There are five sports venues that Rutgers football has been played at between 1869 and 2015 that directly or indirectly derived their names from four United States Presidents. Who are the Presidents? Bonus points if you can name the sports venue.

Answers will be provided on the Monday holiday. Happy Valentine's Day and Presidents Day to all.

Stay warm!

So do games played in LINCOLN, Neb., or MADISON, Wisc., or Seattle, WASHINGTON count. Or Does the actual venue need to be named for a President?

Assuming it is the venue, so far I have Madison Sq Garden, Lincoln Financial Field, and Ford Stadium (SMU). [Correction in edit: SMU's stadium is named after donor Gerald J Ford, not President Gerald R Ford.]

I don't think Rutgers ever played at JFK Stadium (especially after the venue was renamed after Kennedy). Taylor Stadium and Ford Field (Detroit) were not named after presidents.

Grant Field was named for Hugh Inman Grant, son of a wealthy Atlanta Merchant John W. Grant.

The question is for sports venues only.

Hint: Rutgers played at one of the venues in 1883.

Roosevelt Stadium, Jersey City; Gerald Ford Stadium, Dallas (SMU); Lincoln Financial Field, Philadelphia; and Madison Stadium, JMU, Harrisonburg, VA.

Posted and didn't see Source's hint so I missed at least 1.

I would hope Source didn't include Lincoln Financial Field. Named after a company that uses a Lincoln logo. That's a stretch.

Was Roosevelt Stadium ever used for college football?

Can't find any record of football played at Roosevelt Stadium. Only baseball and high school football.

Back the the drawing board for this teaser. Damn good trivia question Source.

Never would have gotten this one without the hint.

Washington Park, Brooklyn, 1883. Yale squeezed by RU 92-0.

The 80-7 loss to WVU in 2001 doesn't seem as bad. Could have been worse; we gave up 59 in the first half.

RU went 1-6 that year. Would say Fire the coach!, but according to Wikipedia, there was no coach from 1869-90. Eight straight years without a winning record until William A. Reynolds took over and had an 8-6 record in 1891.

I'll post the answer in the early afternoon.

If it makes anyone feel better, Yale was selected as 1883 National Champions by the National Championship Foundation (1869-2000), Billingsley Report (1869-2006), Parke Davis (1869-1933) and Helms Athletic Foundation (1883-1982). They were also selected the year before and the year after, in addition to other years to come.

Their 97-0 victory was surpassed on October 25, 1884 when Yale defeated Dartmouth 113-0. Rutgers vs. Yale in 1883 was the first intercollegiate football game ever held in Brooklyn. The venue was also home that year to the Brooklyn Base Ball Club last seen playing under the name "Los Angeles Dodgers."

Answer: George Washington, James Madison, William Henry Harrison, Abraham Lincoln:

11-6-1883 Yale 97 Rutgers 0 -- Brooklyn, NY -- Washington Park ( I )

(the first home of the Brooklyn Base Ball Club, later known as the Brooklyn Grays/Trolley Dodgers/Dodgers and today as the Los Angeles Dodgers; a Revolutionary War battle took place close to the site and the Park was named for George Washington)

1-19-1889 Pennsylvania 10 Rutgers 0 -- New York, NY -- Madison Square Garden ( I )

(Named for President James Madison; a square is a group of buildings like Herald Square or Times Square in New York; and the 1st of 4 MSGs really did have a garden in the mid-19th century)

12-13-1890 Pennsylvania 20 Rutgers 12 -- New York, NY -- Madison Square Garden ( II )

11-30-1899 Knickerbocker AC 11 Rutgers 0 -- New York, NY -- Madison Square Garden ( II )

11-12-1910 Washington College 6 Rutgers 5 -- Chestertown, MD -- Washington Field (named after the college that is named for George Washington)

10-30-1915 Rutgers 44 Springfield 13 -- Harrison, NJ -- Harrison Park

(Harrison Park was also known as Peppers Park and Federal League Park home of Newark Peppers of the Federal League in 1915. Harrison, NJ took its name from William Henry Harrison the same year Harrison was elected President in 1840. By the time Rutgers played there again in 1919, the venue was known as Harrison Field that is named after the town that is named after the President)

11-22-1919 Rutgers 28 Northwestern 0 -- Harrison, NJ -- Harrison Field

10-25-2003 Rutgers 30 Temple 14 -- Philadelphia, PA -- Lincoln Financial Field
(Lincoln Financial Field is named for the Lincoln Financial Group that goes back to 1905 as the Lincoln National Life Insurance Company; Robert Todd Lincoln provided permission for the company to use his father's image on stationary and in advertising to convey a company image of integrity)

10-20-2012 (#19/#17) Rutgers 35 Temple 10 -- Philadelphia, PA -- Lincoln Financial Field

And there you have it! Happy President's Day everybody! Hope your holiday is a good one.

Just for fun... Rutgers opponents named for United States Presidents:

Jefferson Medical (today’s Thomas Jefferson University of Philadelphia)
Washington College
Washington & Lee
Washington & Jefferson
George Washington
Washington State
and in 2016 the University of Washington

And since everyone from George Washington to Barack Obama gets the lion's share of publicity on this day.... let's not forget a shout-out to those "other" Presidents who didn't get their names on the stationary from 1774-1788. Thanks:

Peyton "Manning" Randolph
Henry "Stuck In The" Middleton "With You"
Peyton Randolph
"Big" John Hancock
Henry "Tell" Laurens "I Love Her"
John "Blue" Jay
Samuel "In The" Huntington
Thomas "Don't I Get A Portrait" McKean
John "Dancin'" Hanson
Elias "Alias" Boudinot
Thomas "Midas" Mifflin
Richard Henry "Sara" Lee
John Hancock
Nathaniel "I'm Gonna" Gorham
"Port" Arthur St. Clair
and "Miley" Cyrus Griffin

Sorry you guys never got put on money or got nuclear suitcases or stuff. At least Hancock got an insurance company out of it.
