his overall W/L once he got into conference play.

While this team set records I don’t think it was better than some Hill’s best squads. Not saying Owens approach at this juncture of his program building is wrong, but I am sure even he would admit to those in his circle that the roster still needs a lot of work.

Playing better competition and establishing the ability to win some of those games should help recruiting.

They won their league championship just like St.Peters in mens basketball.

This is innacurare. They didn’t win. . They were on the bubble like us and got in. Their OOC schedule was much better. 4 top 10 wins by them were the difference

Rutgers was 1-3 vs the top 50, 8-8 overall vs the Top 100, and 26-7 against 101-300. This gave the southern leaning committee all they needed to keep them out.

I was expecting Rutgers to get in, and am disappointed that they didn't. I think they deserved it, and if Michigan hadn't stolen the auto-bid, they would have been in.

But it was no accident that a team with that record rarely appeared in the national rankings, and in the end, was not picked. It's not safe to play such an anemic schedule when it's known beforehand that the conference schedule is not going to impress anybody either.

I almost feel like it hurt them to score twenty runs against schools nobody had every heard of so often. It somehow highlighted the level of schedule, and was definitely noticed.

I'm really sad and surprised that they didn't slip in, though...

So much promise coming into the weekend only to end up with so much disappointment. Most wins in team history, 2nd in P5 standings and tourney … deserved to be in the top 64.

Once I saw Baseball America had RU as last four in, I knew RU was in trouble.

Thought the WSoccer, Lacrosse, WLacrosse, MBB, and Field Hockey success got us over the benefit of the doubt hump.

Screwed over by Michigan again.

Just in case I overdid my blabbing about the out-of-conference schedule: I was sure that Rutgers would be in the tournament as a 3-seed somewhere, and feel pretty badly that they aren't. They deserved it, but the B1G is not a league that gets a lot of respect in baseball...

So Grand Canyon is more worthy than us? If our name were anything but what it is, we would easily have gotten in. There is something wrong in the state of Denmark.

Rutgers baseball is the new lacrosse. Keep winning and their time will come. Great season but their strength of schedule doomed them.
