Hobbs was too stubborn the take schaino back after the got passed over for Miami. They should have named the stadium after him, whatever it took to get him back. He was truly our only hope to get back to relevance. I have been hopefull on Ash, and was a huge supporter. I gave a 5 year pledge and all. But this staff is in over their head. I am now afraid that our recruiting class will see this staff as one that can't develop players and fall apart. We already had one kid now go on an official visit to Wisconsin after commiting to us, and frankly I can't blame him.

I will continue to hope and support, but we are now just going to be a doormat for years. This game hurts more than OSU and MU. I am truly depressed.

STOP. The jury is still out on Ash, but Schiano returning was not and never will be the answer anymore.

In five years, RU will get a full B1G share. They can give Ash an extension or have enough money for a big name coach.

JUST STOP

We need to give Ash 5yrs to build up our talent depth to big ten standards. I wouldn't judge whether to fire or keep him till the end of the 2018 season.

Having a rotating carousel on the coaching staff is a recipe for disaster.

Dear Vince, when you hit puberty, maybe some one will tell you, how Schiano could not beat last
place teams playing a very very weak schedule, and had a losing record in 11 regular season games.
Stop making a fool of yourself.

before everyone bashes the thread starter, let it be known, from the casual college football fan, thats a question many RU fans here have been getting asked..why didnt you guys just take Schiano back,he knew the high school coaches,is a proven HC,at college and pro level.?
It is true NOBODY knows how this current staff will play out they are ALL first time Head coaches from ASH down as first time HC,OC,DC,they were all assistants at the postions they are now in charge of.Is this too big a task,to rebuild and recruit in B10 east as 'first timers" vrs hiring a proven HCs like Narduzzi,Schiano and even Fleck?
Its a valid question..and we shall soon see..

I think the fact the the Flood regime (which in all respects was a carry-over of the GS philosophy) failed made Hobbs --a brand new AD--want to try something completely new.

"trying something new' dosent usually work in B10..I get the point you are making..but the question looms..is this too big of a mess for a first timer staff to learn on the job themselves..and rebuild? Narduzzi wanted to come here also,Rutgers(Barchi) didnt want too pay him..

First off, check yourself with the insults nickknight.

Second, I think you are a fool if you don't respect the job schaino did. He made us a legit program and we're on the verge of getting consistent 4-5 star kids. Sure we should have went to the orange bowl in 2006, but we were relevant and he always had us ready to play!

We are a laughing stock right now. You can blame flood all you want, but this staff is not making our kids better. We made Illinois look like Nebraska today. I full well don't expect to fire this staff and we have no choice but to hope for the best. But give me a break if you don't see the obvious. This could very well be a staff that is in over their heads. For example, how is it that gio has not seen a snap until now. Prior to this he played one down and scored a TD.

As a loyal fan for multi decades, I will continue to root and dontate to the program. But I expected more this year given that sales pitch I saw.

I forget, did Schiano make our kids better the first year?

Also, we did not make Illinois look like Nebraska. They looked horrible and we actually out played them.

I'm a Schiano guy, but as bad as it looks now Ash cannot be judged based on a half season. Particularly with the talent situation he walked into. He needs to show he can recruit talent, develop that talent, pick good coaches, etc.

I figure as year three draws to a close, we'll know. Five is too many. It's hard enough to dig out of a hole, but the deeper you get the more difficult the new guys job will be. The landscape will be very different in 3 years. If Ash doesn't cut it, Id love to have Schiano back from what we know now. His tenure at OSU would tell a lot. And who's say if he'd want back. It's just a mental exercise at this point.

But let's concern ourselves with what's happening now. Support the program, criticize and praise when appropriate. Ash will be here for three years (at least) regardless. Gotta get some rain to see a rainbow.

STOP: all those defending ash today. We got beat down by a crappy team with equal or lesser talent

Hobb was given a budget and Ash was the end result. I don't blame Hobb because it's hard to say no to your Governor (indirectly).

Get your heads out of the past. Schiano was a bad gameday coach who sold a bunch of kids and fans on a dream which never came to fruition. On the way we won some games and caught lightening in a bottle one year. Thanks. Now let's do better.

Omg are you the guy that ran the bad cover band in blue lot ? Sounds like it. Everyone would rather win some games and a dream, then lose every game . Unbelievable screw !

Not that I necessarily agree but if GS is HC do we lose today? I think we would have stood a better chance at winning, I would say that.

When Schiano left in 2012 we had a legit shot at getting Petrino and many on this site literally threatened to not renew their season tickets, protest the hire to the BOG and boycott the games. I pleaded with everyone on the board the we had a real shot at prying Petrino away from Western Kentucky. I knew that Bobby Petrino would have taken us to a BE Championship and by know we would be threatening for a Rose Bowl. Today Louisville is ranked #7 in the country and we're losing to a 1-4 Illinois team. If the culture doesn't change here we'll never going to win anything significant.

Hold on a second here -- it's fine to talk about the staff being in over its head, as it might be, but are you seriously going to use handling quarterbacks as your example of why Schiano would be better?

Oh, how quickly they forget ...

Schiano had a lot of good qualities, but that wasn't exactly his strongest.

With all due respect you have no idea what you're talking about in respect to Schiano. Greg was contacted by Hobbs and he declined to interview for the job. And if you expect Ash to serve you chicken salad in year one while working with Chicken Shit then you don't know football very well. The game was lost by the players making turnovers or bad snaps. This D-1 football, not pop warner. These guys have been taught ad nausem to hold onto the f'ing ball.

"The culture?"

I was ready to have a QB who could run and throw. Was tired of the pro style.

Sorry, you are right, that 3 way tie for 4th place was great. Again, never beat Miami, Boston college, or virginia or west virgina.
Had to wait until 3 of them left the conference to barely beat the wimps.

Coach S did some great things but we weren't going any further with him and Our Best was never enough to beat Their Best. Don't misunderstand it still was the best era of Rutgers Football in 40 or 50 years (or since 1869)

There was a cover band last week but they were pretty good. This week - not me.

I still see no reason why that won't happen. We have a new, young coach who is going to get 5 years to see if he can do the job. Looks bleak now but bleak is kinda what I expected.

Let's see if he can recruit and if so how he does with his talent.
