As most of you know, the Rutgers baseball program is off to an excellent start to their season as they are 5-1 on the season. One key reason for their early success is their offense. In the big Ten, RU leads the conference in batting with a .348 team-BA. The next closest is Michigan State with a .306. They are also second in slugging percentage while only have two home runs (second lowest behind Penn State).
Rutgers also has three players in the Top 5 in hitting in the Big Ten Conference. Catcher Nick Cimillo leads the conference in OPS with a 1.487.
Rutgers defense is also the ranked #1 in the Big Ten Conference. As a team, they have a .986 fielding percentage and have only committed three errors which is less than any other Big Ten.
Even the pitching staff has been solid for the Scarlet Knights. RU has a 4.75 team-ERA which is fourth best in the conference. Their opponent batting is a .241 which is also fourth best in the Big Ten. RU has walked less batters than any other team in the conference with 20. The next lowest is Maryland with 22. Hartford graduate transfer RHP Nathan Florence has the fifth lowest ERA in the Big Ten with a 1.13 ERa. He is also tied for twelfth in the conference is strikeouts with 13.
