Rutgers has to play on the road in the ACC Challenge again (@ Pitt)

Sh*t rolls down hill. We have no stature. We are an afterthought. We have no one In the Big Ten offices, no one on national selection committees, hardly any NJ folks officiating games, hardly anyone in the sports media, etc, etc. No one going to bat for the Scarlet Knights.

Pitt fans are already counting this as a gimme W and “yawn “ game for them on their rivals board . Had to go set them straight on the state of our program . Unfortunately people think we are the same old Rutgers and don’t pay attention . Have a lot more to prove

I normally would worry about what a fanbase thinks, except in this instance, the Pete will be probably half empty and uninterested in RU unless we roll in undefeated at this particular time.

I know people think the B1G isn't going to do RU favors, but playing Pitt at the RAC is a win and does little to build the confidence of winning on the road. I would have loved an OOC slate of South Carolina (Toronto), at Pitt and home for Seton Hall. Winning 2 of these 3 or all 3 is a path towards the post season and we should treat Pitt as a game that has players in some spots that are comparable or equal to what RU has.

I don't know but a Top 70 team on the road against a Top 85-90 team, probably has the home team as a slight favorite.

Don't discount the ACC Network here as a factor with ESPN with 6 games on at the same time, that would be 2 ESPN, 2 ESPN 2 and 2 on ESPNU for the 6 games that day....It would not shock me but this game and a couple of others within this challenge, has ACC Network written all over it.

Hobbs must like the Schiano schedule approach. Pathetic strategy to approach the season.

Nope. All the games will be on ESPN, ESPN2 or ESPNU.

If we have 18 or 19 wins and are on the bubble and miss out on the dance, maybe Pike and Hobbs will admit non conf schedule matters. However, given all he’s said on scheduling, Pike will say again we play in best conference and we have 20 opportunities for good wins....
Unfortunately we will prob need 11 Conf Wins to even have a bubble chance

Hope it doesn’t happen, but it could be a lesson learned...

Maryland is a preseason top 15 team, but got a home game against a team that was 14-19 last year. Nobody did them any favors, either, by giving them a game like that.

It's not always a conspiracy or a case of the league dissing Rutgers...

This is garbage.

Louisville will be home 2 straight years.
Boston College will be home 2 straight years.
Maryland will be home 2 straight years.
Penn State will be home 2 straight years.

Rutgers will be away 2 straight years.
Virginia will be away 2 straight years.
Nebraska will be away 2 straight years.

Who makes these decisions?

They could have had Boston College at RU and Northwestern at Pitt. This makes absolutely no sense to me.

Satan?

It's a Quad 1/2 game, depending on how they do this season. Not terrible. Would be a Quad 2/3 game if we played at home.

True. Since it’s one of the worst teams in the ACC, you almost don’t even want this game at home. The problem is the team more than the venue. This year’s goal has to be to reach the postseason more than to rack up meaningless wins.

Pitt will be better than they were and it will not be an easy game...we will get more credit for playing this game on the road. Its a must win

Agreed and there is no such thing as an easy road game against an ACC opponent.

One less OOC home game to watch against a decent opponent. Since 2014, Rutgers has alternated home-away for this Challenge. Although the OOC home schedule is not finalized, no ACC or Big East team for the Gavitt Games coming in means 1 good school, Seton Hall at home.

The difference between a Pitt win on the road vs. home is not going to put Rutgers over the NCAA hump. The OOC schedule will only hurt the school's chances if the team loses some games and not help with wins. The only path to the Tournament is Major damage to In Conference schools and a Strong Big Ten Conference this year.

The OOC schedule critics are amusing as they forget the amount of league games our conference plays. It is a non factor. Having said that we certainly deserve a home game over a bad Pitt team. Again B1G does us no favors.

