Rutgers-Iowa Game Thread

If RU loses the rest of its games this year, will you guys consider this a good first season for Pikiell? Is the bar just being not as much of a catastrophe as Jordan?
Depends on how bad we lose. Last year we got blown out, and I mean BLOWN out in many, many games. Almost all B1G games. Lost to some bad teams in the OOC too.
This year, we have 0 bad losses. Won every game we should have. Lost all the ones we "should" have. However, we have been in so many more games it's not even funny. @SHU. @Mia. @Iowa, @Indiana, @UMD. All of these games we had leads in the second half! @Wisc we had it within 9 with a few mins to go. And of course the Garden. So, yes this season is already at least 100% more successful. If we can bounce back from this loss I will continue to believe that Steve Pikiell will lead us to the NCAAs at some point in the near future.

most teams are in games, RU is 1-9 headed to maybe 3-15 or worse. Two of the most disappointing games of the season were two games against questionable competition in Penn State and Iowa. Losing those games is indication of just how truly far we are away from accomplishing anything

We all know our shooting struggles, but these missed layups/point blank shots are just as bad. Doorson did it today and I've seen Sa do it where they grab the rebound and bring it below their shoulder, allowing the defense to regroup, before going up with the ball. On the other hand, Gettys sometimes does the opposite where he tries to tip the ball a lot. I don't mind that as much, but I just wish he made them more, obviously.

At the half, I was watching our layup line...Half the "layups" were dunks. I know it's a warmup and maybe it's cuz I'll never be nearly as tall, but given we rarely dunk anyway, I'd like to see them lay it up instead of dunking it. Makes we wonder whether some of our big guys know how to do a running layup.

This lost was BAD. Last year we didn't have any front court players and we beat the one team that was beatable. We just got smoked by the beatable team w/o their starting point guard By 20 points.

It shows what he is capable of, and he is a good coach. If we gave him the facilities to work with I have little doubt he could make us a top 20 team. He might be able to do that anyway, but it is harder to do when we're competing with schools with arenas and practice facilities that are high end. We are in such fertile recruiting area that if Pike lands a few guys ( we already have the #81 national recruit committed next year), we can turn things around.

It isn't hard to create a buzz at RU if we win some games. And if we become relevant, with the new money coming in in a few years more northeast guys will opt to stay home. In basketball that will put us in position to be top 20 to top 10. Pike has that kind of ability as a coach, he just needs the horses.

Jok is or was the leading Big 10 scorer so yeah this was a telling loss getting blown out at home by them when they hadnt won on the road...and our other stinky egg was against a beatable Penn State. So in games where we had shots at winning, we are 1-2 with maybe 5 possible winnable games left and two of those on the road.

he needs more than a few guys, he needs 3 classes back to back with two top 100 players in each and 2 more top 200 players...thats 12 players, he only has ONE legit player now...and he has a 4 star center who may not get here until 2018 and lets not go crazy with Baker just yet. Pike can coach but he is going to have to deliver at a higher recruit level starting now

It'll be telling the next game. I like his post game presser. He needs to stop babying these guys. Needs to tell Freeman he is not Lebron so no more turnaround fadeaway jumpers. He should also tell Johnson that there is a reason why teams are leaving you open behind the 3 point line. Williams needs to stop driving the ball into 2 defenders and throw up a crazy shot. What drives me nuts is that this team is not that bad.

I disagree .This team lacks shooters at every position which is the reason why the team has only 1 league win. There ranking in almost every offensive category is abysmal with scores over 300.

Geezus, I wish we had players that can shoot.

Watching Iowa dudes square up with confidence and a sweet stroke makes me envious.

We are like Rocky. Dumb as nails with no talent. But we try really hard.
Only thing we have in common with Rocky is the "R".
