Rutgers staff out recruiting

Not sure who is visiting. I'm also sure they are working the phones, text and social media trying to capitalize on the good showing in the B1G tourney. He is listed as a 6'4 PG, 2019 recruit.

Tough player. Lots to like about Kyle, but I am not sure he'll go to a school as far north as Rutgers.

Were there any recruits at the Garden the last three days to see Rutgers play so incredibly?
I believe that you can only invite kids to games when you are the home team. So if there were any recruits at the Garden it's because they bought a ticket.

I would tend to agree until players get here and see the diversity of the area and student body etc....most times those decisions are kinda made before getting to RU etc...and lots of NY/NJ transplants are all over Georgia and the ATL area in last decade or so.

I think there was more to it that's been posted by others closer to things than folks here that it can't be all about mixed tapes....most of the targets are grounded/team focused and less about themselves/views etc...I think Georgetown is able to provide that aspect closer to home, where if he doesn't play well right out of the gate, it will be less of an issue....

Sturdivant has a complete, well rounded game that isn't reliant on athleticism and transition play....he is just as explosive as anyone, but makes great decisions with the play in front of him and gets others involved in the play.....RU would be lucky to land that type of player as the 2019 class gets focused on.

Russ- any update on Scottie Lewis and Bryan antoine?
Nothing has changed that I am aware of.

I still one hundred percent believe that Lewis is headed to Florida I'm not sure where Antoine will land.

It is much difficult, though not impossible, for a non-elite northern program to pull a kid out of the South if that kid has offers from major programs in the South. Now if the Northern School has some special tie to the kid that can change things.

Sometimes it's even difficult for elite programs in the north to do it.

Yup. It's a bidding process just like for the NCAA's. RU use to outbid ECCC every year for the Eastern Regional at Continental.
You’re saying that Rutgers was part of a bidding process to have the Big Ten Tournament for men’s basketball at MSG? That cannot possibly be right. If it was like in 1985 when the A-10 was searching for a suitable venue and we hosted the men’s tournament I could see it but not something like the Big Ten at MSG in 2018. All talk of RU being the “host” school I assumed was unofficial.

Hear Antoine is a Duke lean

Also hear UCLA is in the mix for Lewis along with Nova

Seton Hall was host school for the Eastern Region many years. Those tickets were always included when I held season tickets for the Hall in the mid 80's.

Sounds like you are talking about the NCAA tournament. Each site has a host School. The host schools sports information director and his or her staff works the event. And I do mean work.

I have covered NCAA tournament first and second round (officially now a second and third round) games and those people were lifesavers for me

Most post -season tournaments for most sports go out bid for a “host” school, yes, nothing new here. Not sure if this one did, or not, but as Someone who worked in our athletic department and saw our school bid for countless numbers of postseason tournaments, I have no reason to make shit up.

I would like t see them go after a couple of bigs

You're comparing apples to oranges. I'm fully aware of NCAA tournament games at a nearby arena like the Meadowlands where we were the "host" school, a women's tournament hosted at on campus facility or a field hockey tournament. I never doubted that stuff. What we're talking about the 2018 Big Ten Men's Basketball Conference Tournament at Madison Freaking Square Garden.

Again...I don’t know IF they doled out bids or not, already said that, but there are reasons they do so regardless. Anyway not gonna argue.

I know we are not talking about the ncaa. We have hosted that as recently the last Final 4 in a bball arena. The year walker and cuse won. Remember
Kmac having a logo'd ncaa court side seat in his office.

Never herd as out conf. Tourney though...who knows.

So I guess you haven’t noticed the school logos, in the top right corner of each floor, at every game during the NCAA tournament thus far, correct? You know like the one Villanova is playing right now with the “HOST SCHOOL BC” logo on the floor in the upper right corner by the Texas Tech bench?

I don’t make shit up when I post here, never have, no need to IMHO but, hey, I’m sure posters will still continue to question everything I say lol...oh well. [cheers]

Colonel Rutgers is on the same page as you with regard to their being a host school for rounds of the NCAA Tournament. He does not think that the same holds true for conference tournaments and I haven’t seen anything to contradict that (such as seeing the logo of a host on the Garden floor for the Big Ten Tournament).

If the NCAA needs “host schools” why wouldn’t conferences?? Think about that for a second. I LITERALLY worked at RU when we use to “bid” to host conference tournaments of various sports lol this is NOT out of the norm.

...and, actually, in his last post he was talking about the B1G and “MS FREAKIN G” or whatever ...hence my point, that the NCAA needs host schools at MAJOR arenas as deep as the Sweet 15, kinda stands. right?

I don’t have a reason why they wouldn’t be hosted by a school. In fact, I think it’s a good idea to make the conference tournaments more regional since many conferences are so spread out. I just don’t have any evidence that this occurs. You regularly hear about which schools are hosting different rounds of the NCAA tournament but I don’t hear that about conference tournaments. Also, unless the Big East is unique, why wouldn’t the Big East Tournament occur in different arenas if they were being hosted by different schools? Why would Creighton be hosting the Big East Tournament in NYC? Just food for thought.
