Season over.

this situation isnt the same...why is your head in the sand...the team is playing the same game every game and its not getting stops..the comparison to that hungry team and this one isnt the same

Meh the situation now is probably actually better than it was that year.

The problem is getting in that year was basically a miracle after the way we started.

I don't think some of you understand how the school was prepared to take advantage of a once in a generation opportunity. You don't just walk away from that with no problems. His seat will be scorching hot next year, the money argument does not work anymore here. Bob Barchi is gone.
We currently don't have an AD or President. We can't even get the funds to build the football indoor facility or the RAC reno. I don't see any way they fund an $11M buyout for a guy who took a dormant program to multiple NCAA tourneys and finished in the top 4 of the conference twice. Maybe I'm wrong. We'll see.

And on the "once in a generation opportunity". This won't be popular but the team that lost to Houston was the missed opportunity IMO. The stars aligned for a final four run that year and we choked away a game we had in hand. This team is centered around 2 freshman (as good as they may be) surrounded my low major transfers.

I'm a fan of Pikell and appreciate all he's done for this program. He's a Rutgers legend forever if he never coaches another game here again. But no one is above criticism. He lacks the ability to coach an offensive oriented team. And as I've stated in the past, this squad isn't built to his strength and identity which is hustle, defense and rebounding. They are getting out manned and out hustled every game no matter the quality of opponent and cannot get stops, especially when needed. There aren't many "dawgs" on this team and that is what we've come accustom of seeing year in and year out under Pike.

I certainly won't call for his job as I don't think one disappointing season warrants that, especially the first season where he's actually had huge expectations with the arrival of two top 3-4 NBA draft talents on the same team. Very disappointing thus far indeed but he should and will be back.

It sure sucks to have one of the best freshman players I've ever seen at the college level who decided to stay home, when most never do, fail to put together more wins. But quite frankly the season, while it hasn't gone nearly as many had expected up to this point, is not over yet and they can still make something out of it

He did not finish 4th in the Big 10 twice. It was once, and I believe he was tied with two other teams that year. This once dormant program has averaged between a 9th and 10th place Big 10 finish in 9 years under Pike - not good enough, and an 11 million dollar buyout is nothing in major college sports today. My guess is that Pike welcomes a buyout if he doesn't make the tourney this year.

also, his buyout becomes only $5.5 million on April 1st because Pat Hobbs left

Too early to call the basketball season over. That is what most thought after the football team's loss to Wisconsin. I sat in that last row of the lower bowl that afternoon and watched hundreds of fans file out, with many grumbling the football season was over.

I admit I thought Rutgers would win maybe one out of the final four regular season football games, and definitely not Minnesota when Monangai was scratched. Then, Rutgers won that one and three of the last four.

Basketball could rally too. Not my base case for b-ball to make the tourney, but too soon to throw in the towel on the Ace-Dylan show.

You don't need more than a month to get someone to give weak side help.
lol .. ok. There are dozens of things that they need to learn - if none of them need more than a month, they should be solid in a couple of years. Coaching isn't just snapping your fingers.

And our defensive struggles are not just about lacking weak side help.

RUSC,
Since the seasons over can we count on you not to post anymore. That would be a real treat

Pike's original contract reads, "The foregoing requirement shall be reduced by 50% if Patrick E. Hobbs' employment with the University terminates on a date which is effective prior to March 31, 2024."

Hobbs terminated his employment on August 16, 2024.

The 50% buyout reduction expired on March 31, 2024 unless this date was pushed back in one of the many amendments to Pike's original contract.

The sixth amendment - the only amendment available on Rutgers website - states Pike's buyout is $13 million through March 31, 2025, falling by $2 million per year after that.

How do you come up with the $5.5 million amount?

You are not being fair with the 'one bad season' rationale. Last year was pretty bad from what I recall. To the point that the narrative shifted to 'it doesn't matter, only next season does'.as the team crumbled. And now it's next season. The Pike unicorn season that we were sold as being the big payoff. Until it's not and it becomes the second bad season in a row. One made even worse by the failed expectations. And next year, well not looking so good either with a gutted roster. So, 3 bad seasons......but hey, at least we we had ace and Dylan here for a few months

That - and there were way more opportunities to pick up super wins.

Pike buyout of $5.5 million has been invented. Here, here, plus many other places. False figures.

Totally false and off by millions. Buyout after this season is $13 million according to publicly available contract.
