Schiano and the Big Ten

Guys I THINK I responded to the wrong message....sorry about the confusion....my bad. IMHO:

- despite Greg knowing that a B1G invite was possibly coming along he couldn't possibly be 100% sure, as nobody could have been, and did what any half-smart adult would have done: took an NFL HC'ing position. Now, whether he would have left or not, had the invite already been made, who knows, but I'd think, yeah, probably.

Only he knows
Best thing happened that he left but the worst was Pernetti retaining Flood

Think whatever you'd like. There was plenty to "know" for a few years before the official invite ever came about. Just because you, or others, weren't in the know at the time doesn't mean that others weren't.

BTW - I agree wholeheartedly that Greg WANTED the B1G - actually there is little-to-no question - and that there's no way in hell he could have, or should have, turned down a job in the NFL.

Nuts, with all respect I disagree. Yes, there was an awful lot of work that went into the B1G invitation, and the work went on for a long time. But only now does it seem inevitable that Rutgers would become part of the B1G. And without GS's performance as head coach, it would not have happened. Period.

Correct. I've posted about this before, including telling people that Schiano would likely turn down UM at the time, because I got that from as good a source as one could have, outside of Greg, himself. A good friend of mine and his family are close friends with Schiano and his family. They played together in the same secondary at Bucknell and their wives are friends and the kids are all close in age. He simply said that Christy will veto it and she did.

Heresay posts are my favorites, especially after the fact. Always spot on. I knew about RU getting into the B1G early on because my brother in law went to St Benedicts Prep with Jim Delany. That one also turned out to be prophetic.

I know a guy who knows a guy......btw wasnt Schiano a LB at Bucknell and not a DB ?

Can we have a moratorium on Greg Schiano posts until the week before we play Ohio State? They just get dumber and dumber ...

Just think how this board is going to be leading up to that game

If we had today's board, I'd have proof that I posted what I said above, but we don't. However, I'd like to think a few oldtimers would recall those posts.

And yes, he was a LB at Bucknell. I misspoke. My friend was in the secondary.

Jeez...GS was great for Rutgers and started us on the way forward in big time college football. FULL STOP. He is a competitive dude, so he was not afraid of anything B1G related. He had a chance to compete in the NFL and took the job IMO, he was a lot closer at Tampa than people think, after he had a rough start. Now he is back at a top 5 program under a legendary coach as DC. We will have the fun of competing with him. He wishes Coach Ash and RU well, except for one Saturday a year.

Let's do the same for him.

The idea that someone is afraid of the competition in the Big Ten so he heads to the pros is kinda hilarious.
