Rutgers Wrestling Minny Sunday Afternoon--It's -13 F. Now.

Still can't understand why they built an outdoor football stadium. I get they needed a news place but they still should have built a sweet little dome.

Their season is over by November. Not THAT cold there by then.

Reggie Jackson once went there for a banquet held in such weather, leaving Arizona's 87 degrees.

Average temp in Nov is like 25 and 9 inches of snow. Ain't exactly ideal conditions.

The odds of their 2 games there that month getting a lot of snow is miniscule. Admit you're wrong and move on. College kids can play in a cold temp once in a while.

You guys are a bunch of chick's. If football was meant to be played in ideal conditions everyone would have a dome

Yes, but the Vikings season continues into January

Yes, the university should have anticipated that there was a chance, at sometime in the future, an NFL team might have an "emergency" and ask to use their stadium for two seasons, and therefore a few hundred million should be spent to put a roof on the place, just in case.

Rutgers should expand the capacity of HPSS to 82,000+ and add all the luxury boxes just in case something happens to Met Life.

It is tolerable in November out here. Maybe one or two games a year will be on the chilly side, but not unreasonable so. January and February is when the brutal cold arrives. This morning is unreasonable.

Having lived in Iowa for three years I know all to well how cold it can get. I remember not wanting to leave my apartment. Lol. I gent your point but I believe it was like 14 degrees when they played OSU. If North Dakota can afford a dome Minnesota can.

Where in Iowa? My wife is from Dyersville. Minnesota cold can be another level though

Here is a fun little tidbit for you all. I love Minneapolis, am from PA and currently live in OH so I looked it up a few years ago.

Minneapolis is known for its brutal winters but they actually don't get that much snow. They actually get less than Cleveland. The temperatures there are much colder though. Cleveland is also thought to be a nightmare in the winter but they only get ~60% of the snow that Erie, PA does.

Is this expected to be a close match for you all?

We're a little banged up but if we can grab some bonus points in the early weights we can pull the win. Our bigs don't give up many bonus points so this could be a great match.

You say that like it would only add a few bucks to the cost. Your talking about adding $100 to 200 million onto a project for maybe 2 games a year that will need it.

I remember taking a 7:30am swimming class then walking across campus to the student center because I had an hour before my next class. My hair could be frozen stiff by the time I got inside.

The winds here along the coast are tough to deal with during the winter but never seem as cold or consistent as I remember out there.

When I was at Iowa St back in the mid-80's, Super Bowl weekend in Ames was -30 with -90 wind chill factor. They used to call them Alberta Clippers. I don't think the temp got above zero for 3-4 days. When the temp hit the 20's, people were wearing shorts. It's amazing how you get used to weather.

I'm not in construction but that seems a bit high for Minnesota. Whole place cost about 300 to build. Not to mention, it would allow them to use it for concerts etc.

It wouldn't be cheap but I think that a good ball park figure. Also how many concerts and events would they really attract? You have the Metro Dome and you knew that the Vikings were probably going to get a new dome soon. In addition you have other venues like Target Center to compete with.

They hosted U2 a year or two ago at TCF Stadium. Most arena shows go to st paul where the Wild play, big stadium shows either Target Field (Twins Park) or new Vikings Stadium opening next season. Plenty of venues. Minnesota is more like NJ and Rutgers where athletics do not get a blank check and compete with the professional sports. A dome seems like it would have been a long shot.

The other thing I remember how quickly it could change. Mid - upper 60's during the day then 25-30 at night. I remember one day where we were all out on the front lawn getting sun mid day then played an intermural flag football game that night in a snowstorm.

So besides telling us how cold it is out there, would anybody be interested in telling us about who won the wrestling match?

Billy Smith had a big win over a guy ranked higher (Kroells), McCabe w big win, Richie Lewis out injured and Hayden Hrymack out w the flu. With a full lineup , RU wins.
