Rutgers Women's Basketball vs. DePaul

Aaaahhhhhh!! Best news of the day that they decided to air the game on ESPN3. I would have listened on the radio before paying yet another fee. Flohoops or whatever it is.

This is gonna be a tough one tomorrow. Depaul has a lot of scorers and will try to keep the pressure on to keep up with them offensively.

We have to put forth our strongest 5 from the start and have all of them on their "A" game. The threes have got to be money. Need to be assertive and use Sakima down low to try to get Morrow in foul trouble before Morrow does so to our posts.

We'll see if they have the 55 down well enough to execute it against an experienced Depaul. Good thing is, we have the numbers to run it and give people breaks.

Anyway you slice it, this tourney is going to be a huge challenge for us. I hope the coaches come correct because I know the players are capable of competing and winning.

Our women’s team has a lot of potential, but they need to start gelling. Would like to see Liz get more opportunity and become a team leader.

Don't understand Tim's lineups. Starting five was ok. Five minutes in was too soon for Destiny. And I can't understand the lack of time for Sakima. I think she is a much better finisher than Tiya and provides a better target in the post. The guards are struggling to enter the ball down there because Tim has our smaller posts in the game together all the time.

He's gotta keep ball handlers in the game at all times. And...... maybe they need to come out of the press and try man to man.

OOOhhhh!! Shug Dickson in the game. Where was she in the first quarter? She is probably our best ballhandler.

Why are they giving them the three??? Did they read the scouting report?? Make them put it on the floor.

Shug Dickson settled the team nicely on offense. She needs to be our point guard the rest of the way. And I like that Tim went to the freshman, Sanderlin because I think she is more suited for this type of pressure, handling the ball. A bit more athletic than Steph G.

They let DePaul get separation because they did not defend the three point line. And........we're missing ours. Shooters have to show up. Steph hit one, I believe, unless it was a long two.

RU 30 DeP 41 at halftime. Close second quarter. Deficit created in first quarter.

Getting great shots, ball just not falling. Frustrating because the girls on this team are all great shooters at their past stops so why does putting on the block R uniform an offensive curse in every sport

The rotation is still too many for a game like this against such a strong, aggressive opponent. Players need to get in a groove. Needs to go with the strongest 8-10 today. Maybe he can use more against Vandy.

I always wondered how much time they practice shooting. Gotta get in the reps. I personally, would guess that they don't do enough shooting practice.

With just under six minutes to go in the third quarter, RU cuts into the lead of Depaul: 48 43. Go RU!

DePaul points are from beyond the arc. RU points are from the inside.

He needs to let Tiya play the next game. This game he should stick with what's working., ...Sidibe and Brown. And get Lassiter and Dickson in the game for Mason and Morris. Although Morris is playing well. You can come back to her if needed.

Cut lead to four then got a little sloppy. Depaul 55 47 at the 2-minute mark of 3Q.

Tim goes away from some of his stronger players. Put Tiya back in and she immediately gets out of place on D and gives up an and one opportunity. Took too long to get Shug back in the game for Mason.

Aggressive play gets RU within two points at the end of 3Q before DePaul went to the FT line, 60 57 DePaul ahead.

Keep it up, Scarlet Knights!

RU scored 27 points in the third quarter. Driving to the basket is where RU is doing well.

Lots of movement up and down the court from the teams, DePaul getting to the rim and leads 72 to 68 with five minutes to go.

Three misses in a row when RU had the chance to tie or take the lead. Fouls and misses. Both teams getting antsy?

Followed by a scoring spurt. DePaul lead up to five with 1:19 left in the game: 77 72.

RU's attempts for a tying 3-PTer miss. DePaul's ball with five seconds on the clock and DePaul ahead, 77 74.

Late steal gives the Scarlet Knights one more shot, probably. Will have to play for a three. Let's hope Morris takes the shot.

Bad finish. Wrong substitutions IMO. Putting people in that kill momentum. Don't know why Dickson was taken out for final minutes. She directs the team better than Mason and can shoot it better. Mason ends up with it in her hands around the three but has no confidence in her shot.

