Rutgers Nationally Ranked In Some (Good) Categories

I know we're fans - and we WANT to find the "silver lining" in everything - but unfortunately these stats have come against one of the weakest schedules in the nation to date:

Norfolk State 1-3 (220th Sagarin)
Kansas 0-3 (124th)
Washington State 2-1 with a loss to Portland State (91st)
Penn State 3-1 (51st)

...we are 90th in the nation and have played the 137th most difficult schedule (according to Mr. Sagarin).

But Indiana is 4-0 . . . . . .

There is little use sometimes in pointing out anything good about our team since it will be pointed out that, in some context, there is nothing to be glad about. My take on things: We can only play the opponents on our schedule.

Those defensive stats are going to take a pounding in Oct. The rush stats are kind of a joke. If you look at Yards Per Rush,RU has the highest yielded of any team (by far) on the 50 team list.

Yes, they are, but I'm pretty sure we haven't played them yet! Let me check I may have passed out!
Yeah, and some have them as worldbeaters after playing a bunch of cupcakes (except for WKU). Can't have it both ways, but when some folks want a narrative, they will only look at things one way. BTW, this is not intended to mean you. Peace.

It's all good I have no problem with posters being critical of my comments. That's a part of "message board" life!

The problem with IU, btw, is we have to face a QB who will likely be able to pick apart our D. That's the major concern here Shift.

Indiana has to be a surprise at 4-0, but they are! Only the FIU game was by more than one score (+14) with the others by 1, 3 and 7. But, they won all of them which is what counts the most. The overall record of those four schools is 8-7. It will certainly get a lot tougher for them but they only need two more wins to go to a bowl.
For what it is worth, our two wins are against teams with a collective record of 1-6.

The next six games (before Army) have us against a collective record of 20-4 with three undefeated. Michigan could have very well been undefeated too with the exception of their close loss in the opener to Utah who is undefeated. Absolutely brutal stretch. Stats are what they are, for now.

Preparing to blow my brains out at our culture, as though those who can see the negative feel the need to enlighten the rest of us, as though we aren't aware of it. It's like Janarion's skills warrant no appreciation because (fill in the reason).

JG is the best return man in the nation, hands-down, and is only going to get better and better.

The reason we're so great with 3rd and 4th down defense is that we keep getting beaten on 1st and 2nd down thus limiting our 3rd and 4th downs.

Getting back to the original post, the stats are interesting, but we are in an unusual situation. Our defensive backfield is learning the ropes - it's like they are back in camp. The running YPC stat is the result of two long runs by Penn State. Our schedule is also becoming more challenging in the next few weeks. The whole situation is fascinating, and that's not even taking into account the loss of our best offensive and defensive player and the suspension of our head coach. I hope that we can keep things competitive with MSU and OSU - that would say a lot about our team. We need to leverage our home schedule to disrupt the visitors.

Brotha', you complain - incessantly - about certain aspects of our athletic program, so com'on now, lol!

Those things are obvious areas of complaint. Not sure a few feel good stats about team play are an area I would look at to start b*tching about.

This is a joke right? He is very good but there's a reason he doesn't have great games against teams with even decent special teams... See the whole 2nd half of last year and the pen state game this year

This is a silly post. It was clear that PSU was fearful of Grant and did a great job of scheming and limiting his touches. It also helped that their kicker could put the ball where he wanted and their punter had crazy hang time on every punt. If anything it reflects on how good Grant is. To draw the opposite conclusion is ridiculous.

Grant actually looked better toward the end of the year last year.
You just used the PSU game- come on! Dion Sanders and Desmond Howard wouldn't have returned any of those kicks.

He was a true frosh last year. At this moment, with 3 return TD's, he's the best in the business.

I wasn't "bitching." I was simply pointing out the facts about our schedule to date. There's a major difference and the reason I felt compelled to point it out is that I don't want posters having false hope going into that actually difficult part of our schedule.
