Rutgers Baseball vs Bowling Green

Michigan does not have much pitching (although the bullpen is like a clown car, they keep pulling out different guys). Rutgers batting order is going to be a nightmare for them next weekend...

ETA: I don't meant to insult them by calling them clowns. Hopefully you know what I meant...

Amazing -- this dude Wood came in, threw one pitch which was a three-run home run, and another pitching change!

There’s a guy on this board who might otherwise tell you to never underestimate an opponent . This poster has an issue extensive background in his family history of playing and coaching . In the case of Michigan , this may not be their best team in awhile but , I wouldn’t exactly use the term “ clown car” regarding pitching. We just need to focus and play solid team baseball. We need to win no less than 2 of 3 and see if Maryland can lose 1 or 2 in their last two series matchups.

Clown car meaning there are 800 different guys in the bullpen...

With Maryland starting piching and their home run hitters I don't see them losing another game prior to the BIG Ten Tournament.Rutgers losing two out of three to Maryland at home was a crushing blow for winning the regular season championship. The good news is that they will get a NCAA bid and hopefully a high seed.

Well if we win out then let the chips lie where they may. Finish regular season out strong . St.Joe’s and Michigan. Getting over 40 wins is a great season. Can’t wait to see us back in the regionals.

Was hoping Michigan pulled an upset … gave UMD a scare in one game … the last 40 years following RU makes me think UM takes 2 of 3 … hope I am wrong and RU sweeps them to finish co-B1G champs.

Based on what I've seen, RUTrack, Rutgers batters will not have problems scoring runs. Michigan has a pretty good offense too, though. Good luck...

No I’ll disagree since in my 72 years both playing and coaching I’ve never heard a hot hitting team say, “ let’s not play we don’t want to mess up our positioning .” I’m trying to understand your thinking here . We play St.Joe’s which will try and beat us as did Seton Hall, Princeton with their best on the mound. Rutgers could rest some starters and use some other players not normally playing much. Next weekend will not be easy. We need no less than 2 of the 3 and hope the Terps lose 1 or better yet 2. Otherwise an unexpected great season for this Rutgers club. What is story with Santa Maria’s injury?
I get what you are saying. I’m rather old school about sports as well.

But RPI matters. Teams regularly cancel games to protect it. For instance, Maryland has reached number 10, which is just unheard of. Even in 2014 and 2015, back to back region championship seasons, I doubt they got any higher than 30. If the season ended today they would host a regional. But if they play James Madison tomorrow, which is on the schedule, they will drop many spots even with a 20 to 0 win. Cancelling it could preserve a historic season and has to be considered in today’s world, where metrics besides W-L are extremely important.

As a Maryland fan, I hope they don't play tomorrow for these reasons, even though it seems crappy to cancel out on another team. This is big time athletics, and being a number one seed, and hosting a regional, is huge.

Like Maryland, Rutgers has a triple-digit strength of schedule hanging around their neck like an albatross for other programs and post-season decision-makers to use to minimalize success and degrade their NCAA tournament seeding. That's partly the result of playing in a weak conference. But regardless, playing a horrible team a third time would have exacerbated that. I suspect that the third game could have been played, and it wasn't Bowling Green's decision not to.

Well the Terps swept Michigan, so we’re tied with them for first. We have to think about sweeping UM on the road, if we want a share of the Big Ten championship. It’s still in our own destiny. Getting the 1 seed tho would need some help from UMD losing

That’s why some believe RPI’s can be misleading . For a team like Maryland having defeated some 40 opponents or Rutgers with 39 wins should not drop 20 spots in RPI because they play and beat a lesser opponent? The system is screwed up and always has been.

Yes, RPI is garbage in my opinion, but since it's used, it should be a consideration...

With your super-potent offense, the scoreboard in Ann Arbor is going to blow a fuse. They can score runs too, but I think your team should win that series...

Feeling well I see. Kind of surprised you don't have Michigan sweeping us.

I guess I know nothing about RPI. Terps improved to 9 after playing James Madison. Although sometimes it takes a while for RPI to update. It actually looks like what happened is Miami lost and dropped two slots.

I realize that you guys don't care, but I feel obligated to correct my apparent mis-statements...

I was going to post this yesterday for your perusal. Listening to Texas A&M game when announcers made comment on the RPI and why cancelling lower rated teams ( weaker opponents) was not a good thing. They based it upon the fact scheduling is tough enough in today’s world and that it doesn’t prevent you from staying put or dropping more in those stupid ratings. In other words just play the teams on your schedule regardless . If nothing else your bench players can get some needed work .

I will probably stop thinking about RPI so much. Just play the games...

Maryland manager agrees with you, Bob...

Hoping RU wins the last 2 and my prediction is wrong. The way RU played last night, my prediction might be wrong and Michigan gets a sweep.

Still think RU steals one of the 2 and finishes in a 3-way tie for 2nd.

Well … Michigan came alive in 2019 and won it all … their backs were against the wall, they were playing at home, and had a lot to play for.

I would have felt better if Maryland lost one to Michigan, but Maryland swept Michigan and RU has a shot at being swept.

Guess RU played the weaker B1G teams early to build the lead in the standings. If RU gets swept and finishes 4th, it will feel like the old RU.

If RU loses today and doesn’t win any games in the B1G tourney, would RU be left out of the NCAAs?

We ‘re Rutgers and anything is possible. 3-4 weeks ago I called out the fact our frontline pitching was going to hurt us. Once again we are a very good team against a certain level of opponent. We are not what we could be with several stud starters and real quality pitching depth. In a great season like this it shows that the prognosticators were right on who were the B1G favorites. At this time we are still behind the top 30-40 clubs in the pitching department.Where is Bobby Brownlie when you need him?
