Was on the top sports talk radio show in Omaha today (Sharp and Benning in the morning on 1620 AM) He said 7-5, with Indiana being the swing game for you guys.

He said you guys had 3 of your top corners out last year? One had to go to prep school, one was suspended and the other redshirted. Who are those players?

Also said Kaiwan Lewis has locked up the MLB job after being on campus for 9 days. That's impressive. Nebraska wanted him bad once he announced he was transferring.

I will link the audio. It's the 9th segment from this mornings show. I enjoyed listening to him.

You will have to listen to Sharp and Benning during the Rutgers vs Nebraska week. They do a great and fair job of breaking down opponents.

Yeah Kaiwan Lewis is the real deal. He's NFL ready and just gets it. His biggest problem was learning the new terminology, but I'm sure now he is fluent in Rutgers defense lingo.

Our CBs were a mess last year and are a little less of a mess this year, but still probably a mess.

That is not completely accurate.

One CB was at Prep school last year and this is his first year at RU.
One CB played WR and was suspended last year. When he cam back this year he was moved to CB due to circumstances.
One CB played last year but had some injuries and missed 4-5 games.
Once CB did redshirt last year.

Those are currently the top 4 CBs on the 2 deep.

I would describe our cornerbacks as being young and mostly unproven, but with lots of athleticism and potential.

Lewis is an upgrade that's for sure. However, if he was the real deal he would be starting at USC.

Dunleavy does a good job. In the top 2 of Rutgers beat reporters

Actually the WR that has been converted to CB full time (Peele) played both ways in 2013 because of injury and poor DB play. He doesn't have a lot of experience at CB, maybe 2-3 games at most.

Disagree. He was starting at USc and they changed the D to accommodate all the read option type O's in the SEC. He is a true Mike and isn't meant to play in space.
I guess he's the real deal unless we play a team like WSU, Indiana, Nebraska or OSU.

I hope Lewis is the next coming of Harry Carson. However I'll wait to see him play in something more than a scrimmage befor anointing him so. Just poking fun of the absurd comments based on no real info.

To be honest he's the only player on the roster at mlb who's played major cfb, say what you want about usce they play physical on defense

They do play fast physical defense, and I think he started 5 games in 3 years. Doesn't mean he won't be great in our system.

He had the 3rd most tackles on a team that won 11 games and was 12th in the country in scoring defense.

He had 10 starts in 2013 and ranked third on the team with 54 tackles. Also 4 tackles for a loss, one sack, two interceptions and forced a fumble.

2014 is playing time diminished. After Skai Moore replaced him.

For years under Schiano our D relied on corner man D to allow flexibility among the LBs and Safeties for a liberal frequency of blitzing... but also so that the safeties can come up in run support more quickly.. important with an undersized D relying on speed. This stunting and blitzing frequency toned down a bit under Flood.. but at its core I think our D wants to rely on man coverage for the CBs... so CB play is very key.

I don't see how CB play is expected to improve this season. We lost Glashen (decent player) and Barnwell (decent with potential) and replaced them with Freshman and a WR. Not to mention our Spring #2 corner was booted from the team.

I have no idea whether or not the CB play will be better or worse but remember, Boggs was a likely starter before his injury last year. He was ahead of 2 of the 3 guys you mentioned iirc.

Barnwell will be missed for sure if what is expected happens. Austin is the wild card. Apparently he's looked good so far but still heading into uncharted waters.

Depth is also a major concern.
