Rutgers Baseball

2008;
Apparently you didn't notice the expensive scoreboard upgrade from last year. After the new coat of paint on the RAC walls,we had some money left over so we changed VISITORS to GUEST.

If Rutgers is going to have an ancient scoreboard (and baseball scoreboards are probably among the last items on Julie's list of future upgrades) it would be really cool to have donors put up enough cash to build a manual scoreboard like at Wrigley and Fenway.

In comparison...

Husker, I swear you guys could add lacrosse and in five years, you would be selling out a 15,000 lacrosse stadium with luxury boxes and have a waiting list of 3,000 --LOL ---I saw a Cornhuskers baseball game a week or so ago and the weather looked great. We were still getting snow here last night. I really wish the NCAA would wake up and push the start of college baseball back to about April 12-15,but the Southern schools will fight it like crazy.

Baseball draws pretty good crowds. There were over 15,000 for the Florida Gulf Coast series, 14,988 for the Texas series, and last night had 7300 for Creighton game. If the weather is even half decent they draw 4000. I went to the Texas series and it was pretty chilly Friday night but the other 2 were ok. It is 82 here today.

I doubt the NCAA ever does anything with the baseball time frame. Teams just go South and play for a month. NU has a heated field so that the grass is at least green early. Ha. I also doubt it would take 5 years to get a lacrosse following. Hockey would be added first though and it would have a huge following.

In response to Heaven's original post, it is great seeing those B1G logos on the outfield wall!

Baseball doesn't make money, and we've got so many things to upgrade. And despite all those amazing stadiums that have been posted, do you really think RU baseball could pull those crowds with all the Minor league and major league teams around?Scoreboard at Bainton could use an update though.

Sir Knight,
Everytime I see that ballpark in Bridgewater,it just drives me crazy. To have a stadium like that so close, but yet not close enough. I wonder, though,if the NCAA ever was to move the season back, would we play games there ? I don't know about weeknight games, but weekend games in late April,May,June and maybe early July might bring people in. I also don't know if the Somerset Patriots have an exclusive lease right now.

If we need a temporary "B1G venue" for some of these games, why can't Rutgers negotiate with the Somerset County Patriots to schedule some Scarlet Knights/Patriots doubleheader days. Ticket sales can be negotiated AND you might even entice a few Patriot fans to come to Piscataway for Rutgers games.

Congrats on being that guy Brad.

College baseball will always, always be owned by the southern tier states...period! again, geography wins...it always does!

April 26th will be played there. Rutgers vs. Seton Hall. I think Rutgers needs to do a better job of getting RU students to care about non-revenue sports before we're ever going to truly expand baseball wise.

Got a suggestion. Put up a flat screen by the College Avenue bus stop and have R vision put a camera on a live sports event. Some might take the time to go watch if they realized events were going on when they have some down time. Put the screen in a safety box or even hang it inside the students centers (already TVs in there) or cafeterias. Awareness may help some.

I like the R-Vision thing, that's a fantastic idea! Lets make it happen! Not sure about putting new ones in, we can barely maintain those bus stops as it is, the weather shelters are falling apart, but tuning the in-center ones to R-Vision sports is a great idea.

The new screen which is supposed to be with the new dorms should be tuned to that too.

Throw a dart and any school in the B1G will have better facilities than we have, outside of football. And those are in the bottom half.

Playing a bunch of also rans in the Big East the last 20 years did not prepare us for the B1G. It is going to take a lot of money and effort to get our programs up to snuff across the board.

Bainton Field is perfect for tailgating in the outfield (from your car !) a mere few feet away from the outfield fence, and it's about a 10 -20 ft small hill above the outfield fence, so great sight lines of the field and Scoreboard (And the Scoreboard is fine.). And Free ! lol. Also our infield seats (with backs !) are very close to the field directly behind home plate and 3rd base.

RU is 3-3 in league play , tied for 7th in a 13 team conference.

I caught about four innings of the Ohio State game this past Sunday. My first time at Bainton Field. I thought the field/facilities were nice however I haven't seen what other schools have so i can't compare.

exactly and until Bob Mulcahy arrived the thinking was small time in RU athletics. If it wasnt for the NJ Nets coming to NJ, we would probably still be playing in the Barn.

Baseball does not make money at RU, because it has never ever ever been promoted, and has always been free.
