College Coaches Call to Action to Save Wrestling

You really are lost. Rutgers constantly promotes wrestling, and has been a leader advocating the importance of dual meets, to create a real entertainment event, and have a dual championship. We constantly lobby the NCAA, NWCA, and other programs to focus on duals and have a dual championship. Duals are the only thing that will save wrestling. Just look at what women's volleyball is doing in the B1G and other top programs. Why do you think we typically have top 5 attendance for dual meets? We're also very active on social media and in the community promoting wrestling. We run coaches clinics, tournaments, camps, SKWC, steady outreach to youth, rec, MS/HS and clubs, volunteer events, fundraisers, among other things.
Then I suppose nothing more is needed.

This, ^^^^^ Rutgers does a great job promoting wrestling. They are also very active in inviting youth teams, HS teams to their home duals(and a very steep discount)
Yep. People can make fun of the Costco boys all you want. They’re social media stars and some of the most viral content creators right now. Inviting one of them to a match is an innovative way to connect to people who otherwise might not know a thing about college wrestling.

Not bad for a D3 coaching staff
Look, I am fine with how the staff is marketing the program. My beef is with the very bad home dual schedule. This season we have only 6 home duals (4 mandated by the B1G) with 13 road/neutral duals. 2 seasons ago only 4 home duals. After that debacle season ticket holders were given a rebate for the next season. If we all agree that duals are the way to save Div 1 NCAA wrestling why are we giving a pass to Goodie on his scheduling? Fans in NJ are starved for duals at the RAC.

I’ve never been involved in a college scheduling process but at the high school level, teams often decline coming to places to face good teams in hostile environments. The best option is to do home and homes. I don’t remember what our schedule looked liked last year but I know we had a ton of home duals and it’s possible the heavy road dual schedule this year is repaying those teams by traveling there. Again, I’m not sure how well the two years of opponents compares though.

At the end of the day, if you’re a top 5-15 team, why would you want to go to the RAC when you can face a similar quality opponent in Illinois with way less of a home advantage?

If all coaches thought like Goodale, you’d suck in up and go anyway because great duals in great atmospheres only benefits the sport. No one seems to think big picture though, or at least care about it.

I would like a couple more home duals. I have season tickets for basketball too though and when these games/matches get all bunched up it gets crazy. This weekend I was at the RAC Friday, MSG Saturday and back to the RAC Sunday.
