The January 7, 1881 Rutgers Targum mentioned, “Through the kindness of Mr. Loney of Princeton, we expect to obtain our foot-balls for next year from England. The American balls we have been using are inferior and more expensive in comparison with English balls.” The online Princeton football records listed Francis Loney as team captain in 1880.
