Basketball Rutgers Basketball F Oskar Palmquist enters transfer portal

I was a little surprised to see Oskar in the portal. Thought he'd finally carved out his role. Good luck, Loyal Son.

no. We need a 3rd string center and it is doubtful we find better
Dean. Is not. A Center. I’m sure you realize that right? He doesn’t bang, gets out positioned for rebounds. He has to FRONT centers on defense which invariably lead to lob dunks. He’s a stretch 4 who just hasn’t developed for whatever reason.

He could surprise if he lands at the right place. Coaching staff always liked his athleticism and shooting ability, and apparently he played much better In practice, but never put it all together when it mattered. A new less intense venue could allow him to blossom.

I realize we both had opposite views on Dean coming in to the season. One of us was not right.

I also realize the head coach played Dean 95% of the time as center last year.

Maybe Pike and I are wrong and you are right

He played “center” out of necessity when he went in for Cliff until Wolf developed and then HE played center. Dean got his lunch stolen when he tried to play down low. When he did play, it was more of a stretch 4, we played without a “center” for no other options. He played outside the paint. Face it, everyone thought Dean would develop. He didn’t. Doesn’t make anyone wrong.

I mean, you said Dean would be the starting 4. You were about as wrong as wrong gets

He's not a 4 either. He's a tweener. Could play the 5 at a lower level but outmatched in the B1G

No you were wrong and I was right. Don’t try to rewrite this. I can go back to the archives if you would like.

I think everyone needs to temper expectations at center when it comes to portal. If cliff returns we will not add a center. You don’t get backups in the portal that are any good. We don’t need another Agee you roll with cliff and Woolfolk who many here proclaimed a future impact player already.

Your depth pieces are your new recruits or existing recruits that aren’t developed enough to be starters. Good players don’t transfer to be backups.

This is why you want to focus on replacing leaving starters when it comes to portal and upgrading your team.

If Dean leaves we definitely need a big man, but we aren't getting anyone good unless Cliff leaves bc we have no minutes to offer

Can't just have Cliff and Wolf. If one gets hurt we are screwed

Riebers not a center anyway so like I said I’d rather not add a center and just add a modern 4 or 3/4 and roll the dice which is what we did this year.

Someone gets hurt we’re screwed anyway (especially Cliff, stating the obvious) I’d rather switch our style up with better quality players at other positions and play small in that scenario.

This is also where moving on from Paul provides a bigger benefit in reconstructing the roster. Conceivably we could offer this position a lot more minutes than a backup 4/5.

Thank you, Oskar! -You always gave your all in supporting the team, whether you were seeing minutes or not.

And when you did come in during the latter part of this season, you provided some major, timely baskets.

You will be missed, and even though you might be finishing out your college career with another team, you'll always be a Scarlet Knight, and I wish you the very best whatever your future career path holds.

Why do we need a third string center? Who is Kansas State's third center? Who is FAU's third center?

Huskies totally doing what they want with Gonzaga. They're just out-toughing them on both ends of the court.

100% spot on. If Dean is willing to stay, we should be happy to keep him here because there are some match ups where he can play 5 if needed. He’s better than Agee was. If Cliff returns, we will not find someone better than Agee to play behind Cliff and Wolf. No way.

In contrast to the other discussion where Hyatt is a completely different story. His spot can be replaced in a variety of ways through portal or frosh (wouldn’t have to be sold as 3rd string) or even just playing smaller 1-4 in some situations.
