Rutgers women's hoops wants to 'shock' people

Well so much for "shocking" anyone. UT-C a very good team, however, so hopefully this team "grows" as the season moves along.

I like this part (Parker's response about expectations):
It probably is safe to say expectations outside the program aren’t too high.

>“That’s fine,” Parker said. “As long as we believe, honestly, that’s all that matters. (Stringer) believes in us. Our whole (coaching and support) staff, they believe in us. We believe in ourselves and we know what we can do.<

I'll go by what she says rather then listen to those who look for what's wrong so they can complain.
Don't care if it's the wrong thing to do,for me it's the right thing to do as a fan before the season starts.
My opinion is: Sharing hope is a lot more fun than preaching doom and gloom to all that will listen.

Its been said time and again that Stringer's teams are better in January because it takes time to implement offensive/defensive systems.

She really should retire. t's freakin' over. Thank you, thank you, THANK YOU for everything you've done, but this program has now been surpassed by Elon. ELON!!!

No excuses, please, it's just is what is is and quite a shame. Maybe if she had retired by now the program would be on its way back but, alas, it's not.

Who knows how the season will turn out this early.
Right now it looks bad and I bet that's the same thing a lot of fans of other programs are saying about thir school.
UConn's MBB fans can't be happy the way their team lost and probably has a few fans wondering about Ollie. But that's a horse of a different color because it's not Rutgers he's coaching.
Stringer is getting flack and the only way to stop that is with some RU wins.
What Ollie does is his school's problem

I hate to write this, but I believe its time. This program has dropped to depths not seen in decades. The glory years are gone and we are now a D2 or 1AA team, certainly not a 1A. In football terms we are an FBS team not an FCS one. This is a dramatic fall, and has everything to do with recruiting. What happened to our ability to get the top players? Look around, other teams we used to be equal to still get the top girls? Scaife will not save us.

Anyway, programs do go through this and it leads to a total reboot. We need fresh coaching blood in here now. CVS is a HOF coach, but every coach has her time, this is hers. We need to start over from the ground floor we are now on. Maybe we get renewed enthusiasm, better recruiting etc.

yikes, knew it was going to be a tough year but this is a bad start...worse than expected.
Let's go ladies.

Well, they succeeded. I am shocked.
Me too...NEGATIVELY....AND I HATE TO ADMIT IT...DID STRINGER THROW IN THE TOWEL???JUST COLLECTING A CHECK??? ITS A SHAME CAUSE WE COULD ALWAYS COUNT ON WBB UNTIL WHATSHERNAME WENT TO TURKEY...WE'VE NEVER RECOVERED...

Eventually the game outpaces everyone...

You either adapt or get exposed. Look at Phil Jackson with the Knicks...

With that said... CVS is a legend. Not being able to fire a legend is a small price to pay for having one. Hopefully we will recover for this season & future ones.

UConn? The drop in TV MONEY or prestige of conference is starting to show....us?? We need top coaches to compete at the highest levels were at..

I am not shocked about the team right now. Cviv talked with the students at the town hall and told us this would be the case .. we have very young players, 8 freshman on the team right now, which is crazy. We lost 2 talents to the WNBA and the other one is redshirting. She said give it a couple seasons but we will be our traditional Sweet 16/Elite 8 -type team again soon.

We haven't been a traditional "Sweet 16/Elite 8 team" since 2009.

The problem is that we lost 2 players to graduation/WNBA yet last year wasn't exactly a great year either. We were season ticker holders until we moved away last winter so watching from afar have been very surprised. Even with young players I would not expect to lose to a team in the Southern Conference - it doesn't even seem as if they're competitive. I'm sure losing Tyler for the season has hurt but can't rely on just one player.

Have to play defense in the women's game, but can't rely on defense to shut the other team down. Now you must generate points and keep away from scoring droughts. So far we don't appear to have much firepower. Maybe it will develope before it's too late.

well thats baloney from her because we had 3 WNBA talents on the team last year and couldnt make the NCAA, recruiting has dried up so where is this run to the sweet 16. Its not 2006 anymore

All of the legend stuff aside, the bottom line is about not only winning but competing on the court.
Simply put, this program is really bad. All three losses are by double digits and the games were a lot worse than that until some late game surges that fell well short.
Is Stringer immune to the hot seat? She has put a poor product on the court and whose fault is that other than her?

I posted 2 of the top 5 viewed and commented on posts at the end of last season and as usual got destroyed by the CVS loyalists. The more important post was "The Beginning of the End." It can now read as "The Beginning of the End Unfolds." Hall of Fame Coach Stringer has dedicated her life to women's basketball and must be given credit to the rise of it's popularity and more importantly in the excellent development of the game. She was a defensive genius pioneer.

But that was in the past. I have been a big constructive critic since I have seen her coaching decline for the last years.

I have said forever this about her: Defensive genius and recruiting guru. Now that her defensive coaching has not brought about past performances and MORE importantly, her recruiting has dropped significantly since the Tyler S recruiting year, it has shown that it is time to step down. It has now resulted in the Unfolding of the Beginning of the End.

THECVS loyal will ay this season is because we llost Tyler for the year. No doubt a BIG lost, but how much difference could she make.

The final record will be staggering. Staggering enough that ih ope Coach stringer looks int he mirror and for the goodofthe pr o gram decides ostep do wn.

I agree Hobbs has to find a way to let her get out gracefully but watching this train wreck is no way to do it. They are not eve going to win 5 games this year

It might take her 4 seasons to get to 1000 wins at this rate. She needs 31. Maybe I'm being kind.
