It sounds from the story like the alleged victim decided not to pursue a permanent restraining order against Carroo. At that point, the domestic violence aspect disappeared, and I would think it's rare to prosecute for simple assault without a domestic violence aspect. But those more deeply involved in domestic violence law would know more than I do.

FYI, this is a regular occurrence here in NJ. Men are charged all the time with DV usually on false allegations of a female acquaintance and the system bends over backwards to prosecute the man. I know several men who have been charged with DV and have FRO's against them even though they didn't do anything. It is a real problem here in NJ and is the equivalent of the false allegations of rape on campuses. In fact, the "preponderance of the evidence" standard is the same level of "proof" needed to validate the charges as those used by the kagaroo courts at colleges.

I've been hoping this would be the case. My read on the facts presented made me speculate that the charges might wind up being dismissed. But there were a lot of assumptions built into that speculation (which is why I didn't voice it here). Starting to look like some of those assumptions are turning out to be true.

Let's hope the report was accurate, that all charges are dismissed today, and that he can get to practice tomorrow and play this weekend.