What bull. The good news is if we win, we might get more credit as far as the NET than if it's at home.
on the road it has a chance to be a quad 1 game so I'm not that mad. We could really use another p5 opponent badly

This might not be a terrible thing. This is a possible Q1, yet very winnable, game that will give us road experience early in the season

Probably quad 2 because it is away and not ranked in top 75. If it was home could have been quad 3 depending on how their team plays. Lol

On the other hand, Notre Dame did have a huge early-season injury. I've read some prognostications that have the Irish doing well this year, and I've always been a fan of Coach Brey. So maybe I'm selling this game short...

They are projected at 83 by Bart Torvik... just a little better and they sneak into top 75 and that becomes huge for us if we can pull off the road win

Why do we keep getting the shaft? We played @ Clemson, home with Wake Forest, @ Miami, Home with Florida State, @ Miami again and @ Pitt now.

That will make 4 of 6 years we are on the road and now 2 years in a row on the road. We also had to play Miami twice and both were on the road. How do we keep getting the short end of the stick? The BIG should be sticking up for us but it doesn't appear as if they are.
This is the first year we have gotten the shaft. The alternating home/away format was totally fair.

People thought we got the shaft previously by repeating opponents within 3 years, etc. Not just road/home

Pitt added a grad transfer PF Eric Hamilton from UNC-Greensboro.....he's a former Wichita State recruit under Gregg Marshall who just didn't find room on their roster....

https://pittsburgh.rivals.com/news/hamilton-looks-for-a-new-role-at-pitt

Pitt has 4 2019 incoming recruits including 2 kids who had mild or significant interest from RU.....Karim Coulibaly a 6'9" lefty PF and Justin Champagne, a 6'5 swingman from Brooklyn.

In 2018 frosh combo guard, Xavier Johnson was Pitt's best player and comps very well with Ron Harper and Montez Mathis. Trey McGowens is another freshman guard who can score. He's not a burner but solid defensive player who can score.

This game and Pitt, looks like a mirror image of the rebuild here at Rutgers. I would have to find out more because the attached article mentions some injuries to some other roster pieces, but my guess is Pitt may try and add some depth with another grad transfer or 2019 kid.

I think the one player RU needs to control is Xavier Johnson.....his recruitment probably cost Tim Miles at Nebraska his job this past year. He was a signed commitment and asked out of his commitment with Nebraska, once Capel was hired last spring. He's a Top 150 kid from North Carolina.

If Johnson was on Nebraska last year, they probably have the depth at Nebraska to overcome the injuries and he's explosive like Mathis and attacks the basket very well. He's also a plus defender. Nebraska probably wins 2 to 3 more games of Johnson stayed in Lincoln and they probably dance.....then who knows if Hoiberg is hired and Miles is axed.

This is the type of game we should be looking for as a road game, if fans believe this is an automatic W, it will be a good challenge for RU. I like that it's in early December vs mid-November....a few more games under our belts should prepare RU for this matchup.

Road games aren't easy in any league as seen in Rutgers past experience in the Atlantic 10,Big East ,AAC and now the B1G.Winning on the road is very important in getting post season invitations.Defeating Pitt shouldn't be more challenging than defeating lower tier B1G teams on the road.

My guess is that whoever negotiates this for the Big Ten uses us to get Ohio State or Michigan extra home games. And I would guess, since we hosed Wake.. that Wake gets the shaft over on the ACC side.

Mike Brey will come to College Park, out coach Mark Turgeon, and probably leave with a win in what could be a job interview game.

I love it when Turgeon comes up. You will inevitably drag him
I don't want you to get spoiled so...

I like Turgeon. Great guy. He's won a lot of games at Maryland. If I had to guess he probably has a .650 winning percentage.

I don't believe he has beaten more than two teams that were ranked higher than Maryland. He is a good collector of talent but they haven't been past the S16.

He coached his ass off in the 2014-15 season. Amazing job considering that 5 guys transferred after the previous season and he had a freshman point guard.

Talk is cheap. Let’s beat the crap out of them in Pittsburgh.

It doesn’t really matter. RU is going to be so unreal without EO on the team that they should adopt the mantra: anyone, anytime, anywhere. Just think how good the defense will be.