IMO, wrong player combos by Tim are keeping the team from getting these close games.

Well, darn. DePaul wins 77 74. Another nice second-half effort by the Scarlet Knights.

Dear Scarlet Knights,

Please stop getting behind by double digits in the first half. Please keep playing well in the second half.

Kind regards,

If I could rewind that last minute, I would have had RU go for another inside shot when there were still 50 seconds on the clock. Much higher chance of a basket. Maybe the players were thinking that someone had to hit soon.

This was by far the best team we’ve played so far this year (picked for 2nd in Big East). We dug a big hole early but we’re almost able to dig out of it. I agree that there are some players who need to be given less time. The first minutes from Shug Dixon showed a lot of promise. Osh Brown is the real deal. 20 & 20!

I feel a little better about this team after today. i felt early in the year that there was a lot of individual talent on the team but they didn’t know how to play together yet. That’s getting better but still has a way to go. Tomorrow against Arizona may not be pretty but there’s hope.

Great effort by Osh. Don’t understand Tim’s substitutions. Seems obvious who should be in. Take Mason out. No confidence in her shot and offense stops with the ball in her hands. Lasha had a bad game which we can’t afford. The few of us at the game were shaking our heads most of the game.

We play Vandy tomorrow.

I'm not as enthusastic after today's loss as some others are.... 2 for 16 from 3... Victoria Morris 2-4 from 3, rest of team 0-12 from 3. I don't think this will result in successful B1G play. There's definitely a problem with all RU basketball outside shooting, and I'm not sure that it's solely the fault of the players we have... Almost makes me wonder if maybe the RU strength and conditioning coach for both men and women isn't able to increase strength and conditioning without hurting fine shooting coordination, or if coaches' hard practices result in tired legs at game time, or something else.. Maybe they're doing the same strength workouts as the football offensive linemen are.. 😉

Why isn’t Sakima playing? She’s 6’4 looked pretty good last year and was our top recruit a year ago if she continues to not play I am sure she will transfer out after this year why stay?

Yea, I've been voicing the same thing. Historically, good shooters shoot terrible in games for us. They always mention the tough practices. Sometimes less is more.

Mason is definitely one of our core players but is getting too many minutes at the expense of Sayawni, and now Shug. Tim could help Jailyn by putting her back at the two. She should only be running the point in an emergency situation where Shug and Sayawni are not available.

Tim also needs to tell her to look for her shot from foul line in. That is where she is confident shooting it. Everything doesn't have to be a three if you don't shoot it from there comfortably. Steph is not a PG option against the better competition. IMO, she can't get guard minutes in a game like this when Shug and Sayawni are not getting enough time.

Osh, Sidibe, and Morris continue to impress and show they deserve to be in a short rotation. Although Lasha didn't score the ball today, she still does so many intangibles that tell me, she needs to be on the court as much as possible. If Tim gets Shug and Sayawni worked in with these players, it's a nice core of players that should dominate the minutes.

Liz is puzzling to me. I hope Tim has not alienated her with the lack of playing time. Her body language is not good during the timeouts and she is not coming in the games ready to show she should stay on the court. They need to get her mentally ready by getting her more involved with the core. She seems talented enough to be there.

I take it back about Liz not looking ready to play when she got in. Looking at it again, she gave up a couple of open threes on defense but so did all our other perimeter players. That goes on the coach more so than on Liz.

She just doesn't get enough time to get going. She came in the third quarter with just under 4 min left and was out at the 2 minute mark after making two good scoring drives(a nifty assist followed by a drive that drew a foul; sank both FT).

Good effort, but the 3 shooting killed RU today.
Reminded me of the Iowa game that we let Gabby Marshal.?? go crazy from three which cost us that game. The matchup zone and the 55 have to be scrapped immediately when we play teams that are ready for it. We let them get away from us by giving three point shooters shooting practice.

We have the bodies to play tight man-to-man defense all game.
