Rutgers Women's Basketball vs. Vanderbilt

Please put "hopefully" before rebuild. For better or worse, it is almost always a crapshoot when you change coaches. It takes a certain amount of luck to pick the right candidate. A team in Rutgers position would be well served to get someone with head coaching experience (level is not important) who has spent time in the coaching ranks (could have been an assistant) in a proven Power 5 type program.
For me, I just would like to see a candidate who's been a highly successful coach at the college or pro level, Success has to have been sustained over a period of time, ...not just one or two good years. Can be mid-major or power 5. Proven ability to recruit.

RU went 0-3 in the tourney … should have stayed home and saved the money instead of getting a participation medal.

unfortunately I think this program is not one that is desirable right now. Any coach that comes will be left with nothing...and also if CVS is still lingering around the program that will severely impact the kind of recruits and style we play. Back in the mid 90s when Grentz left, RU was a fading program but still had a fanbase which was rare for womens hoops. Now the fanbase is decimated even with a hall of fame coach and two NCAA wins in 12 years says it all.

CVS never recruited NJ all that much and when she did land them it was only certain level of player, we were never hauling in the best. A new coach needs to actually connect with NY/NY/Philly players in a way that the CVS regime hasnt.

I still say make a pitch to Gail G...she currently got back in coaching being an assistant at Kentucky. She is 58 which is getting up there but might want to make one last go around at the top.

Isn't she more similar to what you want to move on from. H of F coach, yes, but her major H of F years were as long ago as CVS' last Final Four and Championship game appearance. Left Duke for Texas and couldn't deliver, ended up resigning due to burnout/exhaustion. That was back in 2012. Duke job reopened after uh............can't think of the name Joanne ??...........left. Duke ruled Gail out without even granting an interview.

Huge red flags that should rule her out, IMO. If she were to struggle a little bit while here at RU, I'd hate to see what the crew (you know who I'm talking about) would do to a coach who's already been through one resignation due to burnout and exhaustion and a rejection from the home of her H of F legacy.

I'd much rather reach out to a Legette-Jack (Univ of Buffalo), or even more intriguing............a young, aspiring candidate like Kristi Tolliver, who's been getting experience on NBA coaching staffs like Kara Lawson did before taking the Duke job. Too bad the timing was off for going after Lawson or Banghart.

Tolliver could definitely refine our team's shooting. She is a sharpshooter.

Legette-Jack is doing fairly well at Buffalo after a not so great run at Indiana
She did improve the Hofstra program when she wad there , but had a overall losing record
I don’t feel she’s top candidate material and too much of a gamble.

Kristine Tolliver is assistant coaching material, Rutgers needs a HC with some HC experience and a record of success.

Gail Goestenkors might be a name brand that can lead RU out of the wilderness that it has found itself into because of Tim’s coaching and the confusion
surrounding the program being caused by CVS’ leave of absence and the lack of knowing what her role will be next year and how long she’ll be leading the program.

A name brand like Gail G might be whatr’s needed to get the HS talent looking at RU as a place that will be a top program they can be a part of and the better players entering the portal look at as a possible destination.
Being an assistant at Kentucky now helps keep her name out there when it comes to today's HS talent being recruited.
She's a known winner.

Only one season at Princeton where she went 29-1 but Karla Berube might be considered. She had a long successful career at Tufts. Would like more experience as D1 head coach though

I would think Chelsea Newton would also be considered. 7 years as assistant at Georgia so perhaps she learned some new things. The hesitancy is the CVS coaching tree has not been successful being head coaches

I think you need to send CVS on her way and a clean break. Keep her in an administrative position and her two cents will be to hire someone who is just like her. A defensive coach. She would constantly hover over whoever the new coach is. The game has passed her by and she's set in her ways. I always thought the Golden parachute of moving her to an administrative role was stupid. She'll have too much influence on the new hire and if she doesn't get her way, she's not one to shy away from publicly voicing her displeasure.

I just think that whoever it is, they have to be able to recruit elite HS talent, McDonalds AAs, Top 20 players, like Banghart and Lawson are doing immediately at NC and Duke. I don't think HS kids today know who Gail Goestenkoers is, but they know Kristi Tolliver.

I would trust Tolliver with a set of AAs before going down that Gail G road. She has not been a head coach but has been like a coach on the floor for her WNBA teams and, I think, has led teams to Championships at every level. RU should do their homework on her to see if she is a fit for us and vice versa.

Chelsea, unproven, could probably recruit, but it seems like we need a new direction from the CVS style of play. More specifically, the CVS offensive style of play. RU should give her a serious look though, respectfully. You never know, she may turn out to be the best candidate.

I would also be open to the names mentioned above (Green and Berube) if they look like they can recruit big time players.

IMO, the difference between good programs and elite ones is the level of the recruits.

I don't think she would have any interest. From what was variously said, she likes the academic schools. She has never recruited scholarship athletes, either. Very, very talented coach, but almost certainly not a likely candidate. The other appeal mentioned at Princeton was acceptance of her wife and family.

Yes, I think she would be a good option. A lot of the CVS coaching tree didn't really coach elsewhere before getting their ultimately less than successful opportunities.

Carlene was not exclusively a Vivian product, but her problems, at least at UCSB, were the equivalent of trying to do Champagne level plays with beer budget players. I saw that in person some years ago when they lost to what was a dreadful Arizona team at the time.

Just to be clear - the issue with CVS has been that the offense never seemed to be anywhere near as effective as the defense. The level of defense, in and of itself, was a good thing.

One of the dirty secrets of WBB remains that defense wins games. But you need a good offense as well. UConn has always been one of the highest ranked defenses (unfortunately for their opponents, the offense excels as well). Arizona owes much of its success to defense, as well.

We did have a few on the board who claimed there would be little difference with the team since the STAFF had been together for a number of years. Tim is the Head Honcho now but he clearly doesn’t have the answers to find out what is causing this team to play so badly. I think we have some talent ; we also lost some better talent and yet some didn’t want to admit the departure of Stringer was not going to be problematic going forward in 2021-2022. I doubt Hobbs will go after a top coach since we are paying CViv a lucrative no work needed salary.

I was one that poo pooed the people that worried about the change from CVS to tim and if he could overcome the players that transferred out with the ones that transferred in.
So far I look like I was wrong about both.
The season is still young and I hope to be proven right, but not going to say it will and consider that a long shot.

I hold others accountable when they're wrong, no problem for me holding myself accountable .

It’s a FAN board…accountability or not is frankly irrelevant. No one cares if you come here and eat crow or get all puffy with self importance. It simply does not matter. Again is is JUST a simpleton fan board; tantamount to nothing meaningful.

It is nice to hear at least one person can admit they were wrong.I have been wrong many times over my lifetime. Mad you were not one of those I was referencing. I did not think those individuals would make comment about the poor play. This CViv fiasco had all the earmarks of a season going in the tank. Now those same diehard crazees are awfully quiet. We can play better but this HC is looking like the proverbial “ always an assistant”. Some of these women on the bench should be playing much more. Missing Diamond Johnson and Broughton hurts big time. And sorry but my blame goes to Hobbs on not being more aware that we were going to be minus a real coach.
