First-year Rutgers women's volleyball head coach Caitlin Schweihofer has announced her first Scarlet Knight recruiting class on Tuesday. Coming "To The Banks" this fall include three transfers and a trio of freshmen joining the six returning letterwinners in competing in the nation's top volleyball conference.

"I am thrilled to announce our 2020 recruiting class, which includes a great mix of domestic and international players, as well as transfer student-athletes and incoming freshman, who will all look to make immediate contributions to the program," said Schweihofer of the incoming class. "Over the past two months my staff and I scanned the globe and evaluated talent from several different parts of the world. Additionally, we have worked hard to develop relationships with previously committed student-athletes. I am confident that these fresh faces have bought in to my vision for the future of Rutgers volleyball, and I cannot wait to work with them this upcoming season."

Given how bad the team has been, does anyone know if this class was a step forward?

She is the right coach. She will recruit better than CJ. This class is the best she could do with the timeframe given. This group will help. When Caitlin took over most players were either committed or had a pretty good idea of where they wanted to go. It’s hard to flip a player especially to a program that has been as bad as RU late in the game. If she is going to be successful here she has to get away from the international players. I assume she took the two players she did because they were still available and she needed to fill her roster. CJ has too many international players and if you look at the top teams they have American players.

If Caitlin is going to win here she needs to recruit CA, TX, FL, NJ and the DC area. If that is her base and then she picks up players here and there from other states or the occasional international player she will do fine. NJ is a very good girls volleyball recruiting ground. Bergen County is loaded with talent. If she can land 1 or 2 of the top N.J. players each year and then hit the other states and DC area she could do really well. She will likely carry a roster of 18-20 players. If she is a third N.J., a third CA and then and a third the rest of the areas roughly that will be a nice mix for her roster.

I really would love to see volleyball get good as it's a massive fall Olympic sport in the B1G, just like wrestling is in the winter. If it gets good and starts drawing a big fanbase I bet it moves into the RAC like wrestling and gymnastics did.

Thanks for the scoop. Hope she succeeds.

Would like to see Rutgers have more sports doubleheader’s. I have seen some Big Ten volleyball on BTN and enjoyed it. Would certainly show up for a volleyball match before a basketball game.
