Rutgers Women's Basketball earns 2025 WNIT bid
Rutgers Women's Basketball will participate in the 2025 WNIT, earning a bid on Sunday.
Its a real offer. There is no winning record requirement. That said, why?????WHAT?? No f'ing way. Will they accept? I gotta think about this. Alec, this better not be an early April fool's joke.
143 other women's programs are balancing postseason competition with portal recruiting. Are you suggesting ours cannot? How!!!?? Shouldn’t she be focusing all of her energy on recruiting (portal). They’re losing DESTINY, CHYNA, JOJO and AWA to graduation. Kiyomi and who know who else to the portal. You have ONE high school recruit coming in. You had an 11-19 season! The last thing you should be worried about is playing in the NIT. That’s nice for the seniors but does it help the program? Coach has one more year to turn this ship around and she only has that year because there’s no AD or PRESIDENT.
Actually, we did earn it. There are 144 postseason berths (64 NCAA, 32 WBIT, 48 WNIT). Our NET ranking was 119. We fully deserve to be in the least prestigious of the three tournaments.Good for them and I'm not going to join the typical bash fest. But will say using the word "earned" in the post title seems like a stretch.
In short, YES. Since she’s been here, they haven’t had a full roster. How many other programs are in the shape that this program is in? All of their energy should be trying to keep as many players as possible and filling the void. Get a jump on the portal, but instead they’re re playing in the NIT ( with an 11-19 record). What does this really do for the program and where it needs to go. I’m happy for the seniors but I’m more concerned about the future and fielding a competitive team. There are already some rumblings that multiple players will try their luck with the portal. They will lose their best players to graduation or the portal and they only have one high school senior signed.143 other women's programs are balancing postseason competition with portal recruiting. Just curious, where have you heard of "rumblings" of the portal? In short, YES. Since she’s been here, they haven’t had a full roster. How many other programs are in the shape that this program is in? There are 8 P4 teams in the WBIT (of 32 teams, 25%). 37 in the NCAA's (of 68 teams, 54% of the field). One in the WNIT (of 48 teams, 2%) And 22 not in the post season. There is also the WBIT that is now in between the NCAA and the WNIT. I think most of the Power 4 teams are in there. https://www.ncaa.com/news/basketbal...dule-tv-channels-womens-basketball-tournament
Don’t know if I’ll get in trouble for this, but in last week’s War Room, it was hinted that they expect several transfers from the Women’s team.Just curious, where have you heard of "rumblings" of the portal?
We were invited (for whatever reason). The team wants to play. But you want to not play because the concept is diluted?I have not followed WBB closely at all since CViv drove the program into the ground. I knew their record was not good but this is comical that they are playing in a post season tournament with that record. The concept of "earning" a post season bid could not be more diluted starting with the expanded NCAA field and moving down to where they need to find 144 teams to fill these brackets. How would you feel if they decided they wanted to hang a banner at the RAC for this "accomplishment"?
This is the equivalent of the men playing in the CBI, which I would enthusiastically oppose. Some real losers in this thread. The team was out of the Big Ten tournament, fought hard and won their final game against Penn State and got into the B1Gs as the 15 seed - some here would say we should have turned down that too! Just like the mens side where we got the 11 seed but many were openly rooting for us to lose and become the 16-18 seed to not play there either. LOSER mentality
It's not about what message board posters want. It's about what the team wants. This is the equivalent of the men playing in the CBI, which I would enthusiastically oppose.
So, finishing third in the B1G in her final season as Head Coach is driving the programme into the ground. What lofty standards you have. rufeelinit is fullofit.I have not followed WBB closely at all since CViv drove the program into the ground. Really, what I've tried to say, said more articulately with great (and accurate) background. The WNIT is now a joke, really, as I noted above RU is the only P4 team in the tourney. The WBIT took the thunder, not to mention in this day and age that having the NCAA pay your expenses (vs. the WNIT, which doesn't) is a big plus.I kind of don't like this because I think it diminishes the WNIT championship RU won. That squad was very solid (Laney, Copper, Scaife) but had what seemed to be a developing trend of late-season collapse; however, the team was still a bubble team that got left out. There was no first four play-in at that time, or RU probably would have been in a play-in game. The WNIT was all right with a lot of good teams, required teams to have at least 0.500 records, and was not owned by the NCAA. The WBI was the third-tier back then and stopped when the NCAA created the WBIT, running the first tournament last year. I guess the NCAA wanted to pay more than lip service to supporting WBB after the embarrassment of disparate treatment was spotlighted during the bubble year. The NCAA already had the NIT for MBB but couldn't have a WNIT because the WNIT already existed as a private entity. Now that there are two NCAA-owned and funded tournaments for women, the WNIT is third tier (and apparently no longer requires a winning record). Not sure how long it will last since now all those P5->P4 schools that used to play in the WNIT and bid for home-court advantage will go to the WBIT.
I also don't like the idea that a team with a lopsided losing record gets a post-season tournament bid.
How about the financial impact to Rutgers for this joke? Break even..whatever. we lose money that could go to NIL.. ? Screw that.If the players want to play ,NIT should be a go.
Don't want Rutgers in, ignore the tourney
Any team with better NETs pass on the tourney?.There are 48 teams in the WNIT. Rutgers NET is 119. That NET is the 8th highest among the 48 WNIT teams.
EIGHTH. Out of 48.
You may draw your own conclusions. But to say that RU is unworthy of the WNIT is just wrong.
You make a couple of good points. Can't think of four student-athletes who deserve the opportunity to play additional games more than Destiny, JoJo, Chyna, and Awa. I hope they can go all the way. Screw the record.....none of them are losers.
At this point, Coach should be using these games in an attempt to attract other outstanding players from these mid-major programs. That's where the fanbase plays a MAJOR role on Sunday along with the team.
