Rutgers Encourages fans to enter stadium by 7:30(Anyone not in their seats tonight by 7:30 will miss things everyone else will be talking about later)

Had Navy season tickets for 3 years during the Malcom Perry years '17 to '19. As long as there was no rain or bad winds you got the Navy Leap Frogs parachute team and a fly over every game. So was always in the stadium in time for pregame. Bonus was as a season ticket holders you could scan you ticket at half time and re-enter the stadium for the 2nd half!. During the Scarlet/White Bus days never made it in for the kick off at Rutgers being a big group host.
I remember when Rutgers used to parachute in the game ball, until a rather”round” jumper broke his ankle landing at mid field (iirc he did not fumble 😉). It delayed the start a bit until they carted him off.

thats my thoughts as well, we have been waiting 15 years for a night like this, make the most of it. Plenty of time to tailgate all day long if you want, especially for those who are retired. I took the day off along w/ the rest of our crew and plan to be there by 3PM for 4.5 hours of tailgating
I'm the only one in my group who is retired and folks can't get to the yellow lot until 5-6 pm this Friday (and I won't be there until 7 pm, coming up from your hometown), so not much time to tailgate and folks will want to use as much of that as they can. Zero interest in pre-game warm-ups and our crew prefers the music I play over what's in the stadium pre-game, so no real reason to go in very early. As always, we'll be there before the team comes out.

I’d offer you a ride up but I’m leaving too early for you lol. Also have to stop at my mother in laws (Mrs Patti’s some called her) to do some stuff

Yeah, took some bargaining to just get to the game, lol, but thanks. Will also be driving back down to OC after the game. Let's hope we both enjoy the game!

If we miss the horse entrance the day is ruined for my wife. I think I’ve heard the story how she took care of the previous horse while at Cook a hundred times.
That’s a doozy of a euphemism alright: took care of a horse a hundred times. And how many horses and times before that ? Shelby couldn’t bring himself to marry someone with that illicit past. Missus Shelby would pass out just from hearing about that kind of behavior.

Even if you don't care about fireworks, the band, the horse, team entrance or anything else (Note- I don't care about seeing any of that) - how do people attend a game and just willingly miss the beginning of the game?

I get how good a tailgate is.
But isn't seeing the game #1 priority?
We always get in early just because I don't want to miss the game. Or have to watch the game on my phone while trying to get into the stadium (did this for Nebraska night game).

Note: we are also the people who want to be at the airport 2.5 hours before boarding.
Maybe there is a correlation?

As a former band member, I wish the stands were packed at least 15 minutes before kickoff. The stadium wouldn't have the same energy at kickoff and team entrance if all fans showed up five minutes before, assuming they could even all get in the gate quickly if they arrived at the same time. Thinking way back to the A-10 final vs. Penn State in 1989, the RAC was rocking WAY before tipoff with a jam-packed house. I bet the team would feel more juiced if the stands were crowded before they even go into the locker room after warm-ups.

What does maximizing a tailgate actually mean?

For us it usually means we were not able to get together as early as we’d like . So we spend more time

the RAC and bball games are a different beast. The game is only 2 hours instead of 3.5-4 hours. And virtually no tailgate scene for bball. And as we know .. the RAC is one of the best venues for college bball so I feel like the fans take pride in upholding that reputation on gameday

Either way, there’s nothing better than a big game atmosphere when everyone is there ready to rock before the start. The buzz becomes palpable

It’s a shame that Rutgers has to ask fans to pry themselves away from their tailgating to be in the stadium long before kickoff.
If they did then they couldn't complain about waiting till the last minute then waiting in line, missing the kickoff and more.

“The definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results.”

It’s interesting that in some cases parking passes cost more than tickets. Tailgating is fun too.

Shelby thinks lots of fans prefer an extra half hour of tailgating to waiting on long entry lines.

After kickoff entry is much faster.

So by that logic walking into a movie 15 or more minutes after it starts is fine?

If you're going to wait and miss part of the game that's on you, not RU, so don't come here and whine.

Are you maybe. tailgating with some friends and family that you haven’t seen in a while outside the movie theater ?

The first 15 minutes of a movie might have an interesting plot line . Same with football …it might not . Sometimes it comes down to the end and that’s all that matters

Simple. Then don't complain but we know come Saturday there will be the usual moaning and whining like every other home game.

Yes, the RAC is different than a football ggame. VT gets their stadium packed for their entrance. I doubt Ohio State has a ton of people missing the dotting of the I in Ohio. Clemson is packed and rocking when the Tigers touch Howard's Rock and come running down the hill. I'm sure I could go on.

We have an array of empty seats in the middle of the first quarter.

Ironically, the only time I wasn't in the stadium as the players are stretching was Kevin's very first start in 2007. He had just moved off campus, left the tickets and parking pass at his townhouse. We get them and hit some traffic. We get just a couple of miles from the stadium when it opens up a little and we are hearing on the radio players are coming out of the tunnel. I start driving like a mad man- in and out of traffic, etc. And get pulled over.
Cop started out reading me the riot act when my wife just blurts- just give us the ticket, it's my son's first start and we are going to miss it. He literally gave us an escort to the parking lot and we did get in before kickoff.

My two cents....I'll be attending the game with a group of guys I might see two or three times a year. We all have jobs, so we won't even get to the lot until about 5:45. I have told them that I'd like to be in line by 7:30, and all agreed, but if we don't make it because we're busy having a great time, then we don't. Personal relationships are way more important than Rutgers football. Again, just my two cents.

Who’s blaming RU ? Or whining. It seems to Ol Shelby that the people whining are those who don’t think other fans should come into SHI late, not those who actually do come in late. Don’t judge others according to your own preferences.

I'm judging those who wait till the last minute then blame Rutgers.

Are there delays up at the Dome?

Don’t recall. Shelby’s only time there was for a Rutgers win about 20 years ago, give or take. At Shelby’s age, decades and details run together so he doesn’t know what year it was, the score, entrance delays, etc.

Agreed. I was blown away down at VT that almost all 66,000 fans were in the stands for the anthem, long before the team came into the field.
Yeah and at one point they all dated their cousins, just a different mindset 😉. In all seriousness I wish we could get folks in seats earlier too but I don’t think it will happen often in our hustle bustle area of the country.

Is there an app for the light up Piscataway thing? Or just use the cell phone light?
