17-0 at the intermission with Lewis winning 8-3. Surprised there's not more chatter on this. Total domination.

Sounds like McCabe and Ash had competitive matches. Nice win by Dippery. Seems like Scott can certainly hold back Gravina and Hrymack if not 100%.

I'm a bit surprised how close Ashnault's match was. Hope he is 100 %

is a shutout of a B1G wrestling team about to happen??? If it happens, then WOW! 1/2 way there right now. domination in progress!

Ashanult gave up a TD at the buzzer to make it 3-3 (He had over 2 minutes riding time)
GIraldo almost pinned himself twice (I thought he was going to lose when he came that close)

For what its worth both Central Michigan and Eastern Michigan beat MSU by scores of 34-0 and 33-0, respectively.

Final 34-0. Nice to see, though not nearly as impressive as it looks.

MSU really really sucks, BUT... a banged up RU (Giraldo, AA, Lewis, Perotti, Gravina, Hrymac all hurting) still took care of business. Now on to MN on the road...really looking forward to that dual meet.

I'll take a B1G shutout anytime, regardless.
I did expect a bigger crowd, but was happy to see many high school wrestlers in attendance.

Highlight for me was watching all four coaches standing and shouting to Pafumi at the same time. They were so pumped to see our backup get a B1G win. These guys really get it. $$$$

Workmanlike win. Took care of business. First 3 guys were decent and gave us good matches. On to to Minny.

WNG or Josh - Who does the Rutgers wrestling twitter ? The person does a great job and really keeps fans who can't attend. Please thank the person. A job well done.

That kid likes to get into scrambles.. Ash wrestled extremely smart technical match...rode him like a mule on top, stayed out of scrambles until the last few seconds

A lot of the matches felt a little too close. I felt like some of our guys should of wrecked their competition.. guess we are improving when I am a nitpicking at a shutout. Anyways, can't wait until we finally get to whoop on perennial big 10 powerhouse Minnesota next week. I'm very worried about our dual match with Michigan though. We need to improve until then or I don't see us beating Michigan.

We were flat last night...hard to always be at peak after Midlands. This was a great match to get back to business after Midlands. No one lost, but we saw a lot of rust. We got to rest Gravina...he weighed in and was ready. Can you imagine going 10-0, but no pins?
The highlights for me were often unsung hard workers, Dippery and Pafumi. Nice gritty wins by McCabe and Hrymack as well. Hrymack said after the match, 'This is my senior year. I am not sitting out." Such a good guy.
I don't think we will be overconfident going into Minnesota. We needed this to get back on an upnote, but see where we need to sharpen up.

To add, it's very difficult to score bonus points and turn guys when you are wrestling guys who are proactively trying not to get turned as opposed to actually trying to escape. The stalling on bottom by virtually every Spartan was annoying. You could see the frustration in Perrotti both during and after his match. Billy pins that kid if he doesn't lie there like a potato sack.

The lowlight of the match was the reffing. You can not have the crew at Iowa v RU and RU vs Maryland. The Big Ten should use the two matches as instruction on why they need to be a lot more consistent in how they call matches.
Yes, the reffing from last night in contrast to the Iowa match is just too inconsistent. I could see a little difference but this was just too vast. The NCAA really needs to get these ref's together to make sure they're on the same page. Some guys are going to call it different to some extent, but this difference is beyond ridiculous. The Iowa match was almost like you sit for 20 seconds we're going to bang you. Last night you sit for a minute we'll think about it.

Josh..nice assessment.I have too agree ...we did wrestle a little flat, but got the job done. You could see from the get go,that all the guys looked a little "jet lagged",for lack of terms. It was a tiring day for everyone I think, and those unwinding Friday nights are contagious.I was really impressed with Dip and BakThey really have gotten their confidence up after Midlands.Tyson is attacking and really riding tough and scoring points. His only down fall is consistency and he needs a little more strength.Other than that,he's wrestling with new life .Bakuckas is really opening up too,but I still feel he is a little tentative with his attacks.Don't get me wrong, the Midlands brought us a new Phil Bakuckas..and I am lovin it.I'm still concerned about BillySmith though.Yes,he dominated that kid,but he just doesn't seems too have that fire anymore.Shoot me for being the messenger, but thought he was more physical and dominant 2 years ago.For sometime, people where blaming the upper weight coaches, but it's not them,it's Billy. He's got get his confidence back and not be afraid of opening up.Kind of feel we are going to have another DJ Russo situation( and this is not a knock on DJ, because he's a good kid)

How about freakin' Pafumi? Was he truly giving up 10 lbs in that match, because while the MSU guy seemed much larger, Pafumi had no issues taking him down.

Also, the amount of stalling on MSU was sickening. Perrotti proved a point when he had one hand up for about 5 seconds while still keeping his kid on the ground.

Minnesota will never be a cake walk, especially at their place. I'll settle for a victory of any margin. $$$$

Minnesota is tough. They lost 3 at the Garden to Lehigh, UNC and NC State. Had a close loss by 3 to Okie State and lost by criteria to Indiana. They are getting better. They have Tommy Thorn #10 at 141, # 9 Jake Short at 149, # 4 Pfarr at 197 and # 7 Kroells at 285. If the meet comes down to 197 and 285 we are in trouble. We need to win 125, 133, 141, 157, 165 and either 174/184. Their kids are all gritty and wrestle Nebraska today so we will have a good idea how we measure up.

If they are laying like a sack then we got to let them up and take them down. We need to get in this offensive mind set of scoring opportunities. We need to break their mentality if they are blatantly stalling. Let them up, take them down, now they will be a little softer to be turnt . If one day we are to get in the levels of Iowa and PSU these little bonus point margins will matter in duals and NCAA. It's not if you win but the way you win that will separate good from great.

Granted, its very frustrating when refs are being inconsistent or the kid is just laying down. Then we got to use our imagination to find other ways to score. Can't let them have it their way of a close bout. We need to widen the gap.

Last year Minnesota was the preseason rank 1 believe it or not. I never thought we would be competitive with a real chance to beat Minnesota so fast. We need this win to help us believe we can beat them and future big 10 powers in future. Agreed, any victory should be satisfying and it will be.

They are tough but I believe we are tougher. I like the way we match up with them and this will be a golden opportunity to beat them, we need to, bc they are already reloading fast(3 legit bluechip RS).

Then Smitty has too get his head on straight and wrestle Kroells like he means it.There is absolutely no reason why Billy can't beat that kid. We'll know right away how Billy is going too do before the match. If he has that face on when he wrestled Dhesi, then they might as well not even wrestle and give the match too Kroells. He's gotta stop psyching himself out before matches. If he's gonna be an 0-2 NCAA tournament performer this year,he might as well quit now. It's pointless too do this too himself, the RU staff and the fans.Don't mean too be harsh, but he needs too man up.

I get your frustrations with Billy, I really do. Having said that, we still need Smith to score points at Big Tens, which he can and will do. We're a much better team with Smith than we are w/o him.
