Football Rutgers Football lands Ohio transfer OL Shedrick Rhodes Jr.

As far as I’m concerned, Sutton saved the season. We would’ve been headed down a similar path when Tyler went down as years past when our line got depleted. Reggie stepped in and kept us afloat. Of course he isn’t 100% in comparison to what he was before his injury but he was the best we had, by far. And even with this addition he will play a ton. For the first time ever, I feel like we could possibly field an above average line. It may not be - could be squarely average, but just the possibility of it being “good” and the high likelihood of it not being awful is fantastic.
Sutton also did something else that is just as important...Over the last 2 years, he was almost acting as a defacto Coach. And what he most likely picked up being in that position, rather than playing all the time, was time to really study how all the positions of the OL have to play together.
So, having him in there at 70% may have been better than who ever would have replaced him physically, but his knowledge of the OL only helped make everyone else better.

WOW, only here can a post that should be happy with the addition of another quality player turn into a shitfest on one of the most loyal and hard working players in the program! Ninety-five % of you on here don't know your ass from a hole in the ground when it comes to judging talent! I guess your stupid comments on Wimstatt are wearing thin so let's see if we can shit on someone else. No wonder most of you are on here all day nobody probably wants to be around you.
Right back at you

I remember Sutton struggling mightily in pass protection vs. State Penn last Fall. But then I remembered that most teams struggled in pass protection vs. Pedd State.
It was also noticeable in the later part of the season where the grind was taking its toll on him and he was walking back to the line after a play where he limped like me just getting out of bed in the morning.
This kid played his heart out and way too many snaps.

Yes. And we would have struggled a lot more if he wasn't out there. I'm really curious how good a player Needham is. We just didn't get much of a look at him unfortunately.

agree- team would have been worse if he wasn't in there pain and all.

Tackles are dancing bears. If a guy can't cut it at tackle, they move him to guard to cover up his lateral movement. It's a lot easier to drive (front line power) than to catch while maintaining power. Centers, they only put the smart guys there. 😁

I know a couple of Centers the rest of the OL would debate about who was smarter. loololol

This was my point- all OL need mobility. And believe me- no way a OG needs more mobility that a OT. The OG really needs a center of balance to go with the mobility that he has. And why you usually see the under 6ft4 guys move inside. But most OT's can move inside if needed or when they go from College to the NFL. Zuttah and even AD are perfect examples. Zuttah could play anywhere and was just a freak of athletic ability and maybe more confidence than most skill players. lol Even in the RU locker-room- he was super respected but he had the ability to piss off a lot of defensive players. in a good competitive way. But while he was a stud OT in college, he was moved first to OG and then to C in the NFL.

But you will almost NEVER see a college OG moved to OT in the pros.

Didn’t realize that Rhodes was from Ohio U…

As if my opinion matters here (which never will), Rhodes should be AOK here at Rutgers as his OL Coach at Ohio is a pretty good one in Allen Rudolph.
