Rutgers Basketball Metamorphosing Into a Dominant Program

Arrested Development Taking Notes GIF by HULU

Been happening for a number of years. Are you taking notice?
I think the word "dominant" is a stretch. Maybe something like "nationally recognized" or "consistent top 25 program" would be better.
The past three seasons we have a .590 winning percentage and a grand total of one
tournament win. Far from dominate.
A dominant team has a string of single digit loss seasons. Our last one was over 40 years ago. In the same time period Duke has had about 30 of them.

“Dominant” lol

Come on. Stop.

To those paying attention RU is probably now considered “good” “a hard out” “a pain in the ass” ;)

And I’ll take that!!

It’s a far cry from “laughing stock” “doormat” “automatic w” … which we were in the very recent past

It could still be another 10 to 15 years or more, IF it ("dominant program") ever even comes to fruition.

It'll be a long process and some signs are pointing in that direction which started a couple years ago while other challenges to getting there remain, but can hopefully be overcome.

Enjoy the ride, we deserve it.

Of course everyone sees 3 consecutive NCAA appearances (yes I count the cancellation year)
But you are the epitome of don’t get to high when you win or to low when you lose.
Certainly it applies to players and shows up as bipolar in fans.
We have a game tomorrow night and we’re being led by two seasoned experienced, excellent players.
Let’s win

RU basketball is another season or two away from being deemed "established ", which means the program is able to cycle through multiple recruiting classes/players and consistently winning games they are supposed to win.

I know it also sounds crazy, but a NCAA caliber program in the B1G wins 30% of its in conference road games and wins 80% or more of their home games. It is not a walk in the park that "everyone else does this", because not everyone else does.

OP is saying we are on the path there, not that we are currently dominant. I agree. This stretch becoming more recognized, recruiting improving, culture building, arena expansion, the “sleeping giant” of being a winning Big Ten program in the NYC market will awaken. St. John’s type reign with multiple final fours etc. we always said could happen someday, could be coming in the next decade if we stay on this trajectory

need to win on the road. i don't understand why we are not better on the road, defense is supposed to travel. problem seems we shoot poorly on the road. to be dominate need to be 500 on road and almost perfect at home.

Not dominant but pretty solid. Let’s see how we perform on the road. So far 0-2 against average teams like temple and Miami.

Agree except Miami isn’t average. They are a likely tournament team and bought some very good players this past offseason. That loss will age well.

Agreed. Many posters showing reading comprehension issues with their responses

With Griffiths coming and potentially Harper plus another stud after that, the path continues in the right direction. A Harper super class could take it to the next level

fact is - any use of the word "dominant" is just silly at this point as it applies to RU.

let's check back in a decade and see where we are - as only programs with a PROLONGED and CONSISTENT pattern of VERY HIGH LEVEL SUCCESS over a VERY LONG TIME can be considered "dominant"

I am quite happy how this program has progressed but use of the term "dominant" at this point (even to address the future) is beyond silly. the OP is either a troll or clueless.

There is a clear path to dominance. If Dylan commits and leads to a super class of studs, we likely become a dominate team with Simpson and Griffiths already in the fold.

In that scenario, we would have had sustained success for years with Dylan and company bringing it to the next level. An established successful coach. Elite home court. At that point selling future studs on Rutgers just gets even easier.

The path is clearly there whether you want to see it or not. Is it a guarantee we get there? Of course not. Is it silly to think this path is possible? Of course not. It's in the realistic range of outcomes though

I admire your optimism, Scangg. But landing a few big-time recruits is no guarantee of success, let alone of dominance.

Take our friends from Indiana as an example. They have landed a 5-star guard/wing in almost every year for about the last 5 years, but that hasn't really gotten them over the mediocrity hump. Granted, their coaching before Woodson was suspect, and I would have more confidence in Pike to develop the players within his system better than IU's previous coach. But there are so many variables in recruiting and building a program that not even landing Griffith and Dylan would guarantee us any sort of station in the conference.

Not looking to be a Debbie Downer here, just being realistic.

I hope everything you say comes true.

I think perhaps we have a different bar for what constitutes "dominant"

I never said anything about a guarantee. I said it's in the range of outcomes so discussing it isn't silly

I will admit that I have more faith in Pike than others so I would probably put the chances at a higher probably than others. It's not the most likely outcome but it is certainly possible.

If there was ever going to be a path, it's these coming years that are the best chance
