SD St-Creighton

Well for those of you that say can't win with defense and your not winning games in really big spots in the 50s??
You can win with defense but Aztecs has numerous shooters, all their players can handle the ball, strong rebounders from the whole team, and numerous big men that can guard the interior and the perimeter. Their defense is elite - I don't think our defense is quite there yet.

We are not in the same class as the Aztecs. Let's hope we get there in the next couple of years.

Very tough call at the point of the game. Since nearly all calls require the referees to exercise some judgment, I can certainly see the Creighton side being upset. There was a lot of letting them play which contributed to the low score at that point.

Hard to tell how much of a push there was with the hand check at the waist.

The contest was clean at the top that’s for sure. I would not have liked it if my team was on the short end of the call.

So you didn't want the ref to make the correct call?

That's like holding a WR at the end of a Super Bowl and expecting no flag because of how late it is in the game.
Just my opinion: When a game is on the line especially a final 4 berth - unless the call is egregious- let it go and let players decide the game in overtime.

I also understand the ref position. If it’s a foul - you call it - regardless of the situation.

What I saw was a foul.

Just hate to see game of this magnitude end on a call like that.

Regardless I’m happy Aztecs won. 👍

I'm sure you know that there are a few people in Philly who would give you an argument about that! I think the ref has to ask, "would I have called that at some other point in the game?" Is the answer is yes, the ref should make the call.

If there ever was a time for the refs to let something go....and there are many times in all games where they do just that...this was the time. Sad IMO that the refs decided the game.
And I didn't really care which team won the damn game,

100% correct call - the offensive player had turned the corner on the defensive player and had the advantage -- the obvious push with the left hand to the right side of the offensive player's waist put him off balance as he was getting the shot off -- I don't even see how it is arguable.

This is my opinion too, after watching the replay a few times.. It was more than just a split second of contact, and looked like enough to put him off balance and to affect his upward trajectory during the shot.

Huh? Until last week San Diego had not beaten a ranked team all year. They beat Charleston and Furman to make the Sweet 16 -- probably the easiest path to get there (other than perhaps UConn). They also beat no one in the OOC and beat up on a weak MWC.

Yes, the wins over Alabama and Creighton the last 2 are very impressive but SD St is not some elite team. Of course, we're in their class.

Absolutely!
Having been a part-time Ref for a 18+ League, the game is very fast but the hand pushing on the hip is the correct foul call.

Except the refs didn’t make that call all game. Like baseball, need a consistent strike zone.

We can agree to disagree. We don't have the athletes to compete with the Aztecs right now. All five of their players on the court can defend and rebound - they don't have any weak links on defense and they are deep. There was no drop-off on their second team.

Aztec defense looks elite to me. I don't think we're at their level yet. Hopefully, we'll get there in next year and with the 2024 class - we've got athletes that can shoot, defend and rebound.

What do you mean by “that call”? Are you telling me that there were multiple instances of the offensive player turning the corner on the defender, the defensive players’ left hip lined up with the offensive players’ right hip as both were turned towards the basket and the defensive player pushing the offensive player with his left hand while he was rising for the shot, throwing him off balance? No — it was in the open— defender beaten - defender made highly consequential illegal contact which he 100% initiated. 100% had to be called even a loosely called game. Not a close call.

Texas just blew their game late against Miami.

Just goes to show how razor thin the margins are this time of year. Clearly the better team, very possibly the best team left but 8 bad minutes and you're out.

If we've learned anything this year, it's that anything is possible if you're in the thing. Lots of randomness involved.

Hand to the hip altered trajectory of shooter's drive. How can you not call that?
