Football Rutgers opens as 1.5pt underdogs versus Illinois

Illinois comes in at #24 … another huge chance to get a monkey off our back, longest active losing streak in the nation against ranked teams (40 games) .. next closest is Nebraska or Auburn at like 25 games … pathetic

Biggest game of the season thus far. A win would be huge for perception

Interesting analysis of Illinois and their losses--to #1 Oregon (38-9); #4 Penn State (21-7) and Minnesota (25-17):

Only common opponents before we play them are Minnesota (advantage Rutgers) and Nebraska (advantage Illinois).

Frankly, based on the records, I was expecting a 5 point advantage for Illinois in spite of it being a road game (they are # 24}. If we play like the last 2 games, we have a real chance to knock off a ranked team. AK playing his best college ball right now and having a strong receiver group plus hopefully KM at 95+ and if the D can bring it in spite of the injuries , we have a chance. I have a good feeling that we win this. The stadium should be rocking.

I think a win will do a lot of great things, but I don’t think beating Illinois (ranked in the 20s) does a whole lot for changing perception.

We basically failed nearly all our opportunities for perception changers this year. Lost to Neb, Wisc and USC. Any of those games would’ve singled something.

I think the win vs Washington was the bigger one if you compare vs Illinois .

Either way. Getting a win would be huge Sat.
We would break the horrific streak of losses to ranked teams. We would win 3 in a row in conference
And it would massively help our bowl pecking order.

But I don’t think it’s a meaningful perception changer at all. We gotta beat some brands names
