RUTGERS vs. seton hall Series Extension

Actually...what excited me beating the hall last year was that they were a NCAA and a good win

The rivalry thing with them, as a long tine Rutgers fan since the mid 70s....never there before we were in the big east. We considered it a big game in the late 80s and early 90s because we were stuck in the Atlantic ten... but it really was only a rivalry when we were playing twice a year in the big east

I don’t consider it a rivalry anymore. A good out of confrence game...yes. But it just doesn’t have the juice for me anymore as a long time
You sound just like the shu fans with their heads stuck up their asses. This game is a rivalry..its our #1 rivalry. The way the game was packed with so many rabid shu and rutgers fans..that wasnt just because shu happened to be projected to have a good year. That's ridiculous..we weren't even projected to have a good year. That's not why our fans showed up with hatred running through their blood.

Not sure why it doesn’t have juice for you: I was at the RAC in December there was juice My question is , was there any other game at the RAC this year that had as much juice?

Weekend home games are much more live than weeknights, for obvious reasons....you can get more fans/families/kids in the building....home game vs Top 5 Purdue was also electric for RU as was Friday night at MSG vs Purdue, despite a horrific travel day after a rain/winter storm and roads/train travel being bad.....as long as these games are scheduled properly on a Saturday, fans can attend at a much higher clip (from both sides).

respectfully disagree..... what was need was for RU to finally break through and win a game, it was getting way too one sided.

we have done it this past year.... expect it to be a tough emotional game once again at their place.

I understand it guys...it’s the Jersey hoops thing. I get it

Again ..understand my perspective ..I grew up on Rutgers in the mid 70s...

Rivalry then for me was
1.) St. John’s
2.) Syracuse
3.) PRINCETON

Seton hall wasn’t a huge rivalry then ...it was very much while in the big east

It just doesnt have that same juice ...sure it was a great game...and the Jersey pride thing. But I really felt it was more because the hall was, to their credit, s very good team more than the Jersey thing

When we were in the big east ...it was the game we circled on the schedule . I rooted against them whoever they played. It was a rivalry

I didnt root against them the rest of the year...I wanted them to be good so our win looked even better.

It’s just not the same ...at least for me

I don't get as pumped up about the SH rivalry as some others seem to, but it is a local rivalry, and Rutgers, Princeton and Seton Hall are the only schools in NJ that don't play in a minor conference. Other NJ schools like NJIT, Monmouth, or St Peters, don't warrant more than occasional rotating schedules. So if Rutgers wants a local series, the choices are really only SH and Princeton.
As usual...

Those are the only two NJ schools we should ever leave the RAC to play.

Everybody else, if they want Rutgers on their schedule...it’s in Piscataway.

Hard to believe they wouldn't extend this series, but still good to hear.

And we should be playing Princeton. It's not the trip to the dentist it used to be, and history should mean something. That and the fact our fans can take over their gym with minimal effort, making no game in the series a road game. Hell, the only sport we shouldn't play them in is football.

As for the rest of the Jersey schools, definitely play them but no need to play them every year and, barring a new gym opening, no need to play them on the road. I wouldn't mind seeing a rejuvenated Jersey Classic, either.

Back in the early 80’s I remember taking packed train into MSG to see game when Callandrillo was playing for the Hall

Official Release:

Garden State Hardwood Classic Extended Through 2026

Rutgers and Seton Hall have signed a contract to extend the annual Garden State Hardwood Classic six more years at alternating home sites through the 2026 season. The Scarlet Knights and Pirates have met 69 times on the collegiate hardwood dating back to 1916.

Could not agree more...there’s not much choice in NJ so that’s about it, though I’d prefer to play Princeton every year instead of SHU. In every aspect that counts PU > SHU
Except for the only one that actually counts in the basketball-only context we're talking here ... which is basketball.

I became a fan in 75 and consider the Hall a Huge game and always have. I would agree in the old days when we were good the johnies and cues were bigger but I see that as them being more relevant than shu pre-big east but I see shu as a big rival driven by closeness and a history of chippy play mostly from some low class shu punks. I do respect shus b-ball history and think it great for both programs and Jersey if we can get it rolling here which I think we will. This should be a big time game imo.
