Rutgers is a host site for the NWCA Div 1 National Championship Dual Series

Probably end up with someone we always wrestle like Lehigh ... Really needed to beat UW ... Need to upset UM to have a chance for someone exciting ... 6th in conference won't get us someone exciting

6th? We still got Indian and Purdue. We wrestle like that and we will be lucky to finish 6th. We are very fortunate that they made the announcement early otherwise we may not be hosting anything.

That's not true. While the criteria are that the "Top 8 Big Ten teams" host, the other 6 Big Ten teams all had have scheduling conflicts, so the 8 that are hosting were all guaranteed to host. That is why you don't see Illinois as a host site. The "announcement" is a little disingenuous in that way...as far as I know, they have known for some time that we were hosting.

Based on the matchup criteria, we would face #25 Chatanooga out of the Southern conference.

Here is the criteria sheet. Pairings have to be set on or before February 14. As of today, the true pairings would be:

#1 PSU vs. #2 NC State (ACC) for the NWCA Dual Championship
#2 Iowa vs. #4 Oklahoma State (B12)
#8 Michigan vs. #5 Mizzou (MAC)
#9 OSU vs. #6 Lehigh (EIWA)
#11 Nebraska vs. #22 Stanford (Pac 12)
#12 Rutgers vs. #25 Chatanooga (Southern)
#13 Illinois not participating
#20 Indiana vs. #NR Winner of EWL
#21 Minnesota vs. Wildcard

I didn't actually check all of the conference standings for the above. I just assumed the highest ranked team from each conference was the conference leader. The true criteria is that the 7 non-Big Ten teams are the winners of the 7 other conferences (dual meet champion), in the order of their national ranking. So, for example, if #15 Cornell is ahead of Lehigh in the EIWA standings, they would be the representative of the EIWA.

, So for it to be the 14th, they could wait until next weeks duals to happen. Also, they have as a "guiding principle" to minimize travel costs. It is unclear how much they will upset the oder above to accomodate travel. They also don't apparently account for teams saying "no"

I see. so my 1 question is that we will not move no matter what we do the next week? For example if we lose both or something crazy and minn wins 2. Will we host against the wildcard?
Or are we locked in to that slot.

It seems like they have some leeway, but as of the 2/9 poll, the Big Ten teams are in the same order, except indiana is out of the top 25 and purdue is in, and Illinois jumped ahead of us. Since neither of those teams are particpating, it should have no impact. Its interesting that they announced the sites early...in one of the only weeks purdue wasn't included I believe.

The only changes to the above from the most recent poll are that CSU Bakersfield replaced Stanford as the only top 25 Pac 12 team. I checked the Southern Conference standings, and Appalachian State is in 1st place, so it would seem they will rep that conference, not Chatanooga. I cannot find standings for the B12, Pac 12 or the EWL. Its amazing that most conferences do not have standings posted. The NWCA site is also a disaster it sends you to 2014 results.

Also, we don't necessarily know where the wildcard team fits in. I suppose they could use that to shuffle things around.

Ole Cabbagehead---

Big12-is Ok State
EWL-Edinboro
Pac12-is still up in the air, looks like Cal State Bakersfield has the inside track
Southern Conference-it is a 3 way tie for first, the Conference has to break the tie to see who goes.
Mac-Mizzu
ACC-winner of Nc State vs Va Tech(Friday night)
Eiwa-Lehigh
Wild card will be interesting-Oklahoma is in the lead, but if Va Tech beats NC State, then NC State goes into the wild card pool(and they have Mizz still left).

Awesome... how did you find the dual standings? I went to all the conference websites and really came up empty.

Also, for the Southern, they have App State at #1, because there is a 3 way tie in conference at 5-1, but app state is 10-3 overall, which is best.

What is this tournament? How is it different from the one being held at MSG? Are both separate national championships? Can someone explain it to me please

The one at MSG is how wrestling determines the NCAA wrestling individual and team national titles. MSG is an individual tournament that you have to qualify for.
NCWA-National Duals-is a little misleading...think of it as a bowl game. They take the top 8 Big10 schools and the 7 conference champs plus a wildcard and match them up based on rankings. It is just one match(like a bowl game).. Last year they had a tournament for the Dual champ that was much better, but a lot of the teams(Penn State) do not want to go thru a tournament that close to Nationals.
