Fantastic article about the fantastic crowd and the players and Greg gushing about the crowd.

“Let me start by thanking our students,” he said. “That was special. In warmups they were out there and they were getting after it early. That’s a legitimate Big Ten home advantage, that’s what that was tonight. At times, you couldn’t hear yourself think. Believe me, that has an effect."

“You could feel it in that stadium tonight,” Schiano said. “That’s what Big Ten football is, and that’s what I want for New Jersey – that’s what I’ve always wanted for New Jersey, is to have that in our state. I grew up here, I played in this state, high school football, and it was always somewhere else, right? But I want this to be a place that New Jerseyans can be proud of. Tonight was a good step.”

In the end, Washington flew 2,900 miles home with a loss and a ringing in their ears. Rutgers fans took the cannoli.

45,000 is off. Each upper deck only seats 5000. Plus there are a couple thousand people on the concourse at all times. There were at least 50,000 people in that stadium last night.
Yeah, 50k in attendance seems likely. This was supposedly the biggest crowd (54,070) since the 2022 Penn State crowd (55,676).

I realize that refers to ticket sales and not attendance. But there certainly didn't appear to be 10,000 empty seats.

This was a B1G time production last night all around. A big-time college game experience with our own NJ/NYC flair thrown in.

I just wish everyone watching on TV got to see all the extras those of us who were there saw last night.

My guess is that the 4 and 5 got transposed accidentally in typing up the article (announced attendance of 54,079, so rounding it off would make sense in an "opinion" type of article).

Regardless, Jerry did a good job highlighting what went on last night. Anyone who missed it, missed out on quite the show.

I hope that everyone at home got to hear "Rutgers fans let's give a warm New Jersey welcome to Washington Huskies" And the absolute deluge of BOOS that followed it. Classic NJ

GREAT article. Totally captured the essence of the evening.

And, yes, 45,000 is about right. From where I sit on the 50 in the upper deck I could see the lower bowl was completely full & a good portion of the upper as well. The corners & very top of the upper deck were wide open.
The concourse was filled too most of the game

I know a few in my group could not get their tickets to load, just kept spinning so they let them in anyway. That’s a few unaccounted for lol

We walked from 129 to visitor side to see the band performance with 4 minutes left in the second quarter. There were students 15 to 20 deep and it wasn’t easy navigating the crowd. The visitor side also had lots of people in the concourse and standing behind the 100s. This is one time I don’t doubt the attendance. Now most of those students in the back weren’t watching the game, but they were there.

I also learned that they shuttle the coaches back and forth to the booths. Being on the home side, I never knew that. Now I know where to boo them. Kidding!

There was something wrong with the app. Happen to us as well. We transferred two tickets to tailgate crew(they got them) but all 6 stayed in our wallet. We couldn't get two of our tickets to scan. Guy looked at us and said, just go. So they must have been having some problems.

There had to be right around 50K or more there. Anyone saying less was sitting at home. It was the best atmosphere I've been a part of in a decade.

I’ll never understand why people don’t download all their tix to their wallet as soon as they are available prior to the first game.

Rutgers actually made an announcement after the Scarlet walk letting people know that Apple did some kind of an upgrade yesterday and that tickets were dropped out of everybody's Apple wallet. They said that everybody needed to do the upgrade on their phone to get the tickets back. I was a happy Android user yesterday

Even then you might still have problems. Last year I missed most of the first quarter of the home opener because the ticket scanner couldn't scan some of my tickets for some reason. The same thing happened to another group shortly after mine. We had to stand there and wait for a manager to come over. I requested paper tickets for the rest of the season and did the same for this season so we don't have to worry about that happening again. Even aside from the people who have to fumble around with apps, screen brightness, etc, the paper tickets also usually seem to scan faster even if you do everything correctly, I will always maintain that entry would be quicker if everyone still had paper tickets.

“The whole night was a celebration of the state, from Rutgers’ marching band spelling out “Exit 9” with green headlamps at halftime…”

Anyone have a pic of this?

Here's a scoreboard image of Exit 9...

Why must people bring nyc into this? Screw nyc. It is the University of NEW JERSEY. A good thread derailed. NYC flair? PLEEEEEEEZE.

Have android phone tickets in my wallet seems my ticket want "tap" need to show bar code to scan at entrance....is it normal?

Agree.

I've been attending games since 1968 when I was 4 yrs old, and have only missed a handful of home games since becoming a STH in 1994. It was the best... and, honestly, there is no close second.
The best was the Penn State game in 2014. That was a solid 55k at that game and Rutgers was in control until Allen Robinson caught a pass and went like 70 yards and RU lost late. That was the best atmosphere I have seen except Louisville 06

Just a note: if you transfer tickets you have already downloaded to your wallet, to someone else, the tickets in your wallet are not automatically deleted. They are no longer valid but it’s up to you to delete them from your wallet

iPhone user here.

No issue and I didn't need to do anything extra.
